Great Deal From World Famous Wenger - Swiss Army     On: 2008-06-11

Im always looking for something unique when I shop for a watch. I wanted to own a 100% Swiss Made "Wenger", Swiss Army watch, but I found most of them to be very basic and unimaginative. Most of their line are a bit small for my taste, around 38MM in case diameter with standard straps a bit on the short side. I have large wrists.

Then I came upon this low-priced beauty. The case size, (40 MM actual-44 MM with crown), is bold but not overbearing. The standard sized rubber strap is just barely adequate for my large wrist, (no surprise there), but a bit longer than the norm. After wearing it long enough for it to shape to my arm, I find it to be comfortable and satisfactory.

Unlike most Wenger watches in this style, the dial features a silver face, (most are either Black or dark Blue), with applied numerals and markers and a textured inner circle. Gives the watch a classy look! Its hard to find a silver dial with markers and hands that contrast well enough to be read easily. This one breaks the mold and I really like it. My first night revealed that the luminous hands and markers kept their bright luminosity for several hours with only minimal exposure to light. A very nice surprise. The bold black hour and minute hands are generously coated with luminous material, (unlike so many others that skimp). The result is easily read time, day or night. Excellent design.

One slight negative, (at least to me), is that the red sweep-second hand, or the internal gear that drives it, seems to be a bit loose. When holding the watch level it cant be noticed and it moves accurately from tic to tic. When held vertical or at a slight incline, it seems to advance normally and accurately from/to each second marker on the down-swing, but on the up-swing, it seems to drop back a bit on each tic before clicking forward. This repeats on each tic until it passes 12 OClock and begins its downward track again. Im not sure if this is by design to compensate for tolerance variations in deep water use, or extreme temperature changes, or if it is a design flaw. Ive noticed the same anomoly with other quartz watches so Im hoping that it is normal. Time Will Tell.

At any rate, so far this is, at most, a minor distraction, evident only while staring at the watch during obsessively close and longer than reasonable scrutiny. As long as it doesnt fall off, I will be satisfied to accept this minor issue. Aside from that, in just one day of use, the watch seems to be operating flawlessly.

The screw down crown is evidence of a genuine deep-water design and as such, this watch promises to provide years of faithful, uncontaminated service. Im too old and crippled to do any more diving. Had my share when I was younger. But I really like this watch.

Unlike many dive watches, the rotating Stainless Steel bezel is not painted or Ion-plated. The bezel is polised and bears traditional dive count-down markers which are inscribed, not painted on. For me, this is a plus and expands the watchs appearance, giving it a bolder and more finished look. White markers on a dark background are preferable for visibility underwater. No argument there. But this watch is likely a dive watch in name only, more suited to active water sports, but probably not appropriate for deep water diving. For day to day use, I prefer the un-cluttered appearance.

To sum it up --- I have high hopes for this ALL SWISS addition to my modest collection. Wenger boasts accuracy to within a tenth of a second per month. If it comes even close, it will be one of my most accurate time-pieces. At this price, a legendary Swiss Army Watch can be owned by just about anyone.

The Wenger Aquagraph is available in other color styles, and with a quality stainless steel bracelet, (at a slightly higher price). All feature the same basic design and functionality. The watch comes in a classic Wenger factory tin box with padded storage compartment for safe storage when not in use. Product is backed by a 3 Year factory warranty. Written warranty and instructions for warranty service came with the product. If anything is going to go wrong, it will happen while the product is still under warranty. Cant beat that!

Im going to take a leap of faith here and give this product a good recommendation after a very short time. A great value for the money! You cant go wrong with 100% "Swiss Made", and Wenger has built a solid reputation throughout the world for providing quality dependable products at affordable prices. Amazon had it to me in blazing fast time with standard "Super Saver" free shipping. Ordered on a Thursday afternoon--Delivered the following Tuesday. Cant beat that.

So far this product and purchase gets a big "GREAT DEAL" rating from me! Famous brand, good product, great price, good factory back-up. Cant beat it!
Nice watch.Great service.     On: 2006-12-16

I recently purchased this watch through Amazon and had difficulty with the settings. I e-mailed Swiss Outpost and they promptly sent out a new watch. It ended up being my error, and they were still very accomodating. So far, the watch has been great. It wears well, and looks like a much more expensive time piece.
