![]() Croton Men's Automatic Sport Watch with Winder #CA401094SSBL By: Croton Average Rating: 3.0 Total Reviews: 19 More Information Great watch. Purchased June 08. Heavier than I expected. Looks great. The winder I received is silent. Not that I actually plan on using the winder, this is currently my only watch (except for the cell phone naturally!) I had no clue you could put so many plastic overlays on something this size. I thought I got them all, but one week after wearing, another protective plastic sheet starting coming off. Easy to set, although the instructions were backwards on which position to use to set the date and time, but I didnt realize that until after I had already set the watch and actually read the instructions. Hardly a deal breaker. When I go to bed, the dial lights up enough to be readable. I have no idea how long it lasts. Pieces of the face fall off, watch stops after one day of non-use This watch looked really nice when I saw it but I have to say Im not impressed. The "12" at the top of the watch has fallen off and now rolls around inside where it can obstruct the hands. The faux diamond on top came off and the blue face scratches easily. The most irritating thing is that if you dont tend to wear your watch on the weekend, you have to rewind your watch on Monday. Im not using that winder that came with it because it is difficult to use and it takes a lot of energy compared to the little button batteries that other watches can run on for multiple years. Im not saying automatic movements are bad but you might consider going for a traditional battery-powered model or spend the extra money for a solar model. Chinese A note of interest. Croton stainless steel automatic wrist watches in the 1950s were made to compete with the Omega Seamaster, and were a fantastic buy, building up a niche for that brand among watch lovers. Movement type: self winding mechanical Jewel count: 17J Country of origin of movement: Switzerland Country of origin of case: Switzerland But by the 1960s, most of Croton stainless steel wrist watches now had a 21 jewel windup movement, the movements were now manufactured in France while the case and bracelet was made in Hong Kong. Movement type: mechanical [windup] Jewel count: 21J Country of origin of movement: France Country of origin of case: Hong Kong Now, sad to say, the Croton watches are all manufactured in China, with much poorer workmanship, materials, and quality then they had been known for, and Croton watches are now just surviving on the brand name, along with the falsely stated jacked up "Retail" prices. You get what you pay for when you buy the Amazon deal. But for the last ten years or so, no way and at no time are these Croton watches worth or retail anywhere for $400 to $600. It is a good deal for less than $60 though. Most Compliments I've had for a watch This is a beautiful watch. I have had more compliments on this watch. It was a great buy. The service was fantastic as well. The watch that doesn't tell time This is my second returned croton watch in a month. Both of them failed to keep time and the second one developed water inside the crystal after the first time in the shower. I would not recommend this watch to anyone! Steven Javorniczky The watch is everything I thought it would be, though the winding is a little loud, only if shaken off the wrist, nice weight to the watch as well and loved the see through back, that was a surprise, would recommend this to anyone who wants a really nice automatic sports watch, though the winder that came with the watch did not work, could not be bothered sending back, that is my only disappointment. cheesy but you paid for cheese Decided to give this brand a try when the price dropped to $84.00 in one of those gold box deals. Well, I got what I paid for. Band is chintzy. Date magnification is off center. It just looks cheap. Which it is. I dont spend a lot on watches (very partial to Seiko) but I like a nice middle ground. This is not middle ground. If you want a nicer watch, spend more. Its that simple. Stay away! Poor quality! I purchased Croton Mens Automatic Sport Watch with Winder #CA401094SSBL in March 2008. The watch looked nice but could not keep accurate time. It was going too fast: about 1 minute every 24 hours. I send an e-mail to Amazon and they promptly sent me a replacement. Unfortunately no luck there either. When i tried to put the watch into a winder box the bracelet fell off. I examined the band more carefully and I noticed a bunch of dings and scratches. It appeared that the watch (or maybe just the band)have been used before. Im sending both watches to Amazon for refund. I am highly disapointed. I would advise to stay away from this brand. What makes things even worse is the response I received from the Crotons customer service: "Send it back and well see what we can do." No appologies, no thanks for buying their product, no offer to pay for postage... it short terrible!!! Thanks god for Amazons customer service... They have been highly responsive and very helpful. Im glad that I have been dealing with them! returned The automatic mechanism did not work, the crystal had enough condensation inside to occlude half the face, and the band clasp was scratched. I couldnt decide which reason best justified my return. cheap product Sorry everyone, but this is NOT a $600 watch. I opened my package, took a look at the watch, and sent it back for a refund in a heartbeat. Its incredibly cheap-looking (the luminescent paint was messy and thick), and the mechanism is very loud. The watch face is much gaudier in person than it seems in the picture. It was supposed to be a gift, but I would be embarrassed to give it to anyone. poor design This is a nice looking watch, but the "Winder" feature is bulky ,awkward & difficult to use regularly. I dont like it. Best of the low priced automatics. I own both this and the black dial version of this watch. The watch has good heft and feel to it, the band and clasp are well made and feel and sound solid. It keeps reasonable time, has a reasonable reserve power when fully wound, and certainly looks better then the $89 spent on it. The black faced watch has been owned over a year and is still in perfect condition with no ill effects from wear. I rate this as one of the top low cost automatics out there, sure it has a few flaws but rare is the product where I would say it would be worth it at twice the price. If this were $179.99 Id still buy it. Nice watch I purchased this wtch for my son for Christmas, he loves it. The winder is not really needed as he has it on all of the time!! George Watch as expected. Winder a bit noisy but does have built in timer: on for 1 hour; off for 3. Pin fell out A sizing pin for this watch fell out and now I have to struggle to get it to a watch repair to have it put back. A little think, but not a good indication for me. a quality watch I decided to treat myself and buy a good quality watch to wear every day. The metal band was simple enough to figure out so I was able to remove the extra links myself and I am very pleased with the watchs function and looks. It took a while to get used to the automatic winder, but now I think it adds an element of class. Excellent watch at a great price. Beautiful Watch This watch is simply beautiful. Looks very classy. My boyfriend really liked it and was almost scared to wear it. JUST AWESOME !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BEAUTIFUL WATCH AND AWESOME DISPLAY. ALL AT A GREAT PRICE. LOVE IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! JUST AWESOME !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BEAUTIFUL WATCH AND AWESOME DISPLAY. ALL AT A GREAT PRICE. LOVE IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! To Croton or not to Croton? I first heard of Croton watches on one of those shopping channels. They had them on sale, they looked nice, so I bought the one pictured above for my husband and a crystal diamond watch for myself. That was over 8 years ago, and we are still wearing them! The quality is superb, the look has rendered many, many compliments. My husbands watch band has had to be replaced over the years as he is ruff on watches. However, the quartz movement and dial are in excellent condition. I would highly recommend the Croton line. And I hope you will enjoy your watch for many years to come! To Croton or not to Croton? I first heard of Croton watches on one of those shopping channels.
