![]() Casio Classic Digital Black Resin Strap Watch, F91W-1 By: Casio Average Rating: 4.5 Total Reviews: 15 More Information Best watch in the world? Some things are destined to become classics. Whether thats by luck or design is a moot point. But theres little doubt that this, and the more water-resistant W-59 have been around long enough to be considered classics. Ive owned many watches over the years, including a Rolex, but for me this is probably the best watch in the world. A pretty bold statement, but heres why I think its impossible to beat: Im a simple guy and simplicity is key. Less is definitely more. I do not want to have to calculate the time from something the size of a brick that looks like a flight deck. Nor do I want to worry that Im going to scratch the glass or case, have expensive repair bills, lose it, or have it stolen. All major drawbacks proportionate with expensive, but by no means necessarily better, things. Neither is my watch a fashion accessory for me. So I simply could not care less if it has retro appeal. Personally, I think it looks neat (the best design is timeless - pun intended). Beautifully small and light, its nevertheless easy to read and easy to set, has an automatic calendar (no faffing around changing the date), an alarm (which is loud enough to wake me), a backlight, a chronograph (should you need one - but great for boiling eggs to perfection, etc), an has a 7 year battery life. In short, this watch does everything I want a watch to be/do - with absolutety no fuss. Its accurate, functional, tough and ludicrously cheap. And in terms of value for money, its way off the scale. The only other things that come close are Bic pens and sliced bread. I love this watch. If only everything in life were as simple or reliable. I hope that Casio realise what theyve got and continue to produce this watch into the twenty-second century and beyond. The last thing we simple guys want is for some moron marketing exec to decide that something as no-nonsense and inspired as this is too outmoded... Perfect watch! This watch has everything I want and nothing I dont. I wanted a light, stopwatch, alarm, day and date displayed, water-resistance, small face, cheap price, easy to use, and reliable. I set it to US official time and checked it a month later, it was only 7 seconds fast. Casio has kept making this time-tested, user-friendly design for a long time, and I hope to be able to buy another one when this one breaks in 20 years. A good basic watch This is a good, inexpensive, basic watch. If you just want a watch that will let you know the time in either 12 or 24 hour formats, has an alarm feature and a no frills band, this is the one for you. It is modestly priced. This is the watch Ive been using in both civilian and military worlds for over 15 years. The alarm works well in a low noise environment and when youre not totally exhausted by continuous 18-20 hour work days. Ive slept through it it beeping in my ear, then. Additionally, the ones Ive had usually run about 8 seconds fast per month. I also like that it has only 3 buttons to manipulate, to get to all the features, alarm, stop watch, lap timer, to change the date/time, and to illuminate the watch face to read it in the dark. All in all a very good watch that Ill keep on buying. Damn This Watch I bought this watch 10 years ago and I totally abuse it with use. It just will not die so I can justify getting a new one. Oh well, on to the eleventh year... 21st Century Miracle I can keep track of the time (it gains about 5s per month), measure my jogging pace, and trade a $60M hedge fund using the alarm, all for $10. Truly these are the days of miracle and wonder! Damn This Watch I bought this watch 10 years ago and I totally abuse it with use. It just will not die so I can justify getting a new one. Oh well, on to the eleventh year... Casio Classic. This watch remined me of my school days and its still a classic. The company that popularised digital watches. Casio makes some cool digital watches that are out of reach for many other watch manufacturers even today. Bought this as a gift for my nephews... Let the tradition continue. Practical, reliable, durable, political. Its an excellent little watch. Its light, waterproof enough for swimming, keeps accurate time, has a light to read the time it in the dark, and its cheap enough that its not a big deal if you lose it. Its also the watch listed in the Combat Status Review Tribunal transcripts of 18 Guantanamo detainees and given as a reason for their continued detention. (Wikipedia: "Casio F91W") Its a unique conversation piece, a political statement, and a practical purchase all rolled into one. Practical, reliable, durable, political. Its an excellent little watch. It has a large digital readout, day/date, alarm, night light and a stopwatch. It is easy to read and use, is slim on my wrist (no fat divers watches for me!), nice looking and inexpensive. In addition, it is non-allergenic to my apparently acid skin chemistry. No base metal finish to turn green and make sores on my skin. I love it. A solid timepiece This is a nice solid timepiece. If you wear it too tightly, the band may break off eventually, but other than that, it puts up with a lot of abuse. Its very convenient having it be waterproof enough that I just take it into the pool or shower or lake with me. If it had a countdown timer as well as its other features, Id rate it a full 5 stars, instead of the 4 stars I am giving it. Great everyday watch If Casio would make a more durable watch strap, Id never need to buy another one. But I love this watch. The strap usually lasts about 2 years and then I throw away the watch and buy another just like it. Its easy to program and I like the alarm and timer functions. Alarm is 20 seconds only The alarm only sounds for 20 seconds, which i slept through on the first test. Just the basics I searched out the Casio F91-W1 as I had such good memories of an early version of a Casio sports watch. It lasted forever, other than the bi-annual replacement of the band. On the internet, it looked like this was a simple version of the watch of my memory. As it turned out, its a basic version of the same, and for the price (less than 10.00) who could complain? The mechanics all work well, it keeps good time, and provides a chronometer and alarm. It is a little petit...doesnt really look like a mans watch...and unlike the earlier version lacks a count-down timer. Otherwise it appears to be the usual excellent Casio product. Simple, light, disposable I love this watch. It has all I need - time, date, alarm, and backlight. Its thin and lightweight. Its so cheap, I dont fret if it gets washed, dropped, scratched, or dropped in the deep fryer. My only complaint is that the watchband is not that long, and even though I have average-sized man wrists, I have to use the last or next to last hole to wear it, which means there isnt a lot to tuck into the strap band. If you have big wrists, this probably wont fit you. The all-time digital classic I bought a watch like this in the early 80s, and since then Ive bought many watches, but for some reason, I always return to this classic digital watch as my favorite piece to wear on my wrist. Its light and almost unnoticeable. It doesnt have that many thrills, its barely water resistant, but it has the simple classic look the digital watches I remember from my childhood. Yes, you can buy a bulky G-Shock or whatever, but this watch is one of its kind. It will not stand out and blend in nicely with any attire, even business suits. Wear it and be proud! |
