I cannot believe how great the product is but how bad the company sucks. I shipped the fastest method, they received more than two weeks ago, but have not even opened the box and confirmed it has been received. completely satisfied alot of my training as a rower is based around heart rate, especially in the fall. Often its the only number I can rely on when running or rowing in larger boats, so I enjoy all the functions offered. Just what I need for lots of training/ cross training Watch this vendor Purchased this Polar watch from Heart Monitors USA for my wife. As soon as she saw felt it would be too complicated and sent it back without ever opening the box. When I got my credit from these guys is was $28 short of what I paid. They said this was for the shipping cost and would not be included in the refund. I was out the $28 (plus the 8 bucks I had to shell out to send it back.)So beware of these clowns taking your money if you decide you want to return the product. Polar S210 review I have only 2 reservations with this watch. Firstly, the battery requires replacement after 18-months. A review of my training diary showed that I had used it for about 225hrs of training in this period (I dont always use my watch when running). The manual suggested that it would last 2 years, 7 days/week for an hour per day (aqpprox 700 hrs of use). Further, pushing the stop button to finish your workout doesnt always seem to deactivate the timer. Sometines several clear/hard pushes are required. Other than that it is easy to use and performs well. The assessors or "critics" commenting on this product need a reality check Let me start at the beginning. I was fortunate enough to be given this watch as a birthday present. It works the way it is suppose to right out of the box. From my experience, the watch always displays an accurate heart rate. It is a phenomenal device, well worth the money. It is made in Finland (as opposed to China or Taiwan) and I speak from experience when I say that this watch is of quality craftsmanship and superior design. Personally, it meets and often exceeds my needs. I use the device mainly while working out and running. However, it can be used just about anywhere, anytime. For example, I sometimes use it for my autocross track events. After a hot lap and a few close calls, my heart rate changes significantly. On a different note, I cant help but challenge and reject MOST of the absurd reviews herein. Allow me to remind you of how foolish it is consider, let alone believe in, every assessment of a particular product. At this juncture, I have little choice but to point out the widespread of misinformation and lack of knowledge amongst the reviewers. It astonishes me how very misinformed the general public is and how a simple product review is often taken out of context. A couple reviewers rated the product at 3 or 4 stars merely because they had to "READ" the users manual before they could operate the device. Are you kidding me? Let me get this straight - Joe Schmo purchases the device. Joe Schmo does not know how to use the device. Joe Schmo resorts to a low ranking of the "otherwise perfect" device. Seriously though, how pathetic is that? Moreover, there were those who commented on how awful the Polar customer service is/has been. Why? ...Im sorry, that is beyond me. If youre asked to rate a product, then for crying out loud do what you are being asked to do - rate the product! Honestly, I can understand their frustration, but what does customer service have to do with the actual product? Nothing! There is not and never was a direct correlation between a product (whether good or bad) and customer support. As an example, Germanys top auto manufacturer, BMW, is well known for producing worlds highest quality automobiles. It is also well known that BMWs customer relations (aka customer service) are one of the worst in the world. Is that grounds for a negative feedback of every BMW ever made? That is the kind of illogical and ridiculous interpretation of product reviews found below. It gets worse. Joe Schmo leaves a low rank because he "wears polarized sunglasses" and "cant see a thing". Yes, that review tops all. Im speechless. Getting started is a workout Ive been struggling to use this watch for three days now and before that I spent some time reading the manual. Its been frustrating because when I want to start my exercise, it doesnt detect my heart rate. After working up a sweat jogging in place and continuously trying to detect a pulse it finally comes up. Well, the working up a sweat was a key part of that. Because that little book about how to wear the strap (the book that I didnt think I needed to read) clearly says that the two 5 inch sensor areas of the strap have to be thoroughly wet. It even shows a picture of the strap being placed under running water. Doh! The instruction books are not much fun and very long. So heres a quick start: read sections B "How to enter settings" and C "Exercise" these are unavoidable, then THOROGHLY WET THE SENSOR AREAS OF THE STRAP, then try it out. Its a little more complicated than I need right now but maybe Ill grow into it. I wish it displayed "Time in Zone" while Im exercising rather than saving it to a file to be accessed later. I like seeing my pulse as I exercise and modifying my pace to stay in a zone. I just have to guess at how much of my workout time was outside of the zone in order to make my in-zone goal. So far, so good. Don't get this if you wear polarized sunglasses The watch face just looks like rainbows so you cant see a thing. I returned mine for this reason. Otherwise, its fine. HRM okay / Polar service bad I upgraded from a very basic HR monitor to this one because it calculated calories burned, had a baseline fitness check and a logged successive workouts. Unfortunately, it proved unreliable. After five months, the watch died, leaving me with nothing but a "memory failed" message. (For $179 I expect a longer lifespan than this.) It carries a two year warranty, so I thought I could just trade it in for a new one at the store where I purchased it. Noooo! I had to send it back to Polar for warranty repairs. Polar said it would take 5-7 days for them to mail the watch back to me. Its now been two weeks and they are just getting around to fixing it. When it was working the HR monitor was great. Service from Polar definitely leaves something to be desired... A HRM with advanced features If this will be your first HRM, I recommend spending the extra money for the S210. The less expensive models lack backlighting and do not allow programable interval training - a feature that you may appreciate having as you progress. One note regarding purchasing the S210 from Amazon: Unless this item is listed as "in stock," count on a few days before the item is actually shipped. Great monitor, but DOES NOT WORK with wireless bike computers. This is a great HRM with lots of functions, but if you intend to use this on your bike and you have a wireless bike computer like myself, DO NOT BUY THIS HRM BECAUSE IT WILL NOT WORK. I just wasted my money on it. Polars HRMs pick up all the signals from your wireless bike computer (and they try their best not to tell you this) and your unit thinks its a heartbeat signal and as soon as you start riding it shows your heart rate jumping up to a ridiculous level (which it isnt) like around 230 bpm. Ive had other HRMs that didnt pick up my wirelss bike computer signals, so I dont know why Polar cant figure out how to prevent this from happening. Nice HRM, but its as good as garbage if it wont function where you need it to. Unit is fine but Customer Service is HORRIBLE! I have had the s210 for about a yeear and have been very happy with the unit. Recently, my truck was broken into and my transmitter was stolen... I know, my falut... I placed a phone order with Polar on December 2nd (today is 12/14) and I still do not have my new transmitter. Polars service SUCKS! They told me that they shipped the transmitter on 12/9, one full week after my order was placed. Maybe its just me but I expect (and deserve) a higher level of customer service. Next HRM WILL NOT be a Polar. EXCELLENT PRODUCT LOVE THIS PRODUCT. Although it takes a bit of reading to really understand how to use all the tools..and things like the calorie counter dont work until your heart rate is above 90, but it does work. |
