More Information

Handsome, relatively inexpensive watch with a few key drawbacks     On: 2005-12-05

Purchased this YEMA/Seiko to replace a previous well-liked Seiko smashed up in a mountain biking accident. I like the looks of stainless sports watches like these but must confess I rarely if ever use the functions beyond time and day of month. So no comments on the "extras."

The watch keeps time just fine and looks great. My first beef is that part of the hidden clasp is made of a pretty malleable bit of steel so that, after about a week or so, the clasp loosens and opens spontaneously. I can "adjust" the clasp with the aid of a small flathead screwdriver, but this is a crude process, has gouged the clasp a bit, and only buys another week or so of secure clasping.

The second more worriesome problem is that the time/day adjustment dial sometimes pops out far enough on its own to arrest the main hour and minute hands. At first I just thought the battery was a dud, but the second time it happened I noticed the adjustment dial had popped out.

This issues are not big enough for me to seek a return or repair, but they do make me wary of buying another Seiko down the road.
