outstanding pathfinder     On: 2010-02-07

Another quality product from Casio. A beautifully styled watch and titanium band. Works as described in the instruction manual. Easily picks up the timing signal inside my house here in St. Louis. No more battery replacement as I had to do with my old pathfinder about every year. It was at the M charge point when delivered and charged to the H mark after sitting in a sunny window for a couple hours. Hasnt dropped back since(3 weeks) and has not been back in the window. Had to remove some links for fit and they are easily removed with a fine tipped tool to push the pins through in the direction indicated on the back of the links.
Excellent, practical     On: 2010-02-03

Should one want to have a wrist watch with incredible accuracy built in, this one fits the requirements remarkably well. It is thoroughly dependable. And whoever thought a digital watch could ever be this good looking! Though we havent much sunshine where i live, not much is needed before it reaches a full charge. If you are a mountain climber,as I am, this watch is for you. Should you be a long-distance cyclist, as I am, you need this watch. My having purchased it was a very smart move. There may never be a need for any other watch. This one really has it all.
excellent choice     On: 2010-01-27

I bought this watch as a gift. I was looking for a watch that had multiple functions, including a compass, weather and temperature. I also wanted a solar watch with atomic timekeeping. This watch had every feature! Its not a small watch. In fact the face is quite large, about the same size as the mens G-Shock watches, if not a bit bigger. However, its a lot smaller than some other watches with the same features.

The watch has a rugged appearence without being too bulky. Its very easily to operate the functions, much easier than almost any other multi-function watch Ive seen.

Overall, I like this watch and so did its recipient. I wish the watch was smaller, but its a trade off if you want all the functions this watch has.
Like it so far     On: 2010-01-01

Just got this watch, after unsuccessfully trying to get another watch of this series that was of the resin banding to fit my TOO LARGE wrist. This metal banded one is j-u-s-t- right at the farthest out adjustment.

So far the watch seems to operate fairly intuitively, I really like the atomic time function, the thing seems to be frighteningly accurate.

Also the watch is easy to read, (Believe it or not, one of my main reasons for seeking out this type of watch), and since Im in that middle age "Short Arm Disease", that is important to me.

The Compass works in s sensible manner like Id expect. The watch is very handsome and has a great feel.

Of course, Ive just got it and the most adventurous thing Ive done so far is to start smoking a Pork butt.

For the smaller wristed, you will be able to take the size of the watch down to fit a smaller wrist size.
Using This Watch Does Not Require A Graduate Degree In Programming     On: 2009-11-21

I have had the watch for several weeks. It was easy to set and has kept perfect time. It is a handsome watch and is light weight. It has a double mechanism on the watchband to prevent loss. I am pleased so far.
Outstanding Watch     On: 2009-11-14

This watch is one of the gems of the hundreds of watch models designed and produced by Casio. Its digital display is large and clear and its buttons are easily accessible. It is lighter and more compact than other Pathfinder watches and it is packed with features.

The benefit of being solar powered is not so much for the fact that you dont have to buy batteries, but more for the fact that the watch never needs to be opened (thereby reducing its waterproof integrity).

If you live in North America, Europe, Russia or Japan the atomic timekeeping feature makes timekeeping reliable and worry-free. Unfortunately users in Africa, the Middle East, Australia and remote areas of the globe will not have access to this feature. For example, the watch would/could not access a signal in the KBL (Kabul, Afghanistan) time zone.

The watch band is titanium and is of reasonably good quality, although it doesnt feel as solid as a stainless steel band (which is also heavier). Prospective buys should also purchase a cheap watch band pin remover (no more than $5) to remove or add links to the band. While this can also be done at a jeweller, it may need to be done again so given their cheap price it just makes economic sense to own one yourself.

The electroluminescent backlight works great.

The only drawback is that the alarm is not loud enough. This is common with most sealed and solar powered watches. Its not a show stopper though. I would definitely recommend this watch to someone else.

Fantastic watch     On: 2009-11-14

I originally purchased the casio paw 1300 1v with the rubber band, and ended up trading it in for this model with the titanium band. I have to tell you the titanium band is much better and it seems as though the watch fits better. All of the functions of the watch work great and accurate. As said in previous remarks you do have to take the watch off to get the exact temperature reading but other than that barometer and altimeter work fine. I was really happy with Amazons packaging and delievery service, the watch had more protective plastic around it than needed but hey it kept the watch prestine! I have nothing but good things to say for this watch. Im heading up to Big Bear tomorrow and will be using it for my hike to the peak!
Great Purchase     On: 2009-11-11

Spent a lot of time reviewing other watches, and this seemed to be the best value for the features offered - and had the best reviews. My wife bought it for me and I couldnt be more pleased. Out of the box, the compass is right on, and the altimeter is only 20 ft. off the google earth altitude for my house. Havent travelled with it yet, but Ill test it abroad next month. Despite the large size, the watch is very light and I forget Im wearing it. For those looking at Suunto or similar watches, I highly recommend looking at this model watch which has significantly better customer reviews. I really value the amazon customer reviews when I shop, so I thought Id post one myself!
Good watch, a few minor flaws     On: 2009-10-28

I have had this watch now for a year so I can write about my experience with it. I am satisfied with this watch in general. The time is super accurate. The world time function is super nice because of all the travel I do. The compass feature has come in handy a couple of times on my hunting trips so I like it. I wish it stayed on display a bit longer. I dont use the barometer function often so I cant write much about it except that the graph showing the falling and rising pressure is nice.

