watch vs heart rate monitor     On: 2008-07-23

The watch is fine however the heart monitor works only some of the time. If I had to do this over again, I would not have purchased the item.
Completely Satisfied     On: 2008-07-22

This product has completely met my expectations for a low cost heart rate monitor with easy operations. So far I have not experienced some of the difficulties other reviewers have expressed including non-functioning batteries and lack of communication between the units. I have moistened the sensors before use and everything is working perfectly. Highly recommended.
A True Disappointment     On: 2008-07-14

I purchased this product in March and have used it faithfully since. The heart rate monitor works fine. Unfortunately, this watch is neither water proof nor water resistant. During a swim with my children in a local pool (max depth 7 feet), water leaked into the watch and shorted it out. I plan to return it under warranty, but thought that "ironmen" or swimmers should be aware of the difficulty I have expereinced.
Exceptional Quality     On: 2008-06-19

Im a new user of this type of heart rate monitoring equipment. Being in the Air Force, weve used these belt type monitors during physical testing. I use mine for treadmill workouts and to ensure my heart rate is elevated during weight training afterwards. Im completely happy with the ease of use and durablility. There are other more expense options available on the market but this one does everything you would need or expect and then some. Unless youre a world class athlete you cannot go wrong with the features and quality this fine piece of equipment provides.

Have a Heart Monitor     On: 2008-05-27

The watch is somewhat large...I thought I should have gotten the smaller version. However, after wearing the watch I actually forgot I had it on! So far everything is working as described.
I love this thing...     On: 2008-05-02

If you are going to do cardio witout a heart monitor, you might as well not do cardio at all.

This monitor is my second HRM and incredibly responsive.

When I first bought it I could not get it to work for anything. However, you have to wet the leads/ contacts on the chest strap, and then it should work like a charm.

I use it with the Timex Data recorder, which also is a great tool for working out and tracking your progress.
Does what it claims     On: 2008-04-11

Ive had this HRM for about a month, and use it 4 - 6 times per week while walking. The functions are clear and easy to use, and the HRM is accurate. The Review function gives you quick feedback after exercize. I also like that the size and style of the watch make it suitable as a casual watch to wear most of the time. This is a solid product that works as advertized.
Works great, very comfotable     On: 2008-04-08

Most comfortable watch Ive ever owned and is easy to keep clean. Full functionality of the Ironman series is a huge plus. It does not work with our existing chest straps but the one that comes with the watch is comfortable. Takes a bit longer (1-2 minutes) to accurately pick up my heart rate than other products used. Overall, would purchase again.
It is what it is.     On: 2008-04-05

I race mountain bikes competitively, and run 5k, 10k and Half Marathons. I use this watch daily on runs, mtb rides and while strength training. I have no problems and get the info that I need. Great watch for the money, looks tough to. I had a timex HR monitor before, used it for over two years and then lost the watch, never had a single problem with it either.
Timex Heartrate Monitor does the job     On: 2008-04-01

I purchased this item to be used strictly for monitoring my heartrate during workouts. I find it comfortable to wear and not too big but it wasnt so easy to program. Perhaps if I was willing to take more time with the instructions I could utilize more of the functions... Overall a good value and suits my current needs just fine.
Very Nice and Basic HRM     On: 2008-03-27

I am very pleased with the functionality and style of the watch. My previous HRM was from Polar. Not only was it so ugly on my wrist I felt I could only wear it while working out, it only lasted 1 year before it began malfunctioning.

This watch does everything a serious but not UberGeeked athlete would want from a HRM. It gives you chrono, it gives you zones, it gives you an easy to read display. It doesnt take a degree in engineering from MIT to work its different modes.

Good watch for a fair price.
Get your heart racing     On: 2008-03-17

Watch and monitor worked fine the first time out. I am not a triathlete so I probably dont stress it as much as some but I do use it when I work out or go running and it gives me the heart rate data that I am looking for. Recommended for the average cross training athlete who doesnt want to spend $100 for something to tell the time. I have not had any problems with it recognizing the monitor as some have on this list.
good job     On: 2007-12-13

this product worked as advertised. I use for heartrate monitoring during cardio exercise. does nice job. havent tried any of the other features yet (avg heart rate, etc.) since i dont need. Overall, Im satisfied.

