Terrific Alternative to 6-figure mechanical repeaters!     On: 2007-12-28

Ive wanted a minute repeater for a long time but just couldnt bring myself to spend 100K-300K for it, especially given that the only complication in most of those repeaters is the repeater itself. I even came "close" by buying a 30K quarter-repeater from Chronoswiss (which I like, but on which the "pusher" button broke off within three months of purchase!).
So I "splurged" and bought this Citizens (retails about $500.00 -- bought for substantially less -- which is only 3 figures, not 6!).
While I generally avoid electronic watches, this one is terrific and I love it so much I bought one for Christmas for my future son-in-law. It not only has a great repeater with a really nice "gong" (and its much more audible than any of the mechanical repeaters!), but it also has a second time zone, a standard perpetual function, and two differen alarms.

I have a big watch collection but enjoy fooling around with, and wearing, this one almost more than any of my much more expensive watches.

Go for it! You wont be disappointed, no matter how much of a mechanical watch-snob you are (and Im a pretty big one, myself).

Good luck.

Excellent watch, but be warned...     On: 2007-12-27

I did a lot of research when selecting this watch, and among the things that made me choose this one were its VERY attractive design, the functionality, the excellent reputation of Citizen watches, the price and the water resistance listed on the product page.

I received the watch a few days ago, spent a good hour programming it (reading the manual is a MUST!) and was prepared to give it a quick "water test" since the Amazon description (at least at the time of this writing) lists this watch as follows: "Water resistant depth: 30 Meters". Well, 30 meters is WAY deeper than I can swim without some serious scuba gear so I figured that a quick dip in a sink wouldnt be an issue at all. THANK GOODNESS I ended up stumbling onto a page in the manual that described the water resistance ratings for Citizen watches. Although it doesnt specifically list a rating for the Calibre 9000 watch in the manual (the manual I received covers all Citizen "minute repeater" watches), it does tell you how to determine the water resistance rating for any Citizen watch. Well, its a darned good thing I read this before submerging it completely in water because the water resistance rating for this watch is as follows: "This type of watch is water-resistant to minor exposure to water. For example, you may wear the watch while washing your face; however, it is not designed for use underwater."

Im very hopeful that Amazon will either remove or seriously reword the "Water resistant depth: 30 Meters" specification from their description because it sounds like this thing wouldnt hold up to a 3-inch full submersion without becoming a very attractive, non-functional paper weight.

Aside from that very misleading description, the watch itself is amazing. I could easily get into some of the cool features of the watch, but you can find those easily by reading the watch description (all of which appears to be 100% accurate). Oh, I suppose I should mention that my step dad has a Calibre, and his loses about 1.5 seconds a MONTH from official US time. I consider that extremely good.

Definitely a 5-star purchase!

Excellent Timepiece     On: 2007-05-09

This is a great watch for the price. Initial set up was a little confusing, but once done the watch wont need to be touched until daylight savings forces another adjustment. I gave this one to me wife and now I want one too.