Now to the cons. First the thermometer is almost useless unless you take it off and let it sit away from your body for a while. I was hunting in a tree last week and the watch was indicating 80 degrees. I took it off my wrist and let it sit on a branch for about 30 minutes and the reading dropped from 80 to 40. You draw your own conclusions. Other drawbacks is that the metal body of the watch is soft and it nicks easy if you come in contact with a rough surface like concrete or brick. The metal band after a bit became full of scrathes and mars because of its softness but I did not care. You maybe able to save a few bucks and get a less featured watch if you dont need the compass function. Overall, I love it and depend on it a lot.
Casio support     On: 2009-10-23

The watch so far is OK. The Pathfinder purchase followed my purchase of a G-shock solar/radio. The G-shocks rubber protection for the watchs pushbuttons failed after two years. In changing the titanium watch bands length I found it be be difficult because of the two-piece link pins. The pin parts are very small. One small part was misplaced. After hours on the web and phone with Casio "support" I found that Casio did not have the pins or parts. They suggested that I pay $105 to get a new band.
Casio Altimeter watch paw 1300 T7V     On: 2009-09-22

Great watch for the price. My friend bought the same watch some time ago from Sears for $400. I paid only $211 with shipping.
I will use when I fly, needed to get 3 links out though to fit my wrist.

I really like this watch     On: 2009-08-25

I read several reviews about this watch and iI really wasnt sure about it. But I took a chance and ordered it. I was surprised that the quality of this watch is so good. I have owned a few Casio watches in my time and they were good, but this is the first time in a long time that I have had a chance to own this type of watch. I am very satisfied with it. I only wish they could improve the difference from when you are wearing the watch to take temp reading and the Bar seems to be off, for my area the Bar reading doesnt down far enough to when your not wearing the watch. But I love the compass, the auto alum, the fact that I can set the time according to the world setting. And the best fetcher that I truly love is the Solar charged battery. Now my wife wants a Baby-G that is the style she likes but with solar charge. But unfortunately the model she likes doesnt come with the solar option. Maybe if Casio can make this watch with the solar I would most defiantly order it. The model she likes is: Casio Womens Baby-G Gem Dial Analog Sport Watch #BGA100-8B. So Casio if you decide to offer this model with the solar power option, please let me know, [...]

Thanks
simply good     On: 2009-08-01

Hi,

i got this watch 1 year ago, and so far it is great, i am mainly using the Compass and this watch was helpful, as for the thermometer you will have as mentioned in previous comment to remove the watch from your wrist couple of minutes before getting the correct temp.

Price/Quality it is gr8
I luv this one     On: 2009-07-07

I bought this one after a lot of research. And I am so happy with this product.
All that I expected     On: 2009-06-30

I am generally happier before purchase than after purchase, but this time I am happy after purchase too. This watch is all that it is advertised to be. I have checked the alt and it is right on each time...the watch is only within +-20 feet so maybe not good for someone who needs a closer look than that. I enjoy the ease of setting to new time zones. Yes, you will have to have someone put the right number of wrist links so the watch will fit as you like it, but that is to be expected from many watches. I wanted a watch that is durable, and looks ok to wear as an every day watch and one that was not too big. This watch fits all of those criteria. I also like the quick on and off light. This watch has not disappointed me at all. if you are looking for this type of watch, stop looking and buy.
Very easy to use and very accurate when calibrated!     On: 2009-06-21

After much research between Casio and Suunto I picked this watch over the Suunto equivalent because of the latters well documented history of unreliability. While the Casio is said to have less sensor accuracy, an accurate computer that is broken has no use whatsoever. Besides, a test I did today indicates that the Casio is an accurate weather tool itself.

Anyway, this is a well made, very easy to use watch with many desirable features. I especially like the Ti band has the low stink properties of stainless without the weight. Operation is pretty straightforward if you have had experience with digital watches in general and Casios in particular. I found myself consulting the manual only to look up a few abbreviations or codes that the watch displayed while I was playing with it.

Much has been said about the Casios low accuracy and resistance to big environmental changes. Testing the compass was easy. I simply found a local map that showed me magnetic declination (the watch points to magnetic north) and compensated for that. I checked the watch against a GPS afterward and it was spot on. To test the pressure sensor I calibrated my watchs baro to the sea level corrected reading of my local weather station (KCAMURRI9, 1 mile away) and used a map to set my reference altitude. As an aside, the watch measures absolute pressure by default and so comparing it with your local weather reports, which are adjusted for sea level, without calibrating it will always give you results that are off. But on to my experiment. I tested the sensor by freezing the watch for 30 minutes to below the lowest temp the watch can measure (14 F). After this I pulled it out and set it out in my yard under the So Cal desert noon sun for 15 minutes. The final temperature was 102 F. The watch easily went through almost 100 degrees of temp change with this test. The results are the Casios barometer stayed syncd with the weather station and the altitude stayed the same also. My conclusion with this test is that the watch is accurate if you calibrate it to local parameters (and you have to do this with similar watches from other makers).
So far, so good!!!     On: 2009-06-18

