NOt near the quality you are paying for.     On: 2008-06-04

Like others I have read here, I found the quality to be substandard for the price. I also found the company service to be horrid and arrogant. The band broke nearly right away and the pins come out of the softer polymer lugs. I like the look but would not and have not purchased another again.
Great Marketing - Mediocre Product     On: 2008-05-15

The most appealing aspect of this watch is the illumination. Its by far the best glow-in-the-dark analog watch I have seen. Unfortunately, the watch is not as tough as advertised. Within two years, my watch was sent back for water in the crystal and a bezel that popped off. In addition, I find that it scratches quite easily. Do I like the watch? Yes, Ill admit its pretty cool. However, for $150 I thought it would hold up a bit better. By comparison, my 5-year old Casio G-Shock only needed a wrist band replacement and has proven to be much tougher. However, I would still recommend the Luminox for light outdoor use. Hope this helps.
You may want to try this.......     On: 2008-04-16

I was looking for a tough outdoor analog watch for quite some time, I even considered this model of Luminox. The rotating bezel and polyurethane case always disuaded me. I eventually went to the LL Bean web page and saw that they too sell the luminox brand. LL Bean has a 100% guarantee, no questions asked return policy ( Have not tested the guarantee, but thats what they claim ). I ended up purchacing the Higher grade LL Bean field watch which suspicously appears to be a luminox watch in a standard metal case. Have worn it non stop for three months and I am very happy. You may want to check it out................
Just my two cents.
A gift fit for an Officer     On: 2008-02-25

I bought this watch as a Valentines gift for a active duty Chief Warrant Officer who collects expensive watches so that he could use it while diving. He liked the look of it, used it while diving several times last week and liked how well it withstood the water exposure. He rates it the best Valentines gift ever.
Great watch, especially at night     On: 2008-02-06

I have worn my Luminox daily for about 8 years. I am nearsighted so seeing a clock on the wall or nightstand at night doesnt work for me. I dont dive or do anything extreme, I just want to have an accurate watch by day and one that I can read at night. It does a great job at that. Im taking it to the shop today for a new band. After 8 years it is cracked and about to give out. I ordered one on-line to save about $10 bucks, they are expensive as other reviewers have mentioned. When this watch gives out, I will probably buy another just because of the bright night light feature.
The best all around watch EVER     On: 2008-01-19

Ive owned several different kinds of watches, from digital, to basic analog, to formal looking analog style. This watch manages to combined practicality and style in a fantastic black rubberized design. It fits formal events while at the same time is great for everyday use. The watch is designed for the SEALs, and its built just that tough. The watch can be banged, battered, and beaten and is completely unaffected. The glowing backlight on the watch is great too, works awesome in the dark, and indeed works underwater.

I would highly reccomend this watch, its the best out there.
Navy Seal Watch is great as long as it doesn't get wet!     On: 2007-12-25

Ive owned two of these Luminox Original Navy Seal watches, purchased from the Army & Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES) and Amazon. My thinking was that if they were good enough for Navy Seals, they were good enough for me, a retired military man of mystery and now active civilian desk jocky. I was attracted by the Luminox Light Technology, so-called mil specs and supposed durability & ruggedness. The first watch worked great until its first ever visit to the Virginia Beach surf! I played in the surf with my kids (never over my head) and water had gotten inside the crystal:-( It was out of warranty so I continued to use it as is (out of water). I contacted the manufacturer hoping that my defective out of warranty watch would be replaced but no dice;-) Even so, when it came time for replacement, I bought another exactly like it, this time from Amazon. I figured I probably somehow contributed to the first watchs untimely demise and I really liked the watch otherwise! The second watch lasted a little over a year before the same thing happened, again the first time it was exposed to the Va. Beach surf! Now, Im slow but I eventually catch on. In hindsight, I dont believe the U.S. Navy Seals actually use these watches under operational (or even training) conditions. The water resistance (or lack thereof) issue would be a serious limiting factor. Maybe they use them when they trek to the Base movie theaters. The Luminox Light Technology works great for illuminating passageways for the pogie bait runs and emergency head calls:-) If youre looking for rugged mil-spec commercial hardware that the military actually uses, buy a Force Protection Industries CAT II Cougar MRAP vehicle or a Polaris MV7 ATV, but forget the Luminox movie theater watches:-)
love this watch     On: 2007-12-04

This is the 2nd Luminox Navy Seals Dive Watch I have owned. The first one was about 9 years old and the illumination was getting weak, about half as bright as when new. This is to be expected, as the half-life of the tritium is around 10 years. Thats still far better and brighter than any other watch. Never gave me any problems. The rubber watch band lasts about 2 years, and you can get another almost identical at Target, etc, for about $5.00. The back on this watch is held on with 4 screws, which means when you change the battery you dont distort and ruin the o-ring seal. The metal- case watches have a round screw-on back and when you unscrew it you have to replace the o-ring (expensive and hard to find). BEST WATCH IVE EVER OWNED!
Great features, poor quality     On: 2007-11-16

