Disappointing     On: 2008-07-28

This watch looks good and was delivered promptly. Unfortunately it didnt keep time. It would be fine for a day or so, then promptly lose a couple of hours. I returned it to the supplier (Chelsea Watch) and asked for a replacement. After about a week they issued credit to my Visa rather than sending a new watch. This is the first problem I have had with a Timex product, so I believe it to be an isolated incident. Overall it was a disappointing experience however.
Good Watch     On: 2007-12-07

This is my first expedition watch And Im really happy with it. Nothing flashy, but does what its supposed to do. Since the digital display is pretty small I suspect the other features like stopwatch etc. would be difficult to work with. Thats the only real complaint about this watch.
So so watch     On: 2007-10-30

Bought this watch several months ago...looks very nice...but, its very difficult to adjust time, alarm, ect., overly complicated. Also the LED is almost impossible to read, its just too small. Dont think Id buy this watch again.
ATTRACTIVE AND DURABLE     On: 2007-09-21

Very attractive and sturdy watch. It is a bit heavy but for the price i really love the watch.
Rent-a-watch     On: 2007-08-16

I get another one of these every couple of years. Maybe its just me, but mine dont last that long. I dont treat them roughly at all, dont get them wet (unless caught in the rain), and they still die on me. Gone are the days of "Takes a Licking and Keeps on Ticking."

What keeps me coming back? I love the analog hands plus digital features -- especially the countdown timer. Having a watch with a timer has made a huge difference in my life. Need to be back from lunch in an hour for a meeting? Set the timer for 45 minutes. Need to take antibiotics 8 hours apart? Set the timer for 8 hours. Want a simulated snooze alarm? Set the alarm, and then set the timer to go off 10 minutes later. The timer alone makes this watch one of my most favored gadgets.

And, even though theyve gotten more expensive, the price is still decent. Its very hard to find an affordable combo watch with all these features, so I keep buying a new one whenever the old one gets out of whack.

The most recent one started keeping erratic time after a couple of years. I replaced the battery (got somebody at the dept. store jewelry counter to do it for me to make sure it was done right), and it still had the same problem. Before that, my previous couple of Expeditions kept accurate time but went silent after I replaced the battery. And since the watch doesnt vibrate, a silent alarm or timer doesnt do you much good.

After one of these "new battery = no sound" episodes, I discovered theres a little metal contact inside that enables the sound. It can get bent down when the battery is being replaced. If you take off the back and carefully bend up the contact slightly so its again touching the metal back of the watch when you close it, the watch will make sound again, for a while.

Despite this recurring annoyance, Ive finally concluded that these are affordable enough, and useful enough, that I can amortize the cost over a couple of years. I just got a new one. See you again in a couple of years.
I've finally had it.     On: 2007-08-16

I used to get another one of these every couple of years. I didnt treat them roughly at all, but theyd still die on me. Gone are the days of "Takes a Licking and Keeps on Ticking." The watches would typically die when it was time to replace the battery. Either they would quit making sound, start keeping erratic time, or freeze up.

My most recent Timex Expedition watch death--after owning it for less than a year--happened when I pressed the Indiglo night-light button. Not only did it not light up, but every function except the analog hands no longer works, and the digital time display is frozen at 7:32.15 p.m. (What the heck, its still right once a day!) So now its no better than hundreds of other battery-operated watches with hands but no special functions.

After owning six or seven of these watches over the past 30 years, Ive decided that was my last Timex purchase.

After scouting around for another watch with analog hands, countdown timer, and alarm, I settled on the Casio Mens World Time Databank Watch #AW80-7AV for $20.19 plus shipping. So far it seems like a decent watch, but Im sure Ill enjoy it more when I replace the cheap plastic band with a cloth/velcro one from Bison Designs.
Really Solid Watch, But Digital Could Be Easier To Read     On: 2007-07-17

