 Casio Men's MDV102-1AV Sea Analog Illuminator Dual LED Dive Watch By: Casio Average Rating: 4.5 Total Reviews: 168 More Information Cheaper made Casio product  On: 2010-06-16The thin band is cheaply made, size is misleading, and overall quality is just lacking to be a Casio product. It was hard to adjust the rotating ring due to its design and small size, if you are a big guy with big hands like me. This watch is just a big disappointment. Although the light is a nice design feature I would say overall that this is a cheap watch, not built for the long haul. I would say spend the extra few bucks and buy something like/similar to the Casio Mens AMW320D-9EV Ana-Digi Alarm Chronograph Dive Watch, I have owned one of these for many years. This watch has a larger face, easier to adjust ring, much better and thicker made band, and just overall is much better quality. I have had the Casio Mens AMW320D-9EV Ana-Digi Alarm Chronograph Dive Watch for over six years now with only battery and strap replacement and it is still working great. Best dive watch for the money  On: 2010-06-15I have owned this watch for about a year now, and have over 70 dives on it-fresh and salt water down to 100 feet. It has performed flawlessly. I wear it now as my only watch, and for the money, it cant be beat. I just wash it off when I get out of salt water, and it keeps on working. The illumination features works in poor vis and deeper depths. If I ever break or lose this, Ill replace it with the another of the same type. What's not to love? On: 2010-06-09I thought I was going to be temporarily relocating for work, so I decided to get myself a watch for daily wear that wasnt as dressy as my current Kenneth Cole one. When I got this watch in the mail (very quickly), I took it out and it looks exactly like the pictures indicate. I tried it on, and felt that it was extremely stylish - Im a picky guy. I was concerned about the band, but have not had any issues unlike many other customers. I like the ability to turn the topring, which I didnt find difficult. The marker at the 12, the offset date and the marlin make this watch look like its more expensive than it is (always a plus). I have not worn this watch for swimming, diving or in the shower yet- but Im confident in its abilities to withstand the water. If I have any issues, Ill edit this review in a heartbeat. Basically- to get a functional and stylish watch for $50... always a good deal. Watch Band Issue On: 2010-05-17I read the reviews and ordered the watch along with 2 of the replacement bands mentioned in other customer reviews. First of all, the stock band is fine...I do not feel tortured by it...I have even slept with it on 3 times. It feels like all my other G-Shock watches. This may be because I have a relatively small wrist, and this is one of the few watches that fit me out of the box...without adjustment or replacement. Having the band tightened down where the watch does not move back and forth on your arm, will cause the band to bother you. However, you do not have to wear it so loose on your arm as to have it drop to your wrist every time you put your arm at your side...for it to be comfortable. My suggestion...order the watch first...wear it a few days...then see if you want to replace the band. Note that the replacement bands are squared at the watch end, and the Casio bands conform to the watch casing, providing a very clean look. By the way...the watch itself is wonderful! Great Watch....Horrible Band On: 2010-05-06Buy this watch. Its worth the money. Unfortunately it comes with a band that, when worn, could qualify as torture. So buy the "Seiko Rubber Watch Band Original 22mm for Divers Model" band here at Amazon. In combination these two items still constitute a great deal for the money. Watch = 9.5 - Band = 0 On: 2010-04-19I bought this watch based on the reviews I read on Amazon. I wanted an everyday beater, because its so inexpensive I can afford to buy a replacement if I destroy it (unlike my other watches). I also, like several other reviewers here, agree the actual product is much better looking in person than in the pictures. I find it hard to believe this is a sub-$100 watch. The timekeepings is accurate, the LEDs are very bright, setting the time/date was very easy, I didnt need to look at the instruction booklet. The Casio (mystery substance) band however, sucks. Im keeping it as a back-up, but I highly recommend the Modena 22mm rubber strap several other reviewers have mentioned here. Amazon offers this watch, and this Modena band, as a bundled purchase. I wore the watch for two days, then switched out the Casio band for the Modena...a GINORMOUS difference!!! The Modena band classes this watch up, its comfortable and it has a sturdy, secure stainless steel deployment clasp in place of a buckle. All of my expensive watches have bands with deployment clasps. I gave five stars for the watch, because that is what I was buying, after all. Bands can be changed on a whim. This is a great watch! It looks great and the only con about this watch is the band. The band is uncomfortable out of the water and after you been in the ocean especially, the skin begins to soften and the band really seems to dig into your wrist. I had my band replaced the minute I got the watch for $20.00 at Sears with a silicone rubber band. I would recommend this watch to amateur divers/swimmers out there. Thank you Amazon for making the sale efficient, simple and timely. Vishal R. Love the watch....hate the band. On: 2010-04-04I bought this watch about 3-4 months ago and it is great. The light lights up my hallway in the middle of the night like a flashlight. It really is like having a flashlight with you at all times. Very nice if you ask me. The only