![]() Citizen Eco-Drive Men's Chronograph Canvas Watch #AT0200-05E By: Citizen Average Rating: 4.5 Total Reviews: 34 More Information Liked this watch: until it stopped keeping time Worked great until day 45, which I learned is outside of Amazons return policy for watches. Chronograph function works, but sadly the watch just wont keep time no matter how long it is charged. Unfortunately, Citizen wouldnt provide any phone support, only a recording of instructions to send the watch to their service center. As others have noted: band runs small, hard to tell if chrono buttons actuate, and metal rings on band holes are larger than I expected. Great watch at a great price The watch looks better in person. I am wearing the watch in a deployed location. It looks great with ABUs, BDUs, DCUs, (USAF uniforms)etc. It keeps good time. Its really inexpensive and Amazon will ship to most APOs. I recieved it (in the desert) in about 9 days. Only possible problem is the band. I have a smallish/average size wrist and I wear it on the third to last notch. Citizen Eco-Drive Watch The watch is fine and I believe its a good value for an ECO-Drive watch however, the band on the watch fits an eight grader not an adult. I had to purchase a new band out of box. Product arrived as promised and I am satisfied, except for the band. Citizen Eco-Drive Mens Chronograph Canvas Watch #AT0200-05E Amazingly cheap! Amazingly good! When I first received the watch, Ive got to admit that I was a bit disappointed (it was that ugly canvas watchband). However, after wearing the watch for several weeks and replacing the band, its become my favorite everyday watch. It has a casual and dressy look and feel. At a price point of $117, its an excellent value! The features that I enjoy about this watch: 1) The watch is a lot thinner than I expected. Some guys like a BIG HEAVY watch. I dont. 2) No battery. This can be costly to replace and the battery always dies when you dont want it to die, e.g., on a trip in the middle of nowhere. 3) The hour and minute hands illuminate very brightly in the dark. 4) Second hand sweep that works exactly like a stopwatch. 5) It looks and feels damn good on my wrist! Features that I dont like: 1) Like every other reviewer, I found the canvas watchband to be ugly. I replaced mine with a "Swiss Army-type" rubberized band that is smooth and looks dressy ($8.00 to replace). Dont replace it with a rugged Timex "Ironman" or Casio watch band since it wont look good. 2) The three smaller dials are too small for my old eyes; however, thats my problem. Bigger dials arent possible without making the watch bigger. In conclusion, I give this watch two thumbs up. I deducted one-star for the ugly canvas watchband. However, replacing the canvas watchband is easy and cheap. Very nice watch This watch is currently with me serving a tour of duty in Iraq, and its performing beautifully. So far, there are some very minor scratches on the casing, but the glass is extremely scratch-resistant. I havent had any problems with the watch keeping a charge; it came charged out of the box and has been so ever since. The stopwatch function works great, but I would have liked it to keep time longer than an hour. However, I seem to rarely need to keep time longer than a few minutes so this is a mute point. My only complaint so far is about the watch band. The band looks good in uniform and its very comfortable, but its developing an odd smell. I fear that Ill have to replace it in the next month or two if I continue to wear it every day. Excellent Citizen Watch This is my fifth Citizen Eco Drive. I really like the simplicity and looks of this watch, especially the big easy-to-read numbers and easy interface. My only real critisizm is that the date window is a bit hard to read but I can live with that. The band fits me just fine (I have average size wrists) and actually looks really good, but I wish it was black to match better with my wardrobe. Some of my other Ecodrive watches with metal bands have had issues eventually with the bands breaking, but this particular one is very easy to replace with an aftermarket band if needed. I seriously doubt this would break anyway so it would be probably an asthetic decision. Overall, one of my most satisfying watches (of about 30 of them!) It's OK, but not as good as I hoped. I had a Seiko that did the same things as this watch does, plus the added benefit of an alarm. Of course I lost that watch. So I bought this to replace it. The Seiko set a high standard, but Citizen had always seemed like a good brand. On the good side, the watch looks nice and keeps good time. I was also happy with the price. On the down side, the picture does not show the holes that you adjust the band with. They are the metal variety and it doesnt look good. To me it looked so bad that I switched out the