not durable Chase-Durer     On: 2005-07-31

I bought a little different version of this same watch about 6 years ago in USA, and in about 2 years the spring inside the start-stop button broke. It just did not work. I repaired here in Korea and in about half a year it broke again. Its price then was quite lower than now, being about $180. As others told, the watch is very handsome, looks nice, but the construction is not durable at all.
However the luminant hands work very well. The light last for hours in the dark, contrary to what is told in another review. So I understand there may be some different versions of it or it just changed as its design did a little.
Handsome watch during the day, but at night......

Let me begin by saying this is a very handsome, well constructed, well styled watch. It has many features which are comparable to watches costing much more, such as saphire crystal lens,screw-down crown, for superior water resistance, rotating bezel that can be positioned to indicate time in another time zone. The fly in the oinment however, is the illumination on the hands and numbers. Its billed and described as an illumination system!! Let me tell you, this watch as well as the other Chase Durer watches with this luminous system, some costing considerably more, dont deliver! This watch, after being set under a very bright light source for an hour, only glowed for perhaps a half hour before becoming unreadable in the dark or even low light, such as a movie theatre! This may seem like a small gripe, but I have owned many watches, from Citizen, Tag Huer, and even a few inexpensive Swatch Watches, and they all had hands and numbers which glowed far longer than this Chase Durer model!! This is important because, a great deal of the time, perhaps more than you think, you will need the time in a low-light situation and this brand of watch will let you down! Researching chronographs, as I did before purchasing this one, I thought this one would be perfect, military ruggedness to boot. It is well constructed, but not legible in the dark, due to a very fast depleating glow system. If this is not important to you, as many people have watches with no illumination, some with no numbers or indicies at all, this is a great military style anolog, military style Chrono. ,but if you require illumination at any time, Chase Durer may be wanting!! A good alternative would be Luminox, which has a continuos lumination system that requires no light at all, or for much less Timex has traditional analog chronographs with a botton, that when pushed lights the face of the watch. I also found this Chase Durer much less at WorldofWatches.com . Happy Hunting Soldier, carry on!! Simp. Phi
