![]() Polar Watch - S720i By: Polar Average Rating: 4.0 Total Reviews: 4 More Information Good HR watch but go Garmin GPS now This is a good watch for running and getting your heartrate. Several years ago, there was nothing better. The watch is a subpar bike computer substitute but combined with the heartrate monitor, it holds its own. Styling is nice, even for running around town. Using the watch for triathlon training is fine. Unfortunately, during races, its difficult to go from bike to run without losing precious time taking it off the bike. Also, going from the swim to the bike often has trouble finding the bike signal... this is never good when you have to concentrate on the race and your computer is on the fritz. The next generation of Training Watches is GPS and the best one out now is made by Garmin. Its amazing, although big, for running, biking, and tracking your workouts during and after. It uploads the data to a map which can show you your exact route. Even during your run you can see a small map of your progress. The controls are much more intuitive as well. The new model just came out and i believe its only slightly bigger then the Polar 720i (the Forerunner 302 is huge). It tracks you pace during and after your runs and each second can be analyzed online. Some problems are high building and thick tree cover blocking the signal. Also, I still havent done a triathlon yet with it so Im not sure how itll do. My friends have used it and its awesome. Also, if you want to go hiking or any other activity, this product has applications for those as well. I could go on and on but trust me and get the Garmin Forerunner. A Few Quirks, But A Fine Tool This is actually a review of the Polar S-710i, which has been replaced by the 720. My watch is now over 4 years old and Ive got a ton of usage out of it. I use it hiking, biking, running and climbing. Its a great way to document your training and adventures. Being able to plot HR, speed and altitude helps to understand how your training plan is working (or not!). A couple of minor quibbles: the bezel scratches easily, then it gets hard to read the output data, so I use a tennis-type wrist band to protect the watch if Im doing stuff that might scratch it. I think the bike speed sensor should be improved - it eats battries pretty quickly and is overly sensitive to setup. If you have the watch in the auto start/stop mode, a flakey speed sensor can mess up your workout record. Hopefully future models will come with more storage capacity. At the 5-second rate, you get 12 hours and Id rather have double or quadruple that. Too bad they cant cram a GPS in there... And, finally, the software and setup for the IR link needs a retooling - it is lousy! But all these complaints dont mask that this is a great toy for playing and training! like a professional by: Anonymous On: 2004-05-24 When you want to cicling like a pro , you need use a intrument like this, becouse you will have the real information of you excersise and rou can change your error. gran instrumento para ejercitarce by: Anonymous On: 2004-05-24 Este monitor cardiaco ademas de ayudarte con tus zonas de trabajo te da la capacidad de tener tu informacion grabada en la computadora, lo malo es que ya para saber cuantos watt o con que pierna haces mas fuerza para pedalear hay problemas ya que el complemento cuesta lo mismo que el monitor, entonces mejor quedarce con la cadencia y tus zonas |