Very good watch     On: 2007-10-10

Purchased the watch for running.
Positives: heart rate and elapsed time displayed at the same time; nice review feature which gives avg heart rate, peak heart rate, time in heart rate zone, and calories burned; and most importantly, havent had a single problem with it--100 percent dependable to date.
Negatives: The out-of-zone alarm. But, theres an option to turn it off.
No complaints---good watch!

Don't use in the water!     On: 2007-10-10

Great watch... great heartrate monitor.
Just dont expect to use it in the water. I clouded up after only 1 swim. I sent it back to Timex... they replaced it, but my new one did the same thing only a few week later when I wore underneeth my leather motorcycle jacket on a warm summer day ride when my sweat did the same thing. Chances are... the button was pushed by my jacket sleeve allowing persperation to leak in.

Meet all my expectations...     On: 2007-01-16

Easy to use, accurate and easy to maintain. Straps sensor battery may be changed by user. Loved the feature of taking measurements per lap and reviewing each laps statistics.

Decent HR monitor/Watch     On: 2007-01-14

I bought this as a beginners HR monitor and I think it worked fine in that role. Not too many features, yet enough for me to get started.

Overall I liked it. However, after a few months I feel I am outgrowing it.
Good Basic Functions     On: 2006-11-10

I started running a few weeks ago and was looking for a decent priced heartrate monitor without a lot of frills...and this is it. It is very easy to setup and use.
Expectations fulfilled     On: 2006-11-04

I think it is a good product that delivers very well what it promises. It was very easy to use from the first time and it has proven to be a good sports watch and heart rate monitor
Works fine occasionally     On: 2006-08-26

Ive had this heart rate monitor for about 8 months now and if its not for the fact that Im cheap, I wouldve tossed it long time ago. The watch itself looks okay, the band is plastic and cheap looking. The main complaint that I have about this watch is the heart rate monitor reliability. More time than not, my heart rate cant be picked up. Ive tried every trick in the book, but still have trouble with it. Everytime I put it on, I have to keep my fingers crossed and hope that it will pick up my heart rate, but most of the time it doesnt. When it does work, very occasionally, the heart rate is pretty accurate.

Just save up some more money and buy a Polar to avoid all this hassel.

Easy to use, inexpensive, and durable     On: 2006-08-22

This is my first heart rate monitor and after a lot of searching, I selected this one. I am not a Tri-athlete Olympian, just an average guy who runs about 3 times a week. So I wanted something an average person would actually use. I wanted to improve my running ability and heard a HR monitor was the way to go. I checked out other brands such as Nike and Polaris, but they all seemed too complicated and bulky. That being said, I was looking for a basic, easy to use (Not complex), inexpensive, and sturdy HR monitor. Well the Timex 5C411 fit all of my criteria. This HR monitor is very easy to use and aesthetically pleasing as well. The basic functions can be learned very quickly (Especially for anyone whos owned a Timex Ironman watch). I got them down after one use. Cant beat the price and Timex is known for "Takes a licking and keeps on ticking." There is only one thing I wish was a little different. When using the chronograph, the HR appears in small numbers above the counting time which makes it just a hair difficult to see when you want to view your lap time and your HR. However, if you cycle through the menus back to the main time screen, your HR takes the place of the normal time and appears in large, easy to see numerals (just a minor observation). So far it works great and I am very pleased with the purchase.
Excellent Value     On: 2006-06-18

I often use Consumer Reports when buying products, but the last review of heart rate monitors (HRM) was a couple of years ago and many tested models were discontinued, and the existing models were unattractive, so I had to choose one on my own. So far, this watch and HRM have worked without issue.

Pros:

- Looks great
- Inexpensive
- Accurate (via my own informal tests)
- Comfortable

Con:

- Need to dampen heart rate monitor contacts before using (very minor)
Great watch for someone who likes to keep track of their workouts too!!!     On: 2005-10-07

This watch is perfect! I use every one of the functions through out the day, and use the fitness features while working out. From keeping track of time in two time zones to timing between sets and monitoring my heart rate I use it all!!! This is the simplest watch to use with all of these functions, and the display is layed out practically and you can modify it to your tastes. All in all, the best watch Ive had in years. Oh, it doesnt look to bad either; although it wouldnt be too appropriate for a night on the town it still looks good. It was surprisingly small for all the functions it carries. If this thing ever breaks, Ill buy another one right away!
