Beautiful watch that keeps great time.     On: 2008-02-13

I am always bewildered by the statements of Rolex owners that complain of the watchs inaccuracy. For Rolex and other great Swiss watches that have certified movements, the certification is from Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres (COSC), the Official Swiss Chronometer Testing Institute, which is the institute responsible for certifying the accuracy and precision of wristwatches in Switzerland. The standard for COSC as a chronometer is -5/+6 seconds per day. This figure will be consistent wheather it is fast or slow. Any Rolex owner with a COSC certified chronograph movement, that isnt keeping time within standards, simply needs to have it timed by a Rolex technician. I have a submariner that has been a nearly daily wear watch for 20 years. It has been within COSC specs, +1 second per day, for 20 years. I remember when I bought it new, the Rolex technician explained the mechanism to me and said it is nearly impossible to make a watch run at 0, and since nobody wants a watch to run slow, it is safer to time the watch for 1 second fast.

I love my Rolex, I love it for its style and the feeling that can only be achieved with elegance. I know people wonder how can one justify paying thousands of dollars for a time piece, but its all about the being good to yourself and loving quality and style !

My watch has never lost time as long as I wear it, but she is a jealous mistress and so when I wear one of my other watches for more then 48 hours my Rolly may stop. Other then that the service, performance and support of my Rolex and the Rolex Brand is tremendous !!

The major consumer magazine gave the Rolex an excellent review about 2 years ago and I concur. First, if as someone stated, their Rolex is off by 30 seconds a day, it is out of specs and Rolex will repair it. That same magazine gave it very high marks for accuracy. A Rolex is a piece of jewelry that is hand made beautifully, and tells time as well as is possible for a mechanical / automatic winding watch. It is truly water resistant and the currently used crystal is almost indestructible. I have had mine for about 10 years and I wear it 24 hours a day, every day. It still shine like fine jewelry, which you wont get after a year or two with a copy, let alone after 10 years. The sweep second hand, fit and finish, and durability carry old world beauty. Maybe it cant be appreciated by some high tech only people, but this is one techy who truly appreciates it. Yes, they are expensive and not for everyone, but if you can appreciate it and have the money, it is worth it. Faces and hands can be changed by Rolex any time you want and when cleaned and checked after about 5 year, it comes back looking like it is brand new.
The Best.

I own two watches made by Rolex. One is a Sea Dweller which looks like a Submariner but is a little thicker and does not have the cyclops magnifier over the date. First of all, Rolex watches are automatic watches that wind using the wearers motion. They are not "mechanical" watches as G Cordes says in his review.

My SeaDweller is spot on accurate and has been since I got it in 2002. Never been serviced or calibrated and it doesnt gain or lose time. My Datejust ran exactly 2 minutes fast when I got it and after having it calibrated at Rolex in New York it runs very well. I live in NYC and simply walked into the Rolex building on 5th and 53rd and they calibrated it. They also will clean your watch for free if you go in and head upstairs.

Rolex watches are masterpieces and cannot be compared to Quartz watches. They are completely hand made by Rolex. For example, the case of the submariner, which is made at Rolex own foundry, uses 904 grade steel that is used in industrial settings and the like. So what, right? Wrong. This steel will last and last and last. By contrast, Omegas dive watches use 316L steel which is much cheaper. No other watch manufacturer uses 904 grade steel.

Finally, a Rolex will never decrease in value. My Sea Dweller cost $4000 in 2002 and now sells new for $5375 just 5 years later. Thats a 25% gain, less any depreciation due to wear.

Men's Rolex Watch     On: 2007-10-30

Ive owned 2 different Rolex watches (both were the Explorer II model in all stainless steel). While they looked great, both lost about 5 minutes per month. Before quartz, Rolex used to brag about how accurate their watches were. And, that was true at the time. But, now that quartz watches have set the standard for accuracy, Rolex no longer makes any public claims about the accuracy of their watches. While a Rolex is a true product of craftsmanship (it takes over a year to create each watch), if you want accuracy, then youll have to go with a quartz watch.Rolex Oyster Perpetual Day-Date 18kt Yellow Gold Diamond Mens Watch 118348
Free Calibration     On: 2007-08-20

I love my Submariner Oyster Perpetual Date. A Rolex must be calibrated to its owner. A Rolex will run fast or slow depending on you.
Ask your Jeweler.

She/he will set you up on A CALIBRATION PROGRAM. It may take 1-3 visits to get it tweaked to you.
I am not suprised at these comments.......a fine jeweler would inform one of the calibration process.
If you want/need a Rolex by all means, use a reputable fine jeweler/dealer.

Rolex watches are way over rated. Being mechanical self winding watches my two lose around 30 seconds per day. My sons Seiko varies about 1or 2 seconds per month with the WWV time signal

Looks Great but Run Fast     On: 2007-08-18

This is great looking watch for a bigger individual. Im slightly over 6 feet 1 and weighs about 225 and Ive had lots of compliments about my Rolex. Ive had mine for 3 years and I wear it all the time -- shower, in the ocean and on the golf course. The only problem with it is that it tends to run fast and beware of 40 hour guarantee of not to stop -- mine is maybe 9 hours. I paid $6300 for mine, so obviously buying the watch has proven to be a sound investment. But I will be honest, my four year old Seiko runs better and looks just as nice but the bottom line -- it isnt a Rolex. For some reason, I will go to my grave with my Rolex.