I bought this watch brand new from a large military/police supply site online and loved it for 10 months. Then for no apparent reason, the second hand fell off. It lodged in the minute hand and stopped it. I went on Luminox site and found that they wont even fix a watch of theirs unless you prove it came from an "authorized distributor", which I found out to my dismay the site I bought it from is not (of course they dont tell you that when you buy it). So if Luminox wont stand behind their own products bought brand new in box, they must know that they are garbage...Who doesnt stand behind their products anymore? Wow

Terrible watch, worse service     On: 2007-09-22

Please do yourself a favor and avoid Luminox watches at all cost.
I am a firefighter and assumed that a watch good enough for Navy Seals would meet my on the job needs as well. How wrong I was.
After less than a year I cracked the crystal by setting the watch on a plastic countertop. Apparently they are not made to handle impact of any kind. Navy Seals must be a fragile bunch.
After considerable hassle, the Luminox service center repaired the watch, but charged me an outragous $120 dollars - and it took them all of 16 weeks.
Several months later the glow-in-the-dark paint fell off of the second hand and now sits inside the watch housing, getting pushed around by the hands.
I like the look of this watch, but the quality is terrible. Even worse, it costs more to fix the frequently broken parts than it costs to buy a better watch.
Give your money to a watchmaker with a quality product who cares about its customers - Luminox is not that company.

Luminox Men's Navy SEAL Series 1 Dive Watch #3001     On: 2007-09-10

This is the second watch of this type I have owned. The first one gave it up after twelve years of trouble-free operation. I hope this one works as long. Very good watch and very durable.
Okay Product - Expect to buy another in a year     On: 2007-08-18

Loved this watch when I first got it - has great styling and was a great backup to my dive computer. Used it for diving here in Alaska. Unfortunately quit working within a year. Quality for the price is pretty questionable. No response from company on fixing it....

Big Money, Poor Quality     On: 2007-07-28

I have owned one of these watches for the past 4 years and replaced the battery once. One day the illuminated part of the second hand fell off and moves loosely on the clock face. The piece is big enough that it was able to jam the second hand stopping the watch. I did not notice for 2 hours. Customer Service was no better, send them $12.00 and the watch and they well call back later and give a price to repair it, no guarantees.
Another complaint is the small date, you need a magnifying glass to see the date. Dont Navy Seals care about the date? If you are looking for a watch that ONE Navy Seal guy wore during his daily workouts, and dont care about the date or time, this is the watch for you.
Low quality Luminox diver     On: 2007-07-20

Problem started first day of ownership. filled with water, water turned to rust color within 15 minutes. Even if I forgot to screw the crown down, which I did not, nothing rusts this fast. ewatches was useless. Manufacturer had me send it to there repair facility, Parsec (worse even that ewatches) accused me of missuse. Manufacturer from the President down said they will get back to me evenutally. offered me a new watch at their cost. This is a low quality product, poor customer service. Much better diver watches out there for less money.
Luminox Navy Seals Dive Watch#3001     On: 2007-04-02

I purchase this watch thinking that it would be on par with TAG formula 1, which is a plastic watch as well but, the second hand did follow the markings on the face where the second hand marks were. It was a half a second off going all the way around the dial. Plus, the watch was loosing too much time compared to my other cheap Heuer Formulas. I sent it in to Jomashop and they have the worst customer service on earth. I will never buy from them again, and probably be real leery of buying anything else at Amazon for letting this sorry company sell to your customers.

disappointed     On: 2007-03-22

I read up on this watch and decided to buy it, thinking if its good enough for a navyseal its good enough for me. 1 month later the wristband spring that connects the belt to the watch popped off during a basketball game. Ever since it keeps happening when small amount of force is applied. The luminox glow in the dark thing works great but it fell off on one of the hands inside the case. I feel bad for our military.
leaks - warranty worthless     On: 2007-03-21

Have a Luminox model 211- water res 5 atmosphere(165ft/50m) - When the watch was one month old, went surface swimming in the ocean and the watch leaked and quit. Sent it back for warranty and they would not repair under warranty. They said the stem must have been out even though I checked and know it was in. Still fighting with Luminox. Might make a good fishing weight. Do not buy for Armed Forces, they deserve better. Luminescence is great, but not much good if it wont work.

Solid     On: 2007-03-20

As a devoted Swiss Army watch wearer, this watch has won me over. Luminox makes a solid watch. Very rugged and the "glow in the dark" features are the top of the line of any watch brand.
Best I Have Ever Bought     On: 2007-03-15

I have has this watch for almost ten years now and the only thing that i have replaced on it was the battery. Its tough which i like in a watch. If you accidentally bump up against something it wont die on you. Im actually looking into buying another one cause after 10 years the watch hands have broken. Still this is the best price on the net and i will definately but another one. I think ten years for a watch is a good feat.
Great Value!     On: 2007-03-10