I love Casio watches for about 20 years, when I fist saw the PAW1300T-7V, I decided I would try it. I needed a watch that was fairly light and easily readable. could not be better!!!
Great watch     On: 2009-06-07

Great watch. It was cheaper on Amazon than anywhere locally by about $100.
A great watch to match your outdoor life style     On: 2009-06-06

Its a great watch for the price! I have had this watch for a few months. And the solar cell has been working great, it has kept the battry constantly fully charged. I live in the Bay Area, and never had problem syncing with the atomic clock (except the first night I put it next to my iPhone, and the radio reception was completed screwed up by the cellular RF). I did notice it was unable to sync when I was traveling in Greece though (it was pretty far from the clock in Germany). I also like the look and lightweight of the titanium band. The only thing I was not too happy about was that I had to manually adjust the compass when I first got it, for some reason it was off by quite a bit (even after declination adjustment).
Great watch, not too big     On: 2009-05-26

This watch has alot of features yet isnt too bulky to jog or bike with.
Excellent Watch     On: 2009-05-05

I own two other pathfinder watches. The only problems I have with my other pathfinders have been getting the batteries changed and having them keep accurate time. As battery changes go, I have sent them away multiple times and done them myself multiple times as well. After about 4 or 5 battery changes the plastic cases tend to start stripping out as you put the screws in the back of the watches. I find that every month these watches get 30 seconds or more off, usually faster than exact time.

I was happy to see a solar version that would not require a battery change every 1 to 2 years and atomic clock auto set on the time.

The PAW1300T-7V has met all my expectations so far and I like the smaller size and nicer look of the titanium. I can now wear the same watch casual or dressed up and not look like I have a "skin diver" watch on.

The time is dead on and matches my GPS to the second.

The thermometer is worthless unless you take the watch off for 15 minutes or so to allow it to adjust to room temperature. I cant figure out why this technology on a watch doesnt allow accurate temperature while wearing the watch. This is the case with all of my pathfinders and my Lacross XG55 as well. The thermometer on my truck is accurate once you start moving even with the sun shining on it and driving on hot pavement.

The barometer is pretty accurate at least for being set in .05 increments instead of .01 increments as my Lacross XG55 does.

The altimeter is not very accurate and has to be reset on a daily basis if you want it to even be close, plus it only allows settings in 20 foot increments. It gets you pretty close if you set it often, but then my altitude can very a few hundred to a few thousand feet each day. I understand this is an issue with all watches as the method used to calculate altitude is not very accurate.

Overall one of the best watches I have owned. Looks great keeps perfect time and has a few extras to boot and the biggest thing, NO BATTERY CHANGES!
Not Accurate     On: 2009-04-24

I wanted a good outdoor watch with compass and altimeter. First off the watch came with a small scratch on the ring around the crystal. Not bad enough to make me want to return it. Not too hard to set up, but the calibration of the compass and the altitude were way off. The instruction manual was not very clear on how to reset the calibration. The buttons to move between functions did not work well.

With the above problems and the cheap look of the watch, I decided to return it.
Great features and value for the money     On: 2009-04-24

Pros: Reasonably smaller/regular size compared to other similar watches, excellent features and good looks, light weight due to Titanium wrist, comfortable wear, great for outdoors/daily use as well as for business casual/semi-formal occasions, makes you look cool, very practical and reliable, priced reasonably well. Worth buy.

Cons: Considering everything, none that I can think of.
Best Watch on the Planet     On: 2009-04-19

I own five or six watches and this is the only one I wear anymore. I dont think its too much hyperbole to say that its the best watch on the planet - for any amount of money. I suppose that if all you want is wrist bling, then maybe you should go elsewhere, but if you want features and function, this is the watch.

It synchronizes the time, it has a compass, barometer, thermometer and altimeter. I use the compass and altimeter frequently, and thats a big reason this watch is indispensible. The stopwatch is easy to access and the countdown timer is also very useful. Its lightweight - especially for how many functions it contains. There are so many cool features that its easy to forget that it never needs batteries because of the solar charging. It has an alarm and a backlight (and a handsfree backlight mode).

I travel across time zones quite often and its really convenient to be able to just switch between zones. I challenge anyone to find any watch to match up with this one. Ill buy another one of these as soon as Casio makes one with GPS and a depth gauge...
Serious Weight Error in shown Specifications     On: 2009-04-11

Casio Mens Pathfinder Multi-Band Solar Atomic Silver Watch #PAW1300T-7V is shown, in the Amazon specifications, as weighing 9.6 ounces. There was an error converting grams to oz. The true weight of the watch is 3.4 oz.

Really nice, suitable for business, casual or adventure, and should last a long time     On: 2009-04-09

Ive got a bit of a watch fetish but tend to be loyal to one watch that I wear into the ground over years. My beloved Seiko was ruined after two decades of dependable service by an inept repairman, so Ive been looking for a new everyday companion. Requirements: rugged, reliable, feature-rich, yet good-looking enough for everything ranging from outdoors activities to formal business meetings. Illumination. Dual-time capability, ideally with city-code time-zone selection. And gadgets... I love gadgets in my watch.