band. Next, is the feel of the buttons. They do not feel strong. When you push the button to start the stop watch it feels like it never pops back out, it just feels week. Over all, this watch did not live up to my aspirations. I gave it three stars as its a nice watch and there is nothing wrong with it (well maybe the band) but it just is not as good as my Seiko was. Great Watch I have owned this watch for about a year now, and I love it. The time is very accurate, the eco-drive is solid and reliable, the weight is great and the price was right. The Pro- -Easy to read, day or night. The luminous hands are bright without being obtrusive. -Large face, but lightweight with the canvas band. -The timer is accurate. -The tick is silent, I cant hear it in a quiet room even next to my ear. -Very durable, no scratches on the face or body even after all I have subjected it to. This is not the watch I wear for dress occasions, it has seen combat, been underwater, been covered in dust, dirt, mud, been through dozens of pressurizations and depressurizations, been dropped, smacked into all manner of walls, bulkheads, gear and equipment and it looks as good as the day I got it. The cons- -The band is awful. It is canvas on top, but the inside part is leather so it takes a while to dry out after a workout or shower and tends to take on the smell of whatever soap, solvent, sweat or whatever it was most recently subjected to. I have to take extra care to rinse out the band for that reason. The holes are metal-lined and while they are durable, they do not allow for fine adjustment and the watch sits just a little too loose (or a little too tight) for my wrist. Id have replaced it long ago, but the band I want will not ship to my location. -Other I wish the military time could be adjusted independently from the normal time. It only tells the military time for the main time setting, which is a little pointless when much of what I do is in zulu/GMT time and not local... Great watch Saw this watch while searching on net for solar type watches. Was so tired of having to pay to get batteries. Found out about Citizen Eco-Drive and the wheels began turning. Ordered the watch originally from another retailer on Amazon who stated that the watch was in stock. Well it wasnt so I had to cancel the order. Amazon had the watch in stock so I got it from them. If ordering make sure you contact whatever or whoever is selling and find out if they have the watch. OK enough soapboxing... The watch is spectacular. The face is large enough but not to big. The band feels great it is however a little on the smallish side. I currently wear it on the second to last hole and I do not have large wrists by any standard. But that is easily fixed by another band. (Really how much band tail do you want hanging? ) The chrono feature is cool and amuzes my kids when the reset button is pressed and the hand whizzes around to zero. The date window is unconventional but it so easily located. It is not in the way like other watches in the 3 hour spot. It is very military looking which is exactly what I was looking for. Citzen also has a 5 year warranty which is outstanding in the industry. I would highly recommend this or any Citzen Eco-Drive. Hope this helps. Very good overall. To me, at least, this is a very attractive watch. The large dial and numbers make it very easy to read, and I like the simple, clean look. The canvas strap is comfortable, and suits my taste. It seems like it should be durable, also, heavy duty cloth with metal grommets reinforcing the holes. No battery is infinitely rechargeable, and I dont know how many years Ill get out of this one, but Im willing to bet on it being a good long time. Well see. I do have to agree with the reviewers who said that the strap seems short. I have a fairly small wrist, 7 inches around, and either the second or third hole from the end works for me. People with large wrists might end up having to get a new strap, but its a common width, and straps are easy to find. I also have to wonder if some of these ship with different length straps. The lowest of the three small subdials is a step second hand that is always running. The analog chronograph uses the subdial on the left for minutes, and the big center second hand for seconds. The problem is that the hour hand, when its between a little after 9 and a little before 11, obscures part of the minutes subdial, so that its sometimes hard to get the exact minutes reading in the chronograph mode. The minutes hand is thinner and (obviously) quicker, so its less of a problem. Ive seen analog chronographs before, but this had never occurred to me. However, you probably wouldnt be using this for very exact timing anyway, as it doesnt do fractions of a second. You could also wait until the hour hand moves on to see what the time was ;). The third subdial is for 24 hour time. If you use 24 hour time regularly, youll convert, say, 5:00 PM to 1700 in your head automatically without any need for this, but it doesnt do any harm, and it looks good. The luminous hands and hour markers are easily visible in the dark, and the glow seems to last quite a long time. In summary, this watch looks great, is easy to read, and seems like it should be durable. Some details arent perfect, but Im happy with mine. Great value in a quality watch If you, like me, are considering this watch because it is simple, has a rugged appearance to it, happens to be a Citizen Eco-Drive model, and is reasonably priced, then you may want to know the following. Pros: This watch is easy to set up and holds time well. It can be dragged across brick surfaces and airplane exteriors without blemishing. It can be taken in the shower and swimming pool without leaking, and the watch band dries before getting a chance to leave wet spots on your trousers while you drive to work. The fit is comfortable and the watch is not heavy or bulky. The chronograph is incredibly easy to use after looking at the instructions once. The hour and minute hands have a nice, subtle glow sufficient for telling time in dark places. Cons: The chronograph maxes out at 60 minutes and then turns off. And I once turned it off accidentally when the back of my hand pushed against the watch. So be careful if youre timing anything serious--like a ninja mission. Notes on fit: Im 59", 170 pounds, and a fitness nut. This watch JUST fits my wrist. So as other reviewers have said, if your wrists have a little padding, plan on replacing the watch band--which is an industry-standard size and easy to replace. Notes on the Eco-Drive battery life: I have done nothing beyond my normal routine to keep this watch exposed to light. I dont avoid wearing long-sleeved shirts or hold my arm out the window while driving home. And so far I have had no issues with the charge. From the time I took this watch out of the box, it has just kept on telling time and taking abuse. Great value for the money. Great Watch terrible strap Large face, large numbers, looks great, feels great but the strap is a total joke. Your wrist would have to be the size of a garden hose to actually work !! How could such a large watch have such a small strap. I was on the last hole of the strap and the remainder of the strap wasnt long enough to pass through the strap loop, so it just stood out. Plus it was so tight it impeded the blood flow to my hand. In less than a minute I had the strap off and replaced it with an extra black rubber dive watch strap I had. Now it fits and looks great too. The Strap is Short I have small wrists and even I consider the strap too short. I suspect that the Citizen company must have had a ton of these straps in inventory and needed to do something with them. The watch itself is beautiful. If the strap were a little longer, I probably would give the watch five stars. It keeps time accurately. I recently changed to a black leather strap and now I can wear this watch anywhere. I can wear it with casual clothes or at work. I bought the strap at Walmart. Its a Timex Quick Change strap. Im very happy with it. Excellent watch This watch certainly does look much better in your wrist than in pictures. Just a couple of days after it arrived, I dropped at work... the watch skidded all over the place, face down, without a scratch. This is your ideal, daily use-or-abuse-it watch. Better Than Expected I ordered this watch because of all the features listed in the ad. I wanted analog, because that is all I wear. I wanted an Eco-drive because I thought it was a cool idea (and the only solar powered NON-digital thing in the world). Military style for a military person. What I got was perfect. It does look better in person. It is outdoor sports meets casual dinner out. I typically wear something along the lines of Victorionox, yet they tend to be more trendy and this is more of casual refinement. I must admit that I havent worn it yet. After looking at it and noticing features that I forgot about (24-hour hand), I put it in the window to charge, and added a lamp because its a very dismal day outside. Citizen Eco-Drive Men's Chronograph Great Watch. If you have small wrists then this strap may work for you. Otherwise youll need to replace it. A 20mm strap from ebay fit perfectly. citizen eco drive canvas excellent, great price for a eco drive watch!!!! Just be aware if you have large arms/wrists, that the canvas band it comes with may not fit really well. I have med/small wrists and use the 3rd to last loop. You may have to purchase another band! Exceeds expectations, it is comfortable and looks great and I actually use the chronograph and 2nd hand, and above all i never have to change the battery. Very