thing that bothers me about this watch is the band. The body of the watch is kind of bulky yet the band is kind of narrow. Doesnt really match. The band should be considerably wider. Not to mention the fact that the end of the band constantly pops free of the loop that is supposed to hold it down. I was actually online shopping for a new band when I decided to swing on through Amazon and write this review. If anyone has this watch and replaced the band with something else I would love to hear which band you chose. I would buy it again though.....great value! Good watch for the price. On: 2010-04-04My wife got me this watch on sale at a department store for less than the Amazon price. I needed a everyday "beater" watch and this fit the bill. As another reviewer said, the styling is a lot like an Omega Seamaster Divers watch. It keeps good time and the dual LED illumination is very bright; very, very, bright. It has a screw down crown, a uni-directional bezel. It is supposedly water resistant to 200 meters, so swimming and snorkeling should be no problem. The large face is very clear and easy to read. For less than $60.00, I really have no complaints, well, except for two. First, the lume on the dial and hands is very poor quality, but this is not an issue because of the LED illumination. Second, the band. I have a G-shock that I wear quite a bit and I am used to Casio resin bands but the band on this watch is horrible. I replaced it almost immediately with the 22mm MODENA Light Pattern Italian Rubber Watch Band w/ Deployant / Deployment Buckle / Clasp. It is a much better band, very comfortable and much better looking than the Casio band. That is the only reason that I havent given the watch five stars. Great Time Piece On: 2010-03-31I bought this watch because i needed a divers watch and this one seemed to offered the best features for its great price. The 2 LEDs make it extremely easy to see the hands at night. The lume on the watch could have been a little better, it doesnt seem to be able to hold a charge for long. Great value for the price! On: 2010-02-03This just arrived in the mail for me today. I immediately took it out of the box to set and begin wearing it. My first impression is that its got a great weight and looks a lot "richer" than what it costs. I own 10+ watches from different manufacturers (Tissot, Orient, Victorinox, Timex, Suunto, Citizen, etc) and the weight of this watch is really better than others it might be compared with. My Citizen Echo Drive BM8180 (also purchased from Amazon) is more expensive but feels markedly less substantial than this watch. The finish on the watch looks top notch. The strap lines right up with the lugs of the watch and sits nicely against the bezel. The bezel itself also turns easily but not cheaply. For a $50 price point, Im amazed at the apparent quality of the bezel! The Super Illuminator function is pretty fantastic. When the top crown is pressed the dual LEDs come on and then remain on for 3 seconds after letting the pusher go. Nice feature. The screw down crown is also a really great feature for increasing water resistance. There are only a couple points of concern for me. These are minor, but being a watch snob, they definitely stand out. The first is the second hand. As others have mentioned its slightly off from the indices on the face while ticking. The second concern is setting the watch. When the minute hand is lined up with your upcoming minute and you push the crown in at the 00 mark, the mechanism seems to kick the minute hand in reverse by about 1/4 minute. Easily overcome by forward setting the minute hand, but it took a little getting used to. Also, you need to push the crown in with a fair bit of force. It feels a little spongy until it clicks in. Finally, again as others have noted, the band is the most rigid Ive ever encountered. Ill give it a week or so to see how it goes, but Im already thinking about a replacement band or NATO. Overall first impression, tremendous value for the price! Definitely worth more than what I paid. Do yourself a favor and pick one of these up. Pros: 1. Weight 2. Finish 3. Appearance 4. Very rigid, uncomfortable band. Surprisingly good On: 2010-02-02This watch is worth every penny you pay for it. It keeps track of time well, the LEDs at the 12 and 6 positions are a great idea and the watch is very easy to read in any light condition. Its a bit on the small side when compared to other dive watches. I substituted the original plastic band which I found uncomfortable with a Zulu band and now the watch sits well and comfortably on my wrist. The only criticism I have is that the watch is way too shiny, something that doesnt show in the online photos. I think it would have looked better if it were more subdued or even if it had a sandblasted finish. The strap doesnt look good On: 2010-02-01The dual led is very bright like head lights, and the strap is so old fashioned.not so cool. Great Watch! On: 2010-02-01Bought this watch for my husband for Christmas. He loves watches and is pretty picky about them. He loves this watch! He loves the size of the face and the band ( I was a little concerned that the band would be too stiff. But it wasnt at all!) I thought this was a very masculine and athletic-looking watch and that proved to be true. We are very pleased with this purchase. The dial is really easy to read: white markers contrast really well with the black dial, also it has s a white LED both at 12 oclock and 6 oclock - so its easy to see in low light conditions too. a really classy watch On: 2010-01-30This watch is very nice, with the brightest light I have encountered in any watch. I replaced the very stiff resin watchband with a leather one from WalMart and it is comfortable