After a lot of semi-obsessive research including lurking here, I found what I was looking for in the titanium PAW1300T-7V. Previously Id been attracted by the features and technology of Casio Pathfinders, Suuntos, etc, but put off by their bulk, clunky plastic looks, and the difficulty of getting replacement bands as needed after a few years wear. Plus, most service technicians wont warrant the water resistance of a watch after a battery replacement, so a solar-powered movement was attractive.

The PAW1300 series is considerably slimmer than previous ABC (Altimeter-Barometer-Compass) Pathfinders and others such as Suunto, with no loss of functionality, thanks to clever design, and the titanium models solid metal band should last pretty much forever. The watchs compass display is a good example of how Casio has managed the downsizing trick: the dual, overlaid LCDs that provide a cool but bulky compass solution in other Pathfinders is replaced in the PAW1300s with a radial tick-mark in the main LCD. Same functionality, half the thickness.

Observations:

o In my West Coast house, the atomic time update works every night even though I tend to wear the watch to bed. The instruction manuals advice to leave the watch on a windowsill so the nightly shortwave radio update from WWVB can be received isnt necessary for my homes lath-and-plaster construction. It was, however, necessary in a recent hotel stay, with thick concrete walls and steel framing. No worries, though: the watch is highly accurate even if it must miss the nightly updates for some reason. Its a digital quartz watch, so you can depend on it in any circumstance. The atomic updates just provide millisecond-class icing on the cake for crazy accuracy-obsessed people like me.

o The world time feature is essential to road warriors like me. Its very nice to be able to display the local time (selected by scrolling through major city codes) as well as the time back home, simultaneously on the same screen.

o The barometer is fantastic. Its like having your own weather station on your wrist. Love the mode with the baro graph visible at all times-- great for at-a-glance weather trend estimations.

o The altimeter works well, typically accurate to 100 feet or so, but read the manual so you understand how it works, how to use it, and how ambient conditions can impact its accuracy. Since its based on barometric pressure, changes in the weather will affect its readings. In a climb or hike where you care about accuracy, take the extra few seconds to calibrate it against known waypoint elevations every once in a while. Its a ten-second process. Incidentally, the altimeter is a nice tool to evaluate airlines with. The lower the effective altitude in the cabin at cruise, the more the airline values your comfort and health.

o A review Ive seen elsewhere that complains about the band being unable to go over a wetsuit sleeve is rather annoying. First, its not a divers watch. Its not marketed or specified for diving, and frankly Id be concerned for the safety of any diver (and his companions!) who is so clueless about an essential piece of equipment. 100m water resistance is fine for swimming and snorkeling, but to repeat: its not a divers watch. And divers watches generally have widely-adjustable rubber straps rather than size-and-forget metal straps, so gripes about the band are prima facie evidence of folks to avoid diving with.

o The solar battery recharge works great. (The solar cell is cleverly configured as a decorative ring around the display that provides a contrast to the tick-markings and alphanumeric labels that rim the display.) Ive yet to see anything but maximum charge despite habitual playing with the watchs features and frequent use of the backlight.

o The compass works great too, quick and accurate. (Be sure to hold the watch level, and read the manual for greatest satisfaction.)

o Stopwatch, alarm and similar timing features generally work as expected.

o The thermometer works accurately if you leave the watch off your wrist for twenty minutes or more-- for example, next to your sleeping bag when camping so you can check the temp when you wake up. Its purpose really isnt to measure ambient conditions but to compensate the calibration of the pressure sensor, a tiny piezoresistive silicon element about the size of a grain of salt if you were to dig into the triple-sensor assembly. Piezoresistive sensors measure strain, such as the strain on a diaphragm due to air-pressure. But they have a thermal dependence, so the thermometer is mostly intended to monitor the watchs temperature on your wrist rather than the ambient air, and having it available as a readout is a bonus. If ambient temperature is important to you, take the watch off for a while.

o The button-activated backlights duration is a bit brief, but made up for by the ability to trigger the backlight automatically just by tilting your wrist. This feature is easily enabled and disabled, too. I do wish the illumination button had a little pip or something on it to make it easier to locate in the dark. And a two-second illumination option, as found on other Casios, would be nice to have... but I suspect this was omitted as an engineering choice favoring battery life. Shrug.

o The buttons are easy to work and sensibly laid out.

o Comfort: excellent. The construction and materials are top-notch, with a nice finishing touches. Its a really good-looking watch, and not comically huge like most in this class. It has no trouble sliding under a shirt cuff... but youll want it out, both for best solar charging and maybe, lets face it, to show it off just a little. Its a head-turner.

o The band uses an uncommon pin arrangement; be sure whoever sizes it to your wrist knows what theyre doing. I suspect folks posting an occasional review here or there who have complained about pins falling out are the victims of clueless technicians who are unfamiliar with this type of pin-and-sleeve arrangement, also used by Seiko on some of its models.

o There are other clever engineering tricks that presumably aim to maximize life of a thinned battery. The display, for example, will go blank in the dark, then automagically come back on instantly if the room lights come on (and of course if you press the illumination button). You have to be quick to catch it blanked!

All in all, Id give the watch a 10 out of 10. Nice work, Casio. The PAW1300 series is a world-class accomplishment.
Good Watch!     On: 2009-03-25

I purchased this watch in February after extensive research and reading of reviews, and have worn it every day since. Overall, I am very pleased. I dont use all the features (e.g., altimeter), but its nice to have the option and extra gadgets. Casio - why not add in the moon phase feature while youre at it! My wifes a 4th grade teacher and said that the moon phase gadget would be a nice feature to have so that she could anticipate the full moon and be prepared for her kids to be a bit more unruly.