Ive had this watch for a year and have been fairly satisfied with it, especially for the price. The watch is solid and the crystal has held up REALLY well considering I work with my hands. I have only two negatives for this watch: 1) The digital portion is very hard to read in all but direct light. In direct light it looks like the picture in the description; in anything else there is no contrast at all - the green background disappears. 2) The stem occasionally (three times in a year) pulls out and stops the watch. Overall, I would reccomend this watch for the price.
awful manual     On: 2007-04-03

This is a nice-looking, sturdy watch. Its a bit heavy. The manual that came with it was awful - it referred to a different model entirely. After a little detective work online, I found a manual that covered this watch among several others. The pdf file had a miniscule font and was almost impossible to print in a useful form. Even after magnifying the manual 200%, the instructions are very cryptic.
Nice watch at a good price     On: 2007-02-22

The watch is excellent; has nice features (two time zones, digital & analog displays, etc.) My only problem is that the watch shifts to the outside of my wrist unless I fasten it tightly, but then it cuts off my circulation.

If you want a watereproof watch with an analog dial and "look", but need timing functions and an alarm and a decent night light, this model is the answer. Im an avid sailor, and this watch contains an easy stopwatch to time buoy lights, a dual time zone capability, and an excellent alarm function that is loud enough without annoying others. Ive given the watch a heavy beating for 3 years, and swam with it nearly every day in chlorinated water, and it still is in superb condition -- works as good as the day I bought it.
Darn Good Watch     On: 2006-05-13

I purchased this watch after returning a Casio Waveceptor. The Waveceptor was very good, but I needed a watch that was easy to read without reaching for my specs.

Ive had the watch for over four months now, and Im very pleased.

This watch met all of my criteria. Its easy to read, supports multiple time zones, and has the Indiglo backlight that is bright enough to use as a nightlite when navigating a dark bedroom populated with the odd sleeping cat, dog or lurking dog toy.

As mentioned by another reviewer, its not perfect. It would be nice to have the digital and analog components automatically synchronize, and I would favor having a larger screen for the digital numbers, and making it a bit thinner and lighter would also be nice.

But, for less than $50, a watch that gives you the time, day or night, provides multiple time zones, an alarm, a stop watch and has a clean, business like look, but is comfortable on a hike - hard to beat it for the price.

I highly recommend this watch.
Nice watch but hard to set the alarm     On: 2005-03-02

I generally like the Timex Expedition series because they have both an alarm and a light on an analog watch.

I had an older Timex Expedition that had a rotating ring around the face. This ring was used to set the time and the alarm, and was very simple and quick to use. Just spin the ring to the alarm time, and pull out the crown to set the alarm. There was also a nice feature that would let you set an alarm for up to 1 hour from now, which was nice for setting timers for cooking, etc., without having to set the 12 hour alarm.

On this new watch, there is both an analog face and a digital display as well. I had hoped that they would be synchronized with each other. However, there is no connection between the two parts. The time must be set twice, once for analog using the crown, and once for digital using the buttons, and they do not necessarily stay in sync. I had hoped that you would use the crown to set both the analog and digital times at the same time. Also, the alarm is only settable on the digital part, using the buttons. The procedure for setting the digital alarm is hard to remember how to do, since I dont do it every day. I also miss the "under 1 hour" alarm feature from my old Timex.

The Expedition is dependable, affordable and attractive

Timex makes great watches. I have had this watch for about five years (it was a replacement for the Timex I had for the ten years previously), and I have always been able to count on it. Reliability is an important and often underemphasized aspect of watch quality. This watch has been dropped, stepped on, kicked, knocked on walls, hit with cans of soup, showered with, swam with, washed, and chewed on by dogs, but not only have I not destroyed it, I havent even been able to successfully scratch it. I may have been either incredibly lucky or the watch gods may be favoring me, but this is the experience I have had with all three timex watches I have owned. On top of that the watch is also very attractive and quite inexpensive for it. The timepiece itself runs very well and I never need to adjust the time except when the watch outlasts another battery. The analog clock is clear and precise, easy to read at night. The digital section has all the standards availale on Timex: 2 Times, Date, Alarm, Timer and Chronometer. The Indiglo light is so much better than the old microscopic light bulb watches used to have to see in the dark with. There is no better watch for this amount of money.
