Chinese junk watch     On: 2008-06-29

The design was what attracted me. Very retro and detailed. It looks beautiful. It is just junk. After wearing it for a week I noticed a small hand laying on the bottom of the dial. I took it to my watch repair man. It happened a second time to another small hand. The repair man told me he would repair it as often as I would pay for it, but that I should just save my money. It wasnt worth more than a few bucks, even when running, because of its junk movement. Stienhuasen is a deliberately misleading name. It has no "Made In " mark because you are ment to assume it is German or Swiss. It is Chinese and imported by an unscrupulous importer.
getting a bad rap..     On: 2008-04-12

Nobody loves a luxury timepiece more then I do. 2 years ago I recieved a steinhausen watch as a gift and since got more compliments then my movado and have had no problems keeping time. As for my other watch it has been in for minors repairs twice. Heres my problem. I read all the bad reviews online about watches like stienhausen that compete with high end watches. If it costs a high end watch company 500k to assemble a new line but can save more then half sending them overseas you can bet they do. While the dials, rotors and the back casing where the logos go on ...the bulk of the watch is being assembled somewhere else and its all hush hush with the watchmakers association who have greasy palms especially when the product is sold for 3k but only costs $90 to make the profit is goes to the name brand and the history. The way a high end watch is made is exactly how a steinhausen or another competing brand is made exept the palms stay dry and the watch is sold for alot less. The difference is the correct country where its really made is forcefully marked (different rules). Word is that that some of the lowed priced luxury watches were supposed to be sold in department stores but the 2 big watch companies one starts with M the other S threatened to walk. Sears biggest selling watch is a stienhausen but can only sell them online (wonder why?). So to all you bad reviewers that are pissed off because either cheaper watch looks and runs as good maybe even better then your $3k watch or theres some sort of personal gain from the bad reviews? who knows?

Run, Don't Click Away From This Product     On: 2008-04-10

I bought this watch from another company along with a TW691G for my girlfriend as treats following a traumatic period in our lives. We were excited to receive them along with their great-looking TM478 winders. They are beautiful watches.

Our disappointment followed soon after. After using the NIST to carefully set each watch, (Im a stickler for this,) and keeping them in their winders, we found they both lost an average of a minute or more a day. They had to be reset daily. Over time, they became a joke and we stopped wearing them except for "special occasions." When we brought them out, we found the month dial was one or two settings off, the hour and minute hands were far off. In short, pretty junk.

Do not buy this watch.

I would not recommend this watch     On: 2008-01-22

I would not recommend buying this watch. I bought it for my boyfriend because he had been wanting it for a long time. It is a beautiful watch, however it does not work correctly. After you set it, it loses about 30 seconds per day. The day and time did not switch over correctly either. It was very disappointing and we had to return it.
Very Cool Reproduction of a Classic old watch     On: 2007-09-24

Received mine for my birthday. I love it. Some comment that some of the features on this watch should be changed to be more readable, convienent, etc. The point is that it is a "Replica" of a classic old automatic watch. They didnt optimize it. Improve on it, change it, they reproduced the original. It is what it is. I like it alot. Hopefully it continues working for a long long time.
Some of the reviews are lies

All of the reviews that say that this watch was made in China is totaly incorrect. I can say this with total confidence because I, myself have this same watch. On the back of the case it clear says "Case China". This does not mean that the watch was made in China, just the case is. The case may have been made in China but the parts or "jewels" were made in Switzerland. The "jewels" are the most important part of the watch (they are the parts that make the watch work). I hope that this review helps change the minds of future buyers.
MADE IN CHINA!!     On: 2006-06-17

I had been admiring this watch for some time and finally bought one through the "steinhausen" website. It was odd that the watch was delivered from gadgetuniverse.com. I was very supprised to find out that my "Swiss" watch proudly had "Made in China" stamped on it. (Maybe on the website they meant it was made by a Swissman and not in Switzerland)

Anyway, I had the watch for a week before one of the arms fell off. About the same quality you would expect from anything made in China. I returned the watch about a month ago and I am still waiting for my refund. IF YOU BUY THIS WATCH, DO NOT EXPECT A NICE SWISS WATCH!!!

fraud- cheap chinese replication     On: 2006-06-10

I bought this watch thinking that it was a swiss movement watch- this is clearly not-- does not hold time-- is NOT well made-- wish i never would have bought watch and I FEEL CHEATED by the company that sold it

Looks and feels like a much more expensive watch     On: 2006-03-18

I received this watch for Valentines day and I have been very pleased so far. The watch a fantastic retro-feel that works very well with a business suit or other dress clothes. The watch and the 2 leather bands are very substantial and have a very good feel on the wrist. The back of the watch is clear, so you can see the movement, which is really pretty cool. Lastly, the watch has a self-winding feature that will keep it running without batteries or winding, assuming that you wear the watch every day, however.

On the negative side, it is made in China, not Switzerland, so there is no cache there. Also, if you do not wear the watch every day, you will have to wind it daily or reset it the next time wear it. Lastly, the buttons for setting the month and day are easy to click, so you can easily advance the month or day without realizing it. Not really a major flaw, but it seemed to be a concern for the first reviewer.

Overall, I am thrilled to add this watch to my collection. It looks and feels like a much more expensive watch than it actually is.

pretty, but...     On: 2006-03-10

I was influenced by the "retro replica" nature of this watch. Indeed, it is very stylish, and looks like fine jewelry that nicely accents a dress shirt. However, I was dismayed to find that I often had to manually set the little day of the week dial, as it did not stay synchronized with the timekeeping of the watch. Fortunately, I usually know what day of the week it is, but if the feature is on there, it should work correctly....
Classy reproduction of a really cool invention from the past.

Im a bit of a sucker for automatic watches, especially old ones. It just strikes me as neat that 80 years ago, men wore watches that didnt need batteries or winding (assuming they never took them off for long, naturally). I cant say that about my Timex. Sure, the battery lasts 5 years, but it runs down eventually.

I bought the silver version of the Steinhausen last year, and I love it. I like the feel of the automatic movement winding itself when I move my arm. Its just a very cool thing.

Beyond that, this watch looks better than ones costing five times as much. Its a bargain.

Recommended, especially for those who are mechanically inclined. That automatic movement will fascinate you.

NOTE: If its a big deal to you that the watch runs down if you dont wear it every day or so, you can buy devices that keep automatic watches running. Basically, it vibrates periodically to keep the movement working when you arent wearing it. You can get those from 50 to 100 dollars. A bit pricy, but you can buy it and the watch both, and still have a watch that looks like it cost you over twice as much! Plus, you can use the "winder" for other automatic watches, so its a one-time cost.
Made in China?!?!     On: 2006-02-05

I bought this watch as a gift thinking that I was purchasing a "proudly made" watch from Europe. Ha! I get the watch and its "Made in China"! False advertising!
Classy     On: 2005-12-20

This is one fantastic looking watch. The design is stunning and will draw looks from others. I got one last Christmas and wear it more than any other watch. It is comfortable as well. The leather bands really set it off. I recommend this watch.