Pros: Titanium band makes is acceptable to wear with a shirt and tie; compass is very accurate; having multiple alarms is great; being able to show two time zones on the same display is VERY useful. The barometer readings are fairly accurate, but obviously are effected when youre going outdoors to indoors. But if hiking or out with the dog for the day, its a perfect feature.

Cons: I tried removing a few links by myself and was unsuccessful. I have removed links on several watches before, but after many attempts at removing links on the PAW1300T-7V, I was afraid that Id do permanant damage (to the watch and link-removing tool) so I took it to my local jeweler - 5min and $10 later, the watch fit like a glove. Also, the atomic sync feature doesnt always work. If I leave the watch on my night stand (next to the window) before I go to bed, it only receives a signal and syncs automatically about once a week. However, Ive had better luck syncing manually when outdoors early on the morning.
This is the coolest watch ever!!!     On: 2009-03-06

I dont want to repeat what everyone else said before me. I am sure by the time you read this review, you are already familiar with how great this watch is.

The one thing I would like to mention is that this watch has a LOT of functions and it is difficult to remember how every single function works. But if and when you get use to this watch, it is one of the best gadget ever built.

Some things that other people might not have mentioned before is this watch has a tilt sensor so that you can view your watch in the dark by simply tilting your wrist toward you. My wife thought that was the coolest feature.

Another interesting thing is that if you remove the back cover to change the battery, the watch would actually display a "cover is open" message. I thought that was cool.

Lastly, I LOVE the titanium band. That really lightens up the watch. And the 24 hour barometric pressure trend plot is really cool. You are practically a walking weatherman if you have this watch.

You would love this watch.
Great Watch     On: 2009-02-20

Large, easy to read face and lighter than youd expect from such a sized watch. Easy to use functions.
Casio beats Suunto, highgear, and the rest.     On: 2009-02-17

I have owned the pathfinder for a month. Prior to this I had several other companys altimeter watches and broke each of them in months. I was quite disappointed by the lack of durability thinking it strange that watches designed for outdoorsy people would be built so fragile. I finally hit on the Casio. It seems a company dedicated to watches is best suited to meeting our needs!!!
1) The watch face is recessed to protect against scratching.
2) The band is a full metal band (Unlike the suunto observer which is a resin/rubber band covered with metal plates) so it is ultra durable
3) The band is connected to the watch not with typical full-length bendable pins but with another more durable system.
4) The clasp seems totally indestructible.
Simply put this looks like the most durable watch I have every found!
The altimeter function only reports to 20 ft intervals which is kind of a bummer but does the job acceptably well. The compass, barometer, and thermometer functions I dont use a lot but seem to work equally to all other brands.
The atomic feature is pretty cool, and the solar power part is also pretty cool. It seems to stay perfectly charged just by the 20 minutes I keep my wrist in the sun while driving to work. But I dont use the backlight too much which the manual says would drain the battery a lot.
Overall for $200 this seems like the best combo of features and above all else durability. Leave it to casio to build the indestructible watches we need.
TO CASIO (if you find this): I love your watch, can you make a version dedicated to skiers? Ditch the compass, expand the altimeter features to be 3 foot intervals and create a log that counts your ski runs.
Nice watch; atomic time doesn't work on East Coast     On: 2009-02-13

Im quite happy with this watch. I bought it after I broke my last watch while trying to replace the batteries, so the solar power was the most important feature for me. It has multiple alarms and a countdown timer, which I use frequently. The "atomic time" feature (radio reception of time signal) works well for me at home on the West Coast, but did not work on recent visits to New York City and Florida. As others have mentioned, the temperature is not accurate while you are wearing the watch. You will need a special tool (or a visit to a jeweler/locksmith) to adjust the band initially.
Titanium?     On: 2009-02-08

Unfortunately Im one of those people who have developed a nickel allergy. I loved my atomic Casios in the past and was happy to see they had come out with a titanium version. Why would you go to the trouble of making a titanium band and then put a stainless steele back on the watch? Thanks to that cost saving measure I cant wear this watch. My Skagen titanium watch doesnt give me a rash, but it doesnt have the functionality and ease of use that these Casio atomic watches have. If you dont have a nickel allergy Id reccomend this watch highly.
Casio pathfinder     On: 2009-02-01

Best watch that I ever purchased. Keeps perfect time & changes with daylight savings. Takes a little to get use to all the features. After that its great.
A good watch..     On: 2009-01-28

Ive only had this for a few weeks but here are some observations.
It keeps good time and (atomic) refresh from Denver seems to work most of the time.
I have an indoor job so this watch doesnt get direct sunlight most of the time, but so far the capacitor has stayed in the "full charge" zone with just fluorescent lighting.
The compass works OK outdoors but if I was going for a woods trek I think I would bring a regular compass instead of relying on the watch.

Barometer/Altimeter/Thermometer are not reliable at all. It appears the the best use would be to measure "relative" altitude rather than actual altitude since the barometer rarely matches what the weather service indicates is the current pressure in my area. You can adjust these values for current conditions but they may not be accurate a few hours later.

