Great Looking...Excellent Value!     On: 2006-01-11

I was standing on a quiet beach in St.Maarten (DWI) admiring and adjusting the bezel on my newly purchased Blackhawk Mach 3 when another beachgoer asked if it was a touch sensitive Tissot. Honest. We talked about the two watches and I referred my new acquaintance to comments I have made on that Tissot model here at amazon.com. A better comparison for the Mach 3 would be with the Luminox F-16 to which it bears some similarity. Both watches are being marketed to professional men with a sense of adventure. Like the F-16 the Mach 3 has a nicely linked, semi-rigid bracelet that hugs the wrist. Here a rubberized material alternates with stainless steel for a more rough and ready look. The pattern continues to the silver bezel, black watch face and side buttons. Photos of this watch show the hour numbers and hour/minute hands as white, although the light sensitive "superluminova" coating is a pale green. The watch face is readable at night but not nearly as bright as the Luminox F-16 which uses a superior technology. The Mach 3 crystal is flat with minimal glare and the numbers and measured readings are easily read. For the price (I paid $245...suggested retail is $299) this watch is feature rich in comparison to the F-16. In addition to the date box you are getting an alarm and a chronometer-tachometer. The accompanying pamphlet provides a quick introduction to using the "tachymetre", but like most such literature this "Operations Manual" is skimpy. Worth noting: The watch is not water resistant when the alarm is activated. I dont know if this is a widespread issue with alarm watches, but it is something that should be remedied.
