A Classic Timepiece     On: 2008-05-16

I own a couple of the Hamilton Khaki King II watches. The one I am wearing right now has a beige face and it is a beauty.

This watch combines everthing I wanted- it has a dial large enough for me to see clearly without being too large for my somewhat narrow wrist, it has a day/date calendar, automatic movement, genuine leather strap, and last but not least, it keeps excellent time.

Hamilton is an old and trusted name in watches and while you can spend a great deal more for a watch, you would be hard pressed to find one that performs any better than the Khaki King.

I recommend this watch, and all Hamilton products, very highly.
Modern High-Tech Tribute To An American Classic     On: 2007-12-12

Of all of the watches that I own, this one is one of my favorites. The Hamilton classic field watch has been a staple of Americana since the turn of the century. One of the only truly "Made In America" brands for many years, Hamilton gained a reputation for manufacturing an affordable, dependable and accurate product for decades. Millions of Hamilton "Field" watches, now called the "Khaki", were made, under contract, for the military and were military issue for decades.
Some time ago, the Hamilton company was acquired by Swatch, in Switzerland. Hamilton watches are now entirely Swiss made, with all Swiss parts and movements, and are still considered one of the most dependable, highest quality, moderately priced time-pieces on the market.
The Khaki King II is one of several different versions of the legendary Khaki field design, and one of the most recent.
It is constructed with a heavy duty stainless steel case, screw down exibition back, monagramed crown, high quality domed sapphire crystal on the front, and sealed, flush sapphire crystal over the back exibition display. The case measures 42 MM, an improvement over its smaller predecessors, with protective extentions at the crown. Inside is a state of the art 25 Jewel Swiss Eta Mechanical Automatic movement. The dial is at the same time simple, and elegant in design with contrasting architecture, applied Arabic numerals, and 24 hour inner markers. The combination minute/second markers are divided into fractional distinctions between each marker for a precision look, and the minute and second hands have pointers that extend to the full perimeter of the dial for precise readings. The bold day and date wheels at the top of the dial were what attracted me to this model. All in all, this watch is as good as it gets for a precision made functional time peice, built to exacting standards with Swiss excellence.
The top stitched leather strap is made of heavy harness leather, and lined on the inside with calf-skin for comfort. It comes together with a heavy duty stainless steel buckle bearing the Hamilton name.
This watch is a high-tech re-make of a world renowned classic, an HOMAGE to one of the best field watches ever made, and worn by American soldiers for decades. It is solid, dependable, built to last a lifetime, and made with one of the most modern and dependable mechanical-automatic movements in the world.
I love leather straps, and I love this watch. It is truly one of my favorites. Obtainable for under $300.00 it is an excellent value. This watch will satisfy all of your needs as a true field watch, or as an everyday time-piece.