nice I got this watch as a gift off my wish list just recently. What attracted me to the watch was its retro military-esq style and its simplicity. Time, date, chrono, done. It looks great in person, and is fairly comfortable, im hopping it will be even more so after the somewhat stiff strap breaks in a bit. The Eco-drive has worked flawlessly so far, it came out of its light-less box ticking fine and it hasnt stopped since. The water resistance is nice since ive already gotten it wet a few times doing dishes. There are only two problems that keep me from giving it a full 5 stars. The first, is that the band is very short. I have, what some might refer to as, "little, tiny, girly wrists", and im on the 3rd to last notch on the strap out of 7 total. I cant imagine anyone with a normal or, god forbid, large sized wrist wearing this watch comfortably. Again, this isnt a problem for me, but is a poor design overall that could affect others. The other problem is the chronograph. It works fine and is straight forward to use, but the minute hand is terribly hard to read. I dont have the best eyesight, but I really have to squint to tell where it is pointing. Its not a huge deal breaker, I mean how often do you really use a chronograph anyway, but again it is just a poorly thought out piece that others might find annoying. Way Bang for the Buck I have owned this watch for exactly a year now, and I wear it every weekend; Im very happy with the thing. I dont need my Hamilton or Rolex when Im out geocaching or bike-riding. I keep it in a case all week, and the weekend time on my wrist is enough to have kept it fully charged the whole year. The black dial makes the white hands and numbers exceedingly easy to read. Ive banged the crystal a few times against various objects and there are no scratches. I own two other Citizen Eco-Drive watches, and they are superior to the kinetic/automatic watches I have -- you dont need to keep it moving to power it; you dont need to use it every day; you dont need to do anything but wear it once or twice a week to rely on it. Ive switched to a leather band, but not because the green canvas (with a rubber back) band is crappy: Its because the green band looks better on my Hamilton and the Hamilton band looks better on the Citizen. All around, an excellent watch that I can depend on. Just wear it when you want and revel in its reliability. My only suggestions for improvement would be that the chronometer were for more than 60 minutes (12 hours would be great) and that it had an alarm. These are the reasons I give it 4, instead of 5, stars. Way Bang for the Buck I have owned this watch for exactly a year now, and I wear it every weekend; Im very happy with the thing. Citizen eco-drive watch Received this watch for Christmas, have yet to wear it. The stitching on the band is unraveling. The watch face itself is not easy to read, the stopwatch dial is too small and makes it very challenging to see. Great watch and great seller Watch was a gift to my son. He loved it. Too soon to tell how it will work but great so far. Better than expected When I ordered the produce online, my only reason was that I wanted a casual watch and an eco-drive; this watch looked decent and was priced at a good discount. But the watch has exceeded my expectation and looks brilliant! The stainless steel case is very well crafted; the dial looks good and the numerals though large look well balanced on the dial as the dial has enough space to accommodate them. The canvas strap feels a little hard as it seems to be made of synthetic rather than natural material, but it looks very sturdy and will definitely last a long time and should not need replacement for a good few years. One feature worth mentioning is the start-stop button of the stop-watch. Though it starts, with a distinct click like in any other watch, when you start the timer, to stop it you just need to press it lightly. The timer stops and you dont feel the usual mechanical click. I think this is a good innovation, as it substantially reduces the lag between your intention to stop and the precise moment when it actually stops the timer. So if you like the way this watch looks on the internet- dont hesitate in buying it. I wish it was a more solid color that would go with anything, but alas it is still okay because it is a fairl dark shade of green. On the performance end, I have not had to set my watch so far (1 month of usage). To summarize, just a beautiful watch for a fair price. Good Watch As mentioned before, the pictures dont do justice to actually how the watch looks like in person. The design is really nice, it has a kind of a retro/military feel to it. The large numbers are a good touch. The canvas strap with a sweat absorbent patch at the back is a nice touch. But the rivets which hold the straps together