I was a little disappointed that the watch case was only partially titanium veneer. The actual case is plastic with titanium pieces glued to it on in a few areas. The band is well made but not very flexible near the watch case. Casio could have designed this just a little differently so that the watch would lay flat on a surface when you are not wearing it and conform to your wrist better when you are wearing it.

All that said, I would still recommend it if you want a watch that always has the correct time, will probably be maintenance free and has a few extra features that my give you an edge if you ever find yourself lost in the wilderness .

I liked the service and the Casio Watch I received from you this past month. Instructions and controls could have been clearer but that is why manuals and web sites should be manned and written by literate Americans . I hope my happiness with the product continues
Exactly what I expected!     On: 2009-01-19

Dont need my glasses to see the large readout. All functions work perfectly. You need to remove the watch from your wrist to get an accurate readout of the air temperature or youll get something closer to 98.6
Gr8 watch     On: 2009-01-13

This is a great watch. My initial thought was to get the Tissot T touch but this is far better than the tissot watch. This is solar powered and so no headache of battery change etc.

I got the 7V version as I wanted something more formal and this watch is best for that.

So far no complains in over 2 months. Just go for it!!
Well done     On: 2009-01-03

Hats off to Casio on this one! Automatic time updates reliably every morning, compass is accurate and easy to use, barometric pressure is precise to .05" Hg. The solar-recharge battery works as advertised, needing only a few minutes or so of direct sunlight every couple of days to remain at high charge level. Reasonably sized and lighter than expected. A lot of watch for the money.
Great watch, lightweight and durable     On: 2008-12-29

I bought this watch as a gift for my bf. he loves the watch as its handy for so many reasons, and it completely brings out the geek in him. Weve relied on it multiple times as a compass to get us headed in the right direction when we are lost. He also uses the timer a lot when he is cooking to make sure he doesnt burn anything. Also when we travel, its easy to adjust to the local timezone as the main time, but still have our hometown timezone listed on the bottom. Its also waterproof and extremely light weight. when he lifts his arm the LED light turns on automatically, making checking time in the dark fantastically easy.
if you man doesnt like to wear jewelry but you want to buy him something anyway, this is a great solution. Its utility also.
Superb durability, functionality, and design. Great watch!     On: 2008-12-23

I originally bought the thicker version of this watch and eventually returned it. I was so thankful when Casio developed the "thin" version that I ordered it as soon as it became available.

Ive been wearing this watch daily for over 1.5 years at the time of this review. Its a gem of a watch. I have several options available including a couple of Seikos I like to wear. Except in very formal attire (weddings, anniversary dinner, & etc.), I opt for the PAW1300T-7V, even when nicely dressed for work. Though YMMV. I know I looked at Suuntos and the older Casio Pathfinders, including the ones with tides. I live nowhere near the water, so I wouldnt get a lot of use out of that, but thats literally about the only function I can think of that this thing doesnt have.

The titanium band helps this watch feel exceptionally light considering all of its functions. The Barometer is fairly accurate even without calibrating, the digital compass is quite good, even when using it indoors. The thermometer is accurate, but needs to be removed from your arm for at least 10-15 min. for it to pickup room temperature. No big deal and if you are climbing or hiking, you probably already have another compass with you.

I bought this watch because I wanted as much functionality with my Every Day Carry as I could get, I liked the design, and the solar power along with Atomic time made this in a class by itself. Im really surprised that a competitor hasnt brought out something comparable, as this watch is very popular and gets rave reviews on many equipment/outdoors forums.

I bang this watch into everything and it sees a lot of action, but the band has withstood it all as has the faceplate. Other than minor scuffing and some tiny dents, it looks pretty new. I have yet to see the battery move off of the high charge indicator - not even to Medium. If you use the tip function to auto-light the face, it may wear it down, but I have used the light plenty without it draining much. Its about as accurate as it gets with the Naval Observatory Atomic time synchronization, and even if you happen to be somewhere you cant get signal it keeps excellent time. I find the dual timezones very useful for travel or when working with teammates overseas. One feature I found to be very useful is the barometric readout over time (graph) which really does help you note when the weather is about to turn. Its like having your own personal weather station.

This thing has nearly everything you could want in a watch with no compromises on design, price, or quality. Casio truly delivered with this watch. This watch replaces a lot of equipment (much of which you probably wouldnt carry all at once!) Couple this with a GPS and a backup Silva compass and you are set.

Pros:
1. Excellent Design and Quality craftsmanship
2. Light Titanium frame - much lighter than even some of my thin stainless watches. The band clasp has a nice safety in case you snag it on something. You have to squeeze the sides in to release it.
3. The functions are really endless. Except for tides, this thing has the kitchen sink. Barometer, Thermometer, Compass, Altimeter. World time, multi-function Stop-watch, Timer (countdown), multiple alarms, bright blue-glo backlight, solar-powered... the list is amazing, and they all function very well. No compromises on ease of use or capability here.
4. For all the features, this thing is a miracle of modern technology. The fact that they made this fit in a watch half the thickness of its predecessor and MUCH thinner than any of its competition says it all.
5. Tough as nails. Ive been swimming many times, including salt-water. Ive done heavy construction with it on, banged it against numerous surfaces and dropped it more times than I can count.

Cons:
I seriously have to think to come up with any detraction. I really cant come up with any Cons. I think that might be a first.

