A great timepiece from a great company     On: 2008-01-10

This is quite simply a fantastic timepiece.

FIRST, the aesthetics: It is both stylish and unmistakenly masculine, at home equally on the battlefield and the corridors of power. In an era of larger faces, the SF Air Assault is a return to more moderate size. It looks good on the wrist without overpowering it. The white markings are easy to read and contrast nicely with the black PVD coating and background to actually draw your attention. The subtle splash of color from the red second counter completes the image of a serious and stylish watch.

SECOND, the construction: this is a beautiful timepiece worth far more than the advertised price. It hangs easily with the T#gs and Brei&%*#gs out there. It is solid construction. The movement is precise and it hasnt missed a second in the past month. The features - the 1/10 of a sec counter, 60sec counters, and 30min counter - are all easily read and operated. I have accidentally hit the chrono start button a few times, but not enough to make the the button placement annoying. I have found the bezel to be solid and crisp. The black PVD coating is very scratch resistant - not one yet (caveat: I havent taken it in the field). I opted for the steel band and it is well made, the safety catch being pretty well done. I could remove links myself to adjust the size as well (a plus). Finally, you KNOW youre wearing this big bad boy - it carries some weight.

THIRD, the impression: An online reviewer of Chase-Durer wrote that while another watch company could claim if you can die doing it this company makes a watch for it, Chase-Durer could claim if you can kill someone doing it, this company makes a watch for it. While it is a bit of a strong statement, these watches are serious watches for serious people doing serious things. Popular with military, law enforcement, 6th grade teachers, and now Special Agents, these watches will support the missions they go on. My watch is worn on the right hand and when I go to shake a hand I smile inwardly as my SF Air Assault peeks out from beneath my suit, invariably drawing the other persons attention. It screams professional.

FINALLY, the company: this is a first class company with outstanding customer service. When I initially inquired about a limited edition Combat Command GMT, the president of the company personally emailed me and tried to bring the watch within my price range. what other comapny works with its customers that way?

Save your money, buy Chase-Durer. You wont sacrifice quality. I wouldnt be surprised if demand outpaces supply and drives the prices up.

A very handsome watch, but a little heavier that I expected.
Otherwise a watch well worth the price. Other watches comparable to this are priced much higher