could have been avoided. Though I found a function to it, the belt needle straps in with a snap in those rivets. The packaging is also quiet nice with a nice precise booklet to read through. Great Watch at a Low Price This is my 2nd Eco-Drive Watch. Eco-Drive is by far my favorite watch brand. My other Eco-Drive is a moon-phase Calibre that I wear to work everyday. I wanted another watch that was less dressy, and was happy when I found this watch at a low price. However, this watch looks very nice, despite its price. Some reviewers dont like the watchband. I agree that a leather band would make it look more expensive, but this is a military watch and the band is quite appropriate. Although the description calls this a canvas strap, the inside is coated so that it does not absorb sweat. Also, I have small wrists and Eco-Drives are the only watches that I can wear without modifying the strap. Its VERY easy to set. It is more like a traditional watch; you only need to adjust the main crown. The other two buttons north and south of the crown control the chronograph. Seconds tick by on this watch on the small dial located just above the "6" on the watch face. The large second hand that you normally associate with the sweep second hand is part of the chronograph. By the way, the chronograph is EXTREMELY easy to operate. One of my favorite features of this watch are the extremely large, easy-to-read numbers on the dial. Only downside is that the three small dials on the face are smaller and more difficult to read, but I think that is an unavoidable consequence of the design. Overall, this is a great watch!! An excellent watch Let me list the virtues of this watch: *It keeps accurate time. *It is easy to read. *It never needs a battery. *It is easy to set. *It is rugged. No scratches after a year of off-and-on wear. *It is inexpensive, which makes replacing the ugly canvas band painless. The chronometer hand on my watch got of alignment as described in an earlier review. [...] Nice watch, original band. A classy watch with a touch of rocker with that great band. Great watch Awesome watch. Strap is too military like, but if the exact same strap was black, it would be perfect 5 stars. Excellent value for a Citizen Eco-Drive This is my fourth Citizen watch, but my first Eco-Drive. I wasnt sure Id ever own one, as Id seen them in stores at retail price, and they were much more expensive. Yes, they were shinier and had nicer watch bands, but to get an Eco-Drive at this price is terrific. The watch band is the same length as my two Citizen watches with leather straps- almost 9-1/2 inches. The strap seems well-made and even has an interior lining of a softer material- to make it more confortable I assume. And is was comfortable from the very first wearing. Oddly, the instruction manual seems a little too concerned with keeping it in light to make sure its charged. One major selling point is it "never needs a battery", so why be so concerned about it? Relax and enjoy the watch. It will let you know when it needs light. This is a great watch, and in my opinion, you cant go wrong buying this or any Citizen timepiece. really nice watch I think the watch looks better in person then on the internet. Its large and easy to read. The only thing that takes one star off is the band. Yes, I knew it was ugly when I ordered it, but thats not the problem. I have an average size wrist, and I wear the watch on the second to last hole, using the very last hole when I work out. Besides the band being too short, its a great watch, and well worth the price. Great Watch purchased the watch on a monday afternoon, had it on wednesday afternoon. This is my third citizen eco-drive, and this one tops them all, band is comfortable unlike many other fabric bands ive owned. The face is very difficult to scratch, Ive accidentally brushed my wrist against bricks, metal, etc, and the watch is still scratchless, very good price, excellent watch. An amazing watch, Nice big numbers, but the band is too small The watch is terrific- I replaced it with a black 20mm rubber swiss army brand band at my local jewelery store, and now it looks like the swankest watch in town. Big numbers, clear readout, never needs a battery. This is thin enough to go under work shirts, but the big face is nice and masculine. Great Watch I upgraded to the eco-drive from a watch that recharged by wrist motion. So far Im a lot happier with the eco-drive. It holds a charge a lot longer, so its not a problem to leave it unworn for a day or two. I didnt like the green military style band on this one, but it was easy to swap for a leather 20mm band. The stock band was a tad small for my wrist. I would expect a lot of men would need to swap it. The numbers look big in the picture, and theyre big on the watch. I like the big numbers, others might not. |