as well as functional. Highly recommended. Excellent value in a watch On: 2010-01-17If you are looking for good-looking water sport watch for a great price, this is it. I have had mine about a year with no issues. I think it looks great, and it can take plenty of abuse. I swapped-out the band for a Maratec zulu watch strap. The only thing I would change about this watch would be the thickness. With a dress work shirt on it can be difficult to get it out from under the cuff to check the time. But most of the time it is not an issue. Highly recommended. nicely made watch, but... On: 2010-01-15This watch rocks, but after 2 days of normal wearing, I found some scratches on the surface of the watch which is not normal for a "mineral finished surface". I found it kind of confusing as my other cheap watches are having even more durable surfaces than this watch (just glass surfaces). Yes, the band is one of the main downside: hard to wear, uncomfortable, and takes quite a time to dry once wet. The LEDs are great, I start using them as a handy flash light :) To conclude, this watch worth every penny youve paid for, Ill try it when Im out at the beach. Can't beat the Price On: 2010-01-11It is hard to find a better looking watch with such a solid construction for a similar price. You simply cant beat the price. Band feels great but will have to see if needs to replaced. Very 007 Great for the money On: 2009-12-08I have had a different Casio style dive watch for about 15 years now (three different ones as they needed replacing). You know the one with with the LCD display at the bottom - I have had a gold faced one and several black faced ones. I love that watch. But I kept breaking them. The band would fall off the pins and it would happen only when I was standing over concrete. POW! The hands would come off the axle. As my eyes haves started to get worse because of age, I found that I didnt really need the digital display anymore - too small. Besides, everyone has that watch now. So I started looking for a different watch. I came across this watch and really like the face. As others have mentioned, it has its failings. The crystal is beveled outwards which makes it prone to scratching. The crowns arent protected by the casing like my other Casio. The bezel is difficult to turn and requires my finger nail to turn it. I wish the face was dark black vs the darker shade of gray that it is. Also, the date is difficult for ME to read unless I have my glasses on. With all that said, it is a handsome watch and it is keeping great time. I have had more people comment about it than my previous Casio - probably because it just isnt that common of a watch. Havent had any problems with it but I have only had it for about a month. But with all the stuff I would change if I was making the watch, I quite childishly find myself looking to see what time it is even when I already know. I really like the look of this watch. Fantastic watch! On: 2009-12-03I got for this watch for thanksgiving, almost waited for a week to arrive. A very elegant and good looking watch. I especially love the black dial. It is well constructed with quality materials and workmanship. I use it as an everyday watch and love it. Water resisitant, but dont wear it while having a bath or doing the dishes. The dual LED acts a flash-light in dark places and to find things inside a car while in motion. I am glad I got this watch at Amazon, instead of searching it in a store. There have been several complaints about the strap etc. The fact being that the strap is good and very comfortable. It is made out of hard rubber and feels soft and sturdy. The strap is a bit hard but my husband has no problem with it. Great Watch! On: 2009-12-01I bought this watch to replace a Seiko "Orange Monster" that got damaged. The Seiko was a great watch and the orange face was extremely eye-catching. However, I love this Casio, especially at 1/5 of the price of the Seiko! It looks sharp, runs well and was a great purchase. I originally considered buying a new band based on other reviews, but ultimately decided to wait and see how it turned out. Im glad I did - the band was slightly uncomfortable for the first week or so but feels great now is not an issue. Highly recommend this watch. So-So On: 2009-11-26If youre looking for a basic diving watch, then this isnt a bad choice. Otherwise, go with Seiko/Citizen or any of the other "diving" brands. The rubber strap has a very "cheap" feel to it. The lighting system is good but seems cheesy to someone whos used to Super Lum or even Tritium light source. The glass reflects a lot as well. I noticed that the quartz movement of the "second" hand doesnt line up with the actual markers. For a watch person like myself, this is bothersome. Like I said in the beginning, its a decent watch for the casual user but for a diving watch Id look for something that is rated ISO6425. On: 2009-11-02I own a few more expensive watches so I wanted an every-dayer. This is far more spectacular in person. Solid build and quality. Have owned it for a few months and banged it a bit, no scratches and great timing, to the marker- I was amazed due to the price. The precision is on point. I have gone swimming & fishing, worked on a few cars, hiked, hand washed dirty laundry, u name it and exposed it to gasoline and oil, no issues. Note, I replaced the band with a Seiko, well worth it due to the uncomfortable feel of the stock band- the one it comes with, thats the only drawback. But for the price, no question. I have to agree...it's a great bargain watch with a lousy strap On: 2009-10-30I have to agree with the other boys...this CASIO is a great bargain watch with a stiff, lousy strap. However, change the strap for a silicone one, and you have a $200 dive watch that you can live life in and not worry about ruining. First off, it looks great on the wrist. I leave it on at the amusement park, while washing the car, and the pool/beach. If you are in or near reading glasses range, its very readable, and the light is great at the movies, et al. When yo have kids, it gets whacked on the crystal a lot, but so far, no scratches. You could spend a lot more, but why bother? Great deal! On: 2009-10-26I bought this because i love this kind of watches and also because i hadnt had any Casio watch for years. Great choice! Keeps good time and its beautiful. 