Navy Seals: What more could you ask for?     On: 2008-02-12

I purchased this product recently from Tourneau in NYC, the product looks great. The yellow dial is very vivid, and is a nice contrast to the black band and casing. This is a military watch, with a very distinct look, unique to Luminox. At night the watch lights up with its luminous dashes, that allow for great visibility.
Luminox 3000 Series Watches     On: 2007-12-17

Purchased the 3005 yellow face model five years ago because of its big dial, rugged look and waterproof features since Im a boater. BEWARE "ITS NOT AN EVERY DAY WATCH"...Ive finally learned that after the last four years as I had to send this watch in for repair four times...the wrist band only lasts ONE YEAR they crack and break (Recommend ordering an extra at time of ordering) dont care what anybody says the CRYSTAL IN VERY SOFT...SCRATCHES VERY, VERY EASY and they will crack on impact (Band broke..watch fell to floor resulting in a crack...another TIMES was on a minor hit). Repair cost extremely high since they have to replace various parts when they open the watch...average yearly repair cost $145 not good!!! Ive put the watch up in storage and only use it when I plan to be on/in the water!!!!!
Great Watch!     On: 2007-11-21

I am a watch-a-holic and own several watches. This is by far my favorite watch. When I first opened the case and picked up the watch I thought it was a cheap dollar store watch because it was so light. After examining it and wearing it I realized the quality of this watch. It is very light, durable, comfortable and easy to read in the dark. It looks great as well. Highly recomend this watch. I will definitely buy another Luminox.
Not as bad a watch as some reviews say.     On: 2007-09-10

I figured it would be just a watch to wear seeing as a buddy of mine gave it to me because he bought the F-117 Luminox watch. Most of the reviews (especially for the black faced watch) really rag on it and totally discredit the watch and company as a whole. Ive had the watch since 2002, lets not take into account that it was bought and worn before it came into my possession, and the battery ran out....2 months ago. The original battery. The only problems Ive ever had with this watch were the pins for the watch. One broke as I raked my hiking backpack across it by accident. Dissapointing yes, but I dont mind paying Target or Wal-Mart $8 or so to give me brand new pins. The customer service IS pretty horrid, send it in they say and well let you know the price...yeah, not too impressive. For those that complain about the watch band breaking, I suggest go to Target or Wal-Mart to buy a cheap new one. It doesnt have to be a Luminox band. Ive bought two cheap bands, one I bought simply because the first I bought was too stiff. So what?!? Also a good watch band is the ZULU 4 ring or the NATO nylon straps. Point being, I dont see what all the griping is about, Ive known several people with this exact brand watch (some have the different color faces) and none have ever had a problem. Yes, the casio g-shock is what most of the military wears, my cousin is in the Army and thats what he uses. So, use it as a good casual watch, camping watch, or traveling watch.

Only one unique feature     On: 2007-09-05

Ive owned this watch for 5 years and the one outstanding feature, the illumination, is truly outstanding. The borosilicate glass capsule/tritium technology is slick and is very bright. Mine has faded minimally over time.

But otherwise, this is just an ordinary watch. Downsides include a nonrecessed crystal that has become significantly scratched, poor comfort and function of one band (two bands are included with the watch and the velcro one works well) and a second hand that aligns poorly with the markings on the watch face. The last feature seems poorly compatible with any notion of build quality or precision.

As a side note Im not sure that the "Navy Seals" aspect of this watch is anything but marketing. The few Navy Seals Ive talked to dont use this watch. They all used G-Shocks (another watch I like).
Twice as bright as S&W watch     On: 2007-04-28

I originally bought a S&W tritium watch and quickly broke the crystal (Im hard on crystals). The S&W has a steel case and the Luminox has a plastic case, so I thought the S&W might be more sturdy.
I then got a blue faced SEAL Luminox and I love it. The illumination is at least twice as bright as the S&W. I havent even been able to scratch the crystal.

Poor quality, poor service     On: 2006-11-29

I bought this watch a few years ago. I like the luminous dial, and it has proven to be an accurate and rugged watch. I am disappointed that after a few years the plastic watch band cracked and was no longer usable. Given the price of this watch, and all the military specifications Luminox claims to meet, I did not expect this to happen. I assumed this must have been a defective watch band. When I contacted Luminox to point this out, and asked if they would replace it, they sent me a very curt and direct message in which they stated:

"The warranty does not apply to the band, crystal, crown, bezel or battery."

In looking for a replacement band, I discovered that authorized Luminox distributors sell them for $39.00. I think this is bit ridiculous for a watch band that only lasted a few years. Ive bought complete Timex digital watches for less than the price of this band, and never had the watch band break. In shopping around, I found a Timex watch band made for Casio watches that looked like the original Luminox watch band. I bought it for $8.87 at Wal-Mart.

While I still like the Luminox watch itself, Im very unhappy with it coming with either a defective or very cheap watch band. Im also very unimpressed with Luminoxs customer service. Given my experience, Ive come to the conclusion that Luminox watches are overpriced, and their service is poor. If I could do it all over, I wouldnt buy this watch again.

best watch     On: 2006-06-08

I probably own about 12 watches, and this one is my favorite (I have this watch with than tan dial). Here are the reasons:

- Swiss made
- Very accurate
- Very lightweight
- Very durable
- Crystal is tough and doesnt scratch easily
- VERY easy to see at night and in low light
- The band has enough holes close together to fit anyones wrist
- It just looks really good and the design is cool
- It is a "military watch", designed to military specs. (the Seals have the reputation of testing things til they break, so you know if they ordered it, it is tough).

There are some very minor downsides to these watches:

- Battery life is only 4 years, and I heard it can be hard to get a replacment. The back of the watch has tiny phillips screws, so your local jeweler might not have the tools and might have to "send it in", and I heard that service is not that great at Luminox. (note that some of the heavier Luminox Seal watches have the traditional "unscrew it" back, which is far easier to install a battery in, I think).

- the time setting pin is not screw-down. This actually doesnt bother me at all, but some "purists" like the screw-down ones. The watch is good to 200 meters underwater, so that is not an issue.
