 Men's Pulsar Scuba Solar 4000 Watch PUA113SR By: Pulsar Average Rating: 3.5 Total Reviews: 2 More Information Designed to look good, not wear well.  On: 2008-05-06This is not my first Pulsar Solar watch. My previous Pulsar Solar held up to almost 10 years of regular wear. The solar charge worked as advertised, the watch stayed waterproof for swimming and boating. Even the leather strap held up for years. The old watch finally met an untimely end when I managed to accidentally strike a glancing blow to the crystal that caused a fracture that caused a loss of waterproofing. I purchased this model based on my good experience with my earlier Pulsar Solar. I wanted to stay with the solar line, since the case would never have to be opened to change batteries and would thus keep its watertight integrity. Having had this watch for less than a week, I am extremely unlikely to buy another Pulsar Solar. The main problem is that the crystal is made from too soft a material and scratches if you sneeze at it. Prior to the crack, my 10 year old Pulsar Solar had no visible scratches on the crystal. My new Pulsar developed large noticeable scratches on the crystal within the first 24 hours of wearing. This is unacceptable, and reflects that Pulsar is making watches without any thought how they will be worn. A watch designed for diving, as this one claims to be, should stand up to moderately rough wear. Also, this watch is both heavy and thick, reflecting what seems to be current fad for clunky watches. I suspect that Pulsar has made a dive watch only for people who never leave the house. The too easily scratched crystal is a real flaw in the design. I cant return my watch, and I wont be buying another Pular Solar. I give it two stars because basic functions work as advertised. The solar charge system works, the watch is watertight for (at least) swimming and very wet sailing. Great looking solid timepiece  by: jeffedwards On: 2005-09-29 I am rather new to the Pulsar Watch world. Ive known about them for quite some time now, but have never ventured too much into the world of purchasing one -- until now. First off I was attracted to how down-right COOL the watch looks. I already own several solar-powered models (mostly Casio) and one Citizen Blue Angels Skyhawk, but the Solar 4000 just stands out. This watch just simply looks GOOD. As I looked for it here at amazon, I was quite surprised at how much BETTER it looks in person than on my computer screen. You may wish to take that into account before buying this or any other timepiece. I have heard horror stories (mostly from jewelers about brands they dont carry, by the way) about virtually every single brand of watch on the market today. One told me outright that Casio watches never lasted more than a year, NEVER. I happen to know first hand this simply isnt true because I have owned over a dozen over the past 2 decades and only ONE of them has stopped working -- and that was because it was 17 YEARS old. One jeweler told me that Pulsar was in no way connected to Seiko, even though on a plaque at his very store was a sign that read: Pulsar Watches by Seiko. They are simply a less expensive version of their spendy relatives. I personally found more styles in Pulsar that I liked than the expensive Seiko models. Either way, I dont care WHAT it is, every company on earth manufactures a lemon from time-to-time. But I have been fortunate in that I have yet to find any particular watch to be cheaply made -- other than my Dirk Pitt Doxa 600T diving watch (the screw-down button broke after less than a YEAR -- on a watch that sells for $1,200!!!). So in a nutshell, if you go for cool looks and great quality, you simply cannot go wrong with the Solar 4000 diving watch by Pulsar. No need to wind it or even replace the battery. I look forward to many years of service from this particular model. Also, please keep in mind before making ANY watch purchase online, it is best if you can in ANY way view the model you wish to buy IN PERSON before making that buy. For some odd reason, viewing watches on line simply does NOT translate all that well in real life. Dont know why, but thats the way it is. Hope this helps in your next purchase, and good luck! ****UPDATE **** My Pulsar still works great but I DO have one problem: the glass face scratches at the drop of a hat...way more than it ought to. Ive had it buffed and the scratches remain, much to my displeasure. Other than that, I still love my watch and wear it several times a week. |