Wishlist for next version:
1. Tides (hey, why not throw in the kitchen sink)
2. Luminous hands/dials incorporated so you can check the time without using the backlight.
3. make the solar array a bit smaller in diameter to give more surface area to the face.
4. Calculator? ;-)

Seriously, sometime in the future a version will have like 100GB storage, USB uplink, and probably will be an MP3 player and get RSS/Atom feeds over the air. But for now, this thing is top notch equipment at a VERY reasonable price (especially on Amazon). I was happy to spend less, get more functionality in a thin light design compared to its closest competition.

Top Rate     On: 2008-12-16

High satisfaction with the quality and durability of two previous Casio digital watches was influential in my purchase. Everything about the watch exudes quality, including the feel and operation of the titanium link band. The watch is attractively designed and the main functions are easy to operate. The large main digital readout is a plus. Regarding the features, any expectations on the accuracy of the altitude reading should account for the fact that it is a function of barometric pressure and therefore subject to variation. Some instructions on how to remove links in the band would also have been useful - in the event I was able to get enough information on similar bands from the internet to enable me to shorten the band myself. Overall, this is an excellent watch with which I am extremely happy. Purchasing through Amazon.com was smooth and efficient.
Good for trekkers     On: 2008-12-15

This is a good watch if you are the type who is interested in trekking. The watch is slim compared to what is appears on the images in the internet. I have just had this for watch for over a month now so its probably too early to comment on durability but looking at the reviews I guess that should not be a problem.
Good looking semi formal/casual watch with lot of scratches     On: 2008-12-12

I like this watch. Good things about the watch are,

It suits for both formal and casual dresses.

Light weight.

Atomic sensor works very well even if i dont keep near to windows.

Bad things,

The strap is prone to scratches too much.

Barometer is relative not absolute.

Overall I think Its ok kinda watch.
great product     On: 2008-11-17

This is a great product. I bought it for my husband, and he liked it very much. The time is accurate, and all the other functions seem easy to handle. He is only a little unsatified with the size: if it could be smaller, that would be perfect.
Nice watch!     On: 2008-11-02

In downsizing the larger Pathfinder to the 1300 series, Casio also made the watch nicer looking; less "cheap", with toned down trim and less loud labeling. The titanium band is a very nice design, and I am surprised Casio doesnt show it off more, as it has an excellent latching design befitting far more expensive watches. On the negative side, the much smaller graph display is barely useable, but that seems to be the only compromise with the much smaller case. Also, the auto-light feature is too easily triggered, so Im just leaving it off - it works too well for me.
Great features and very light compared to size     On: 2008-11-01

I would say this Pathfinder 1300T watch is rich in features and also has very less weight as compared to its size. Titanium band is also light and sturdy. This is the first Pathfinder series Casio watches that I own now so cannot compared how good compared to other casio watches but I can this watch is a real beauty. Anyone with $200 to spend gets best value for money.
Works as advertised     On: 2008-10-30

Have this watch for about a month now, it really works as described.

I found all the features to be handy except the Altitude but guess thats because I dont go hiking.

The barometer graph seems to be off sometimes, the problem is that it is effected by tempreture, so if you take the watch off while sleeping the watch tempreture will change resulting in a bad graph, but I havent confirmed that yet.

The watch size is great, the Titanium band is great although it can be easily scratched.
Good value     On: 2008-10-24

I bought this watch because I liked the bigger display digits and the metal band it comes with... and neither has disappointed me. The only thing I question is the accuracy of the temperature readings... even after letting the watch off my wrist for a few minutes it does not match nearby thermometers well...
Great watch, 2 small complaints     On: 2008-10-23

First off fantastic fit and finish of the watch.
Really like the design and layout of the display. All the buttons seem to be just right. I havent hit one accidentally while wearing the watch.

The manual is laid out rather well, and explains everything very clearly.
In fact it weighs more then the watch does!

Two small complaints.

The light, it literally stays on for less then a second. Fine for normal reading of the time. But trying to use any function in the dark would be impossible without a flashlight. Also driving at night not enough time to hit the button and look at the time for me. Its a solar watch and they are trying to save battery is the reason, but making this adjustable would have been great.

The only other small complaint is the auto time set. It works, but the bar graph on the display means absolutely nothing. Right now it is showing full reception. I do the procedure to update it manually and the bars drop to nothing and it gives an error. But just leaving it alone on my dresser overnight it will set just fine. So the system works, just dont believe the bar graph.

Oh one other small item, the watch comes set for metric users, so right out of the box I had to go and adjust 5 or 6 display features. Probably a good thing, made me understand how to do it right from the start. So know going in to break out the big book right away.

Highly recommend the watch to anyone. Even with the two very minor annoyances its is a fantastic watch.
Great watch     On: 2008-10-20

My old Atomic/Solar G-shock had a cheap plastic band that cracked after about a year of use. I was keeping it held together by using a rubberband to keep the strap in place. My wife got tired of looking at the rubberband everyday and got me a Pathfinder with Titanium band.

Kudos to Casio for finally getting it right. I will never have band issues again. Its a lot thinner and lighter than the old G-shocks, and I probably wont reach for my finer timepieces if Im heading out to dinner as often. Its a good looking watch.