I had this watch for few days and I have to admit I was bit disappointed at how plain this watch looks. To some of you this watch may look stylish but to my eyes it looks as plain as much cheaper Casio watch. Although the watch is very light and illumination at night is very impressive, this watch is very simple and plain watch. Obviously, I cannot tell you how rugged this watch is or how accurate it keeps time for I had it for short while, however I will recommend against this watch unless you have seen it in person. Trust me watch looks much better in pictures than on your wrist. Having said all of the above it has cool functions such as 200m Water resistent and scratch proof surface and very light band. I am in dillema as to keep this watch or return it....
Poor quality, poor service     On: 2006-11-29

I bought this watch a few years ago. I like the luminous dial, and it has proven to be an accurate and rugged watch. I am disappointed that after a few years the plastic watch band cracked and was no longer usable. Given the price of this watch, and all the military specifications Luminox claims to meet, I did not expect this to happen. I assumed this must have been a defective watch band. When I contacted Luminox to point this out, and asked if they would replace it, they sent me a very curt and direct message in which they stated:

"The warranty does not apply to the band, crystal, crown, bezel or battery."

In looking for a replacement band, I discovered that authorized Luminox distributors sell them for $39.00. I think this is bit ridiculous for a watch band that only lasted a few years. Ive bought complete Timex digital watches for less than the price of this band, and never had the watch band break. In shopping around, I found a Timex watch band made for Casio watches that looked like the original Luminox watch band. I bought it for $8.87 at Wal-Mart.

While I still like the Luminox watch itself, Im very unhappy with it coming with either a defective or very cheap watch band. Im also very unimpressed with Luminoxs customer service. Given my experience, Ive come to the conclusion that Luminox watches are overpriced, and their service is poor. If I could do it all over, I wouldnt buy this watch again.

luminox navy seal watch rocks!!     On: 2006-11-10

Ive been diving for years and have had three of these rugged, abusable, and accurate watches, and, unfortunately, the only problem Ive had with them is that thieves seem to love them!!!! This is why Im on my third. Not too sexy to look at, but Im too old for those worries. It doesnt get caught on dive skins or wet suits; its comfortable; and its acceptable (at least to me) in appearance for formal wear. It remains waterproof to 350 ft after a battery change which is remarkable!!!
Huge fan of Luminox     On: 2006-06-02

I have several Luminox watches and they are all great. This is the original. It is very light (the description here says that the case is steel, but I dont think so: it is hard plastic). The watch is very nice and durable. I am totally happy with mine. They are really great watches, very bright at night (unlike most watches). I highly recommend this watch, especially at the price listed. The only minor thing is that the thing that you set the time with is not screw-down, which "purists" dont like. The watch is very accurate.
A superb casual watch     On: 2005-10-28

The basic Luminox watch is a superb day watch. Although I am on my second one in eight years, this may be a record, as I am not gentle with watchs. The first ones crystal cracked, but the second one is driving on like a champ.

Pros-
The luminous stuff on the hands and face (tritium vials) is bright. I mean really, REALLY bright. None of this hold it under a light" silliness, but wake up at three thirty in the morning and have no trouble reading it.
The twelve oclock tritium vial is orange not green, acting as an index point even in complete darkness. See remark about 0330 hrs.
The bezel can be turned reasonably easily, but wont turn by itself when you are not looking.
Accuracy is good.
Shock resistance, overall durability is very good (damage to my first watch was purely my fault and exceeded any reasonable expectation of survival).

Cons
The Navy SEAL propaganda can be mildly annoying.
The bezel is synthetic (plastic), and after two or three years of use starts to go smooth and the numbers start to wear off.
The luminous stuff on the hands and face (tritium vials) is bright. I mean really, REALLY bright. This con is a special case. If a service member wants to wear this watch in the field, one of those watchbands with the flap to cover the face is a REALLY good idea.
The synthetic strap isnt so good. I replace the watch band with a nylon/velcro one on the first day.
The little compass that comes with it is a wasted effort, get a Suunto watchband compass. Same size, superior in every way.

On the whole, a tremendous value for money, and when I abuse my current one beyond usefulness, I will certainly get another one.
Awesome watch     On: 2005-09-15

I bought a series I a few years ago at a dive shop for $100. I recently lost it, so I am buying another one of the same model. The tritium dials glow extremely well and the watch is lightweight and wont set off metal detectors at the airport. They are tough watches, if you are rough on your watches you will like this model.
Good watch, hard to repair
by: Anonymous    On: 2004-04-28

I love this watch. It is thin, yet tough, and it really glows in the dark.
I have owned for three years. However, I broke the bezel, and it has been really tough to get it repaired. There seems to be no authorized repair center. Seems weird for a company that sells in as many places.
takes a licking keeps on ticking     On: 2004-03-17

I have had one of this style watch for over four years runs maybe two seconds fast a week been thru three bands one tough watch !!!!
Not very impressive
by: Anonymous    On: 2004-01-17

Nasty cheap plastic case, very average illumination. It may "glow" for years but its weak. Horrible strap and a load of very dubious nonsense about a Navy SEAL connection. Cheap watch, vastly over-priced. But SEIKO 200m diver. This thing doesnt even have a screw down crown! Casios have better build quality than this!