200m so its ok to use it in water just be careful not to use the light button underwater. Dont know if anyone used this below water but other than this light button, should be ok. Speaking of light, this has two leds that can illuminate a keyhole or the next few steps in a staircase, its that bright and strong!!! Great! I gave this watch to my son and he loves it! The only complain i have is the rubber/plastic band, its not very comfortable and too hard, more than my dive watches! ( these are hard enough but not this hard,you can buy a different band ). Also, you have the option to buy this model with a stainless steel band but it will be heavier. The screw down crown is a good feature in this kind of watch. As Advertised On: 2009-10-26This watch was as described. I had checked reviews before I ordered. There were comments onthe band being stiff. They were correct. I looked at an alternative band which I will probably end up buying. I love the LED light feature and brightness. Also the lock down setting knob. 35+ years of wearing Divers Watches On: 2009-10-16Well nobody makes my ideal divers watch! Which would be an automatic(self-winding) , mechanical day/date display, and with battery for illumination/indiglo. That way Id probably get 5-10 years between battery changes and have the advantage of being able to tell the time in movie theatres, 3AM in bed,etc. That would be perfect but it doesnt exist. Have been using G-shocks for many years and between frequent battery failures(best to buy a new watch), watch band failure(best to buy a new watch), and just sometimes the internal computer going screwy;I even tried the ones with a 10 year battery and they were no better. I figured my avg. cost per year for these was running too high and it was time for a change. I miss the rotating bezel type of watches and these cheaper electric rotating bezel dive watches have some disavantages over more expensive ones. The crown on this one is above the bezel; open to scratching , typical on this level of watch. It could be better at least ....flush with bezel(Timex Expedition Dive Style Watch). It has great illumination which makes me worry about battery life. I surf am left handed(wear the watch on right arm) so having the light button on the r.h.s is a bit of a negative due to the way I store wax bits while inside my wetsuit which normally presses against the crown and light button on other dive watches, potentially draining my battery. I find the date display adequate, it would be nice to have a crown magnifier on a flat crown recessed below the bezel. A noted negative is that the rotating bezel only turns counter clockwise. I noted no other negatives. The band is typical & comfortable, as opposed to hard and uncomfortable. I purchase Fall 2009 so I obviously cant comment on reliabilty and battery life yet, so Ill give it 4 stars at the moment.Best value in its price range! Bad light system On: 2009-10-10The rest of the watch seemed very nice, the stainless steel all over is sharp, the bezel turned ok, kinda hard to turn. ( when your hands are wet you need to use finger nails on the coin edge for grip) But this is ok because it means the bezel wont move on you by accident. Screw down crown and caseback felt like nice quality.. The lights are the main problem, Far too bright. If they used indiglo I would give this 4 or 5 stars. I drive a semi truck and I use my watch to check the time at night. This watch would blind me for 10min after I checked it so I had to return it for one with the standard indiglo/ illuminator style light. Besides the light its fine tiz a manly watch! On: 2009-10-05Ive just had this watch for a couple of days, so I cant really speak for its accuracy at this point, but otherwise it really is a rather impressive piece for around $50. This is a thick solidly made watch with a rather heavy feel to it, and the 2 LED super illuminator feature is a pretty cool alternative to the Timex indiglo, although LEDs would probably pull a little more drain on the battery over time. I also would like to agree with all the other reviews stating what a piece of cheap plastic the band that comes with the watch is. I replaced the one on mine as soon as I had a chance. Big improvement. Over all though this is a nice solid built "Manly" looking watch whether your "diving" or not. Excellent On: 2009-10-01Looks like a much more expensive watch. Feels solid and nice classic design with a creative flair (Marlin, angled date, second hand). The LED light lights up the face better than any other watch I have seen. Unlike some other reviewers, I do like the band. Recommended without hesitation. Love this watch! On: 2009-09-29I just picked up one of these as a beater for the weekends and for travel, but I find it perfectly usable as a watch for the office as well. After reading all the reviews I decided to replace the band with this one: Hadley-Roma Mens 22-mm Black Genuine Leather Watch Strap #MSM906RA-220 (available from Amazon.com http://amzn.com/B002EEP5WI ) and I think it looks and feels great, especially for the extremely reasonable price. Highly recommended. Good watch for the money On: 2009-09-18Ive had the watch a few weeks, bought for weekend/casual wear. Unlike some other reviewers I have not found the standard band to be painful or intrusive -- not a problem for me. My wrist is kind of in between holes so its either snug or a little loose on me, but manaageable. Love the bright LED light; clean face design, and moveable dial. Recommended. great quality watch for the price On: 2009-09-15not to be overkill, here are the essentials. Beautiful timepiece, as others stated, much more so in person. You would think, as others have, that this is a $100 or more watch comparable to the Citizen and Seiko diver watches I also wanted. But I needed an everyday watch to wear as opposed to my other "nicer" timepieces. This watch feels sturdy, solid and well built, despite being made in China, guess they hold their factories to high standards. A few quick tips as others said, buy the watch repair tool to remove the band and buy the Seiko 22mm band. It fits nicely, but use the old pins for a better fit. The Seiko divers band is much much more comfortable and nicer in my opinion. Great watch, would buy again in a heartbeat. Many compliments on the first day. Great for the price! On: 2009-08-30Ive had this watch for only two months but Im happy with my purchase. My previous one also was a Casio that I got in 1991, still going strong! Thats a long time! Hopefully this one will perform the same. The only thing that I would say is not so good is that in this model the glass is bulgy so it scratches easily. The rest is fine. When I bought it all CASIO products had free 2-day shipping so it was great. Great value for the money On: 2009-08-26This watch is a 200 m dive watch with a real unidirectional bezel. Very easy to read, beautiful to look at and the other reviews are right: The two LEDs are stunningly bright. You will NEVER have a problem reading this in the dark. It is an exceptional time piece and a ridiculous value. The ratchet works very well, the screw down crown is as smooth as you would expect from a very high end watch. This could easily be priced for a few hundred and would be worth it except for one massive flaw: The band is beyond BAD. It may be one of the great engineering failures of the modern era. It is unbearably stiff and has been designed to dig into your wrist like some kind of medieval torture device. Do not buy this watch unless you buy a replacement strap right up front. I did as a previous review suggested and got the Modena 22mm rubber strap with deployment clasp. I took it out of the box and inside of ten minutes the soft rubber it is made with had begun to collect dust and debris... Which it hung on to with amazing tenacity! On top of that, the clasp is flimsy and poorly made. I tossed that into the can along with the original band. I next ordered a 22mm Seiko divers band also from Amzaon. Success at last! A tad stiff but a nice tight fit for the watch. Simple black with a standard buckle. Looks like it was the original strap and is very comfortable. I bought it as a cheap substitute to wear while my other watch was being repaired. I like it so much Im still wearing it. It is just the right weight, i.e. heavy enough to feel like a real watch but not too heavy as to be uncomfortable. It fits nicely and is very durable. I wore it constantly on a two week trip to Europe, including in swimming pools, and it has not a single scratch. It is very uncomfortable, especially at night when you may have your hands under the covers or sleeping on your arm. The band really digs into your wrist. It isnt so much that the band is made out of hard materials, as it is that the under side of the band isnt smooth. It has really sharp and deep ridges in it. Im really bummed because this is one of the best and toughest looking dive watches on the market. Ive had dive watches my whole life, and as far as looks, feel, and build quality goes, this watch is great. That being said, I am not a diver, and the backlight is way to bright for me as well. Probably perfect if you are truly going to use it as a diving watch (as it is intended!) and not just an everyday watch like me. I turned the backlight on early in the morning in bed, and it nearly blinded me! It is not a soft glow like the timex indiglow. Instead it is 2 bright LED lights that are basically uncovered. Again, watch is perfect for temp. diving, but not for everyday wearing, unless you have skin of leather. Super looking watch at a great price. I ended up buying another timex dive watch with an orange face, and while it is much more confortable and has great looks, it has cheaper black paint on the face, and it is already coming off after a month. The Casio is made of solid metal face that is nice and heavy duty, so I think it will be much more scratch resistant. Great watch, one small error in the description On: 2009-06-20this is a great looking watch, seems to function correctly and accurately, and such a good deal at the price. i concur with other positive reviews about this watch. the one minor problem i found was with the product description. the watch does not house a 22mm band, but actually more like a 20mm. i didnt like the cheep-o band so got a better one online. however, the 22mm doesnt fit. id suggest anyone who is planning on doing the same go for 20mm, youll be much happier and itll look as if it belongs perfectly. Casio Men's Sea Analog Illuminator Dive Watch On: 2009-04-04We bought this watch for our boys to use for diving. They have since used it as an everyday watch as well. It worked very well for diving. They could see underwater what they needed to because of the illumination capabilities. The numbers and digits were big enough to see easily. We also liked that it had a movable bezel so that they could set it to the time they entered the water and keep track of how long they were diving - an "old fashioned" backup to the computers. They like it for everyday use as it is not that heavy a watch. I gave it a "4" only because the watch is still new, it has only been used on 6 dives, but it feels like a very sturdy watch that will last them a while. The band is pretty sturdy as well. One son did complain that the band dug into his arm a bit, but I think that should soften with time. Nice Solid Watch On: 2009-04-03This casio watch is a good buy for the price. I paid Just under $50.00 for it. It has the quality and appearance of a much more expensive watch. I find the watch band to be comfortable and the functions of the dive watch are easy to use. It reminds me of the Rolex GMT dive watch which I have owned in the past. Its style is almost identical. I have had it almost two months now and it has kept perfect time. Great "James Bond" watch On: 2009-04-02As someone else commented, this watch is reminiscent of the Omega "Planet Ocean" watch, as worn by Daniel Craig in the latest James Bond film. I wouldnt call it a knockoff, it just has a similar style to it. For under $50, its a solid, attractive, and classically masculine watch, and definitely fills the role I purchased it for. It even features a Bond style gadget! The illuminator button on the top right activates (2) very bright LED lights behind the 12 and 6 positions... the LEDs stay lit for a couple seconds and are very bright white.... you could easily use this watch as a flashlight in a dark room. The watch also features a screw down crown, which I think is a nice high-end feature for such an inexpensive timepiece. Unlike almost every other review here, I had no problems at all with the strap... Mine is very soft and comfortable. Not sure if Casio changed it, or if I just have different tastes, but really, I find the watch a pleasure to wear as is. Sure, this watch is no Omega or Rolex, but for the money, I think its a solid, attractive, and functional piece, that packs a hell of a lot of style into an affordable package. I own a couple of more expensive dive watches and was looking for a cheaper version to wear for yard work to not have to worry about any scratches it may pick up, this one does the trick. For $50 it is a very solid watch. I would agree with other reviewers that the strap is the weak point of this watch, if I were planning on wearing this often I would definitely want to change it but for occasional use it will do just fine. From a distance it definitely looks great, up close I would not agree with reviews that make it sound like it compares to the likes of a luxury watch. The bezel is busy with information and the curved glass makes it appear to me that the face is sunken down into the watch. The pictures here make it appear that the face is jet black with contrasting white text, minute and hour markers that really pop. In reality the face is more a very dark grey and the appearance is more bland and less contrasting. However, I didnt buy this expecting another Submariner and I am very happy with the watch. The bezel action feels very solid and it has kept very accurate time so far. The only other dissapointment I have is the short lasting luminosity of the dial, however the light is so powerful this is really a non-issue. You wont find better for $50! Casio watch On: 2009-03-18Received this watch recently and so far am impressed. The important facts are: 1) It looks much nicer in real life, than the pictures here show. It looks very classy and just looks great. 2) The LED light is outstanding. I dont know how much it will affect battery life though. Shouldnt be too much since its an LED. 3) The band it came with is thick rubber (like a gshock) and I am a little disappointed in its feel. Ill probably try to find a better band. Despite the band, I still gave it a 5 star because the watch itself is gorgeous and bands can be replaced easily enough. BTW, this could be a great (and cheap) gift too. I totally agree the band is terrible. I wore it one day and promptly ordered a silicone band for it. It is much more comfortable and being its a "straight" band, it allows you to turn the bezel much easier than with the original band. I already have put a small nick in the domed crystal, a recessed flat crystal would be better. I like the look of the watch. It keeps good time and the two LED lights are really bright as stated in other reviews. Easy to see at night. I bought it along with a "dressier" Casio Mens Slide Rule Bezel Analog Chronograph Aviator Watch #MTP4500D-1AV and this one is definitely my favorite. Both are great values and serve different purposes, but I find myself wearing the "divers" watch more often (even in more formal situations). Great overall size and "feel" and the styling (with the black rotating dial) is reminiscent of much more expensive timepieces. Other reviewers have "knocked" the rubber band, but I have no problem with it. I like the way it is molded to fit right up against the dial and I dont think the watch would look as good with an aftermarket band. I have found it to be comfortable and easily adjustable. Of course you already know this by now. the bezel rotates in one direction only, i personally prefer a bi-directional..but its ok. the quality seems good on the racheting action of the bezel. there really isnt any "play" in the gearing of it. its very tight. The other reviewer was right, its so tight that spinning it with your fingerpads is hard at times...however i do it easilly because i grip it the right way. very good quality precision like. the mineral crystal is a beautiful dome, i personally prefer this type of crystal, not only for looks and class, but they tend to hold up even better against shock. its science really just research having a collision with a dome vs a flat ppiece of glass...so dome faces are TOP NOTCH IN MY BOOK I use the bezel as a stopwatch, and i use it at least 3 times per day. Of course my concern is wearing it out...but i would assume that it is designed to be used a lot.it doesnt feel like its going to wear out, and i have seen cheap watches go years and years...this one should last and last and last...however...i suppose a watch shop could also repair such a simple thing as a rotating bezel anyway. the luminescent hands and markers seem to hold their glow, once your eyes adjust im sure you will be able to see the time all through the night with these. the blue markers and green hands certainly does stand out. (however, once your eyes adjust and the light of the markers dies down a bit..it will all look green) but if your still having trouble i must say the 2 LEDs on this watch make seeing the time in any condition an easy task. they are BRIGHT....FLASHLIGHT BRIGHT...im NOT kidding with you. TH BAND is my big complaint..i will be upgrading it soon to a 22mm silicone band (also on amazon) because the factory band is VERY stiff,..and...in all actuality..it is uncomfortable..it seems durable..but still..it rubs your skin the wrong way (no pun intended) its also the type of material that cracks over time.i just glanced down and am seeing quite a few red marks on each side of my wrist because of this band. ALSO take note that i put the band on loose not tight to try to avoid this from happening. ....looks like im going to need that new band soon.. THis watch looks beautiful, you would NEVER be able to tell it was 49.99 shipped.. There is a youtube video of a review of this watch, also a video of a guy who modded this watch with a sapphire crystal. I called my local watch shop and they told me it would run about 100 bux, but they would put a sapphire crystal in it. Believe it or not it might be worth it...this watch is THAT nice. All in all...its extreme value! im happy with it.. if anything happens to it ill make an update later on as thisis day one. so far..so great. UPDATE:11-17-08 this watch is extremely comfortable with this new silicone band.. this watch is worth far more what they are charging for it.. For the $ a Great Deal! On: 2008-11-03I am a collector of high end watches. My watches are shall we say in a different class then this watch. But as I say this I also like to buy watches that I appreciate the way they look. This watch caught my eye as a functional all around watch. It was inexpensive and seems to be a fairly good watch for the money. I have no regrets buying this one, and if I was asked about an inexpensive good watch, this one would go in my book! If you are looking for a decent looking and a watch that so far, seems to be of quality I would say this is a great deal! The illumination is great too, I didnt know that it had that as a function, and I accidently hit the button and to my surprise it lit up quite a bit. Do yourself a favor and pick up one of these, it is a great deal and looks pretty good too! elegant and urban divers watch On: 2008-10-28I have selected this divers watch because it has all the features you need for a divers watch, it is indeed used for scuba. A good feature is the illumination which allows you to see better under water. Next that the case is also elegant and urban, it is ok to weare. The large panel, a bit stiff strap but good functionality including the moving bezel. My New Favorite Watch On: 2008-10-08I bought this watch in Jun 08 and have worn it every day since. I think its a great looking watch that goes great with both business casual or everyday casual. My favorite feature is that fantastic LED brightness. I travel quite a bit and use the watch to find my way around in a dark hotel room. It works amazingly well for that. I replaced a Timex with indiglo that was not nearly as bright, and not as good looking or seemingly well made as this watch. I couldnt be happier with my purchase. For any occassion On: 2008-10-06A great watch, I feel comfortable wearing it when I work out, or if I am dressed up. Also easy to use. Great for the price On: 2008-09-18I own an automatic Tag Heuer Aquaracer and a quartz Aquaracer. If you set this watch next to them you would never know that it cost over a thousand dollars less. And it keeps great time. Great bargain. Good watch On: 2008-08-29I love this watch. Its exactly what I needed for every day use. It doesnt have a lot of extras (which I like) but is good in the pool, for working out and just all around daily wear. Nice watch, made in China not Japan On: 2008-07-28Ive owned a lot of Casio watches. All my older (all still working) Casio watches were made in Japan. This is the first Casio Ive owned made in China, hello globalization. It is a nice watch, not as big as I had thought it would be, but a nice size. A tad smaller than the #AMW320D-9EV, but very nice looking. The band is a bit small and not overly comfortable. The light (or two rather, one LED is at 12 oclock and the other at 6) is very very bright. Say goodbye to your night vision. Maybe they should have made the LEDs red rather than white. The luminousity is pretty good and the watch is nice. Happy with it. Great watch at good prce On: 2008-07-28I bought this watch from justcalculaters.com a couple of weeks ago because of their price, and recieved it in only 2 days. The watch is large but not to big. It seems to be a very well made watch, and has some weight to it.And the LED light that it puts out is enough to get your key in a lock on a dark night. The only issue i have is that the band is a bit uncomfortable, but i replaced the band with a nice nylon one and now it feels just right. I can tell this is going to be a work horse for everyday were. Additionaly it is a very attractive watch with a look and feel of a much more expensive unit. I highly recommend this watch, and even recommend where i bought it. Best all-around On: 2008-07-24Pros: Rotating top-ring, 200m water resistent, LED lighting. luminescent paint is two colors: green for hands, blue for hour markers. Screw-down crown, screw-down caseback (usually found on higher end divers watches). Cons: Crystal "bulges" outward (prone to scratching), the inset luminescent marker on the topring does not glow very brightly/hard to see in dim lighting. Dial is not completely black, but more of a dark gray (Topring is completely black). Uncomfortable strap. Topring is hard to turn with fingerpads - I have to use my nail, especially underwater. Ive been windsurfing and sailing with this watch and its been great. If you want a basic, durable divers watch, look no further. At this price, this is the one to beat. Casio sport watch - the best. On: 2008-06-21Watch is the perfect match for an outdoor person. Large face, lights up, durable band all the best features in an analog watch. A dive watch that's tough to beat at this price point On: 2008-05-29This is a fantastic little watch. Casio have definitely produced a winner in the sub-$50 segment. My Invicta & Seiko dive watches might be bit more expensive and have fancier automatic compared to the Casios quartz but they dont look as good IMO. Casio even added a touch of flair with those nice Marlin logos inside the dial and at the back. The white LEDs (activated by the knob at 2 oclock) are bonkers bright and blue/green lume is pretty good, though not as bright as the lume in some Seikos. Of all the sub-$50 watches that I own, this is by far the best. The only negative bit about the entire package is the crappy strap. It looks useless in front of the case and dial. Youd be better off replacing it with a NATO style strap for 5-odd bucks. Excellent Quality Diver's watch. On: 2008-05-26I had my eyes on this Casio Divers watch for the last few months, but Amazon.com wasnt carrying it yet. I was so glad when I saw that Amazon started selling this watch. I just got this watch a few days ago and I have not taken it off of my wrist yet. I LOVE IT!! Its very accurate and it looks just like the James Bond watch. The watch is very well built with high quality workmanship. Its also water resistant up to 200 meters. You can swim, shower and dive with this watch without worrying about water getting into it. The crown on the watch is a screw-in crown, so no water, dirt or dust can get into the watch. I also love the "Super Illuminator" light that this watch has. When you press the button thats located at the 2 oclock position, the entire face of the watch lights up and stays lit for 3 seconds. The light is very bright and as bright as a flashlight. You can also let the light to stay on just by keeping the button depressed for however long that you like. The watch is not heavy on the wrist and its very comfortable to wear. The watchband on this watch is also very comfortable and very durable. I highly recommend this watch to anybody who is looking for a durable, accurate and nice looking divers watch. Unbeatable price performance ratio On: 2008-04-21Works great. Drifts only a few seconds per month. Feels very robust and solid. Looks good and pretty expensive from a distance, as long as youre far away enough for people not to read the "CASIO" label... The light is very strong, can be used to search for stuff in darkness etc. The bezel ring comes in handy when you want to time your pasta etc. All this at a ridiculously low price! Very nice 200m water resist watch! On: 2007-09-08This is a great looking sports watch, and the light is really bright - its a white LED both at 12 oclock and 6 oclock, so it allows for nice visibility in low light. The stainless steel case is nicely polished and looks very sharp. This watch really looks more expensive than it is, and Ive had people ask about it when wearing it. Its an eye catching watch. The MDV102-1AV is 200m water resistant, which means it can handle you going swimming, snorkeling, even some diving without much problem. This watch has a screw-down crown too, which makes it even more water resistant. The only thing to watch out for is washing the dishes, hot tubbing, or showering with it - warm/hot water isnt great for watertight seals on watches. Ive heard it can weaken the seals and cause a leak. The little marlin on the watch is a great touch, and the face is very easy to read. The white markers contrast really well with the black dial, and even have a mirror-like edge to them, which makes the markers stand out even more. The offset date at 4 oclock makes it look interesting, too. My only disappointment was the band - its a hard rubbery band and not very comfortable. Thats why I took off one star from my rating. Aside from the band this watch really rocks! To solve that, I bought a Timex Expedition Adjustable 16-20mm watch strap TX977761L, Timex watchband, Fast - Wrap Expedition, 16-20mm, Black, Adjustable, Long. Its for a Timex Expedition, so it says Timex on it, but its a great velcro strap thats really easy to adjust and install on the Casio. If you decide you want to change straps like me, just pop out the strap that comes with the Casio, pull out and save the little springs, then attach the Casio (using its springs) to the Timex strap. Took 3 minutes and I love the adjustable Timex strap, its very comfortable and dries out easily when its gotten wet. I definitely recommend this watch. Its well worth the money for the water resistance, and looks really nice! |