The functions are fun to play with. I understand you shouldnt trust your life with it out in the wilderness, but Im not that much of an outdoorsman.

I hope this watch lasts longer than my 2 previous G-shocks. To be continued...

Great watch-even better customer service     On: 2008-10-17

My first watch had a faulty sensor that affected the altimeter which would not hold a correct and stable reading. I had worn this watch for almost 2 weeks and adjusted the band by removing links for a better fit. When I contacted Amazon about the problem they immediately sent out another watch with overnight delivery at no charge even before I was able to get the first watch back in the mail. That is great customer service.

The new watch is perfect and as a professional wildlife and landscape photographer I definitely put it through all the tests. Buy this watch with confidence.
Altimeter Worthless     On: 2008-10-17

Although there are many things I like about this watch the altitude function is worthless. It simply will not hold and altitude reference setting and I have been through two as the first one I purchased did the same. For example I re-entered the correct altitude reference for my home as I must each morning because it will change overnight and one hour later without leaving the house and with stable sunny weather outside the altitude reading changed by 400 ft!
Solid product from Casio     On: 2008-10-14

I purchased this watch to replace my 7 year old Pathfinder which required to change the batteries every ~18 months or so. I really like the atomic sync and the titanium band (scratches kind of easy but that not a biggie). All the other features like the compass and the barometer work well and help you get first hand information when needed on the fly. I use this watch for both, the office and the outdoors - is classy and rugged at the same time - you wont be dissapointed.
Over 1 year of use and still going strong     On: 2008-10-12

Ive had the watch for over a year and it has held up well. Ive had several other watches that still worked after a year or so, but they were always beat up, this watch looks almost brand new. I purchased it as a gift to myself after looking around at several multifunctional watches including the Tissot Touch. All of the functions work great and the other reviews cover them well. Several features that I like are the light weight (hardly noticed) smaller face (My wrists are small and its hard to find a mans watch that doesnt look oversized, - this fits perfectly) additionally, the clasp system is outstanding and holds when you want it to and releases easy. The Atomic timekeeping (you never have to set it, unless you change timezones and its very easy to do) and solar work great, I have not seen the power indicator go below the high setting since Ive had it.
Great Watch! I wear it when flying.     On: 2008-09-17

I chose this watch after trying on other models and reading reviews. Ive had it for several weeks, and I bought it for flying and hiking. I wanted good looking watch that wasnt too big - like most of the Pathfinders, and I wanted an easy to read backup Altimeter. It has a smaller diameter and is thinner than many other models. My wife thought I looked ridiculous wearing one of the others, and she is happy with this one! The titanium band makes it look good enough to wear as an everyday watch. Many aviation watches do not have an altimeter, atomic time keeping and solar power which I think are the 3 most important functions an aviation watch should have. On several local flights the altimeter was usually within 40 feet of the departure setting after landing approximately 2 hours later. It was once 60 feet off, and that was during a period of changing weather conditions. By the way, the barometer trend function correctly showed deteriorating weather that day. At 5000 feet above the ground when flying, the greatest variation Ive had was 240 feet. The one time I used it when hiking, I started at 1300 feet and climbed to 3200 feet. It was only 20 feet off from the known elevation at the summit. To get accurate readings, the barometer and altimeter have to be set to known conditions before departing, and this only takes a few seconds. I wouldnt use it to shoot approaches to minimums in IMC, however, I feel good about having it as backup equipment in case of a pitot-static system failure. The altimeter tracking can be set to 5 second intervals to show a vertical speed trend. It works and the graph above the altimeter shows a climb or descent. If in the altimeter mode, it is necessary to hit the mode button 4 times to get to the stopwatch mode (3 times if in local time mode). I found this to be too distracting to use it as the timer when shooting an ILS approach while in instrument conditions. However, it is not an issue if that mode is set during the descent vs. waiting until intercepting the localizer.

The atomic time sync works every night even with the signal going through brick and several sheets of drywall. Once charged for a couple days in direct sunlight, my watch has stayed in the High charge mode. The compass doesnt have a leveling bubble like some other watches. I found that the reading was up to 20 degrees off when I did my best to hold the watch level. I recommend using a different compass if you have to have one for hiking. It takes my watch over 5 minutes to get a reasonable temperature reading after taking it off my wrist, which is not practical. Mine appears to be 3 to 5 degrees off indoors. I havent tested the thermometer outdoors. On the flip side, the altimeter requires the watch to remain on the wrist which makes that function more practical and convenient than the thermometer. The auto backlight feature when tilting your wrist is great for night flying. However, the light cuts off after a couple seconds even if you hold down the push button.

I recommend reading the instruction manual and trying all the functions. The various functions are intuitive after using each one several times. Overall I think this is a great watch. I hope this helps you as much as other reviews helped me.

Great Watch - Watch the Price!     On: 2008-09-13

Same watch is available elsewhere on Amazon usually for less. Search under PAW1300T-7V. Right after I purchased this watch I noticed that it was available for $15 less and with free shipping directly through Amazon. Plus you would receive a free calculator.

Learn a lesson from my mistake. Search for this same watch elsewhere on Amazon before purchasing. Selling it as PAW1300T-7 and PAW1300T-7V is deceiving. Its the SAME watch... Check the price before purchasing. Amazon should list all sellers under one posting for this watch like the majority of their other products.

Regarding the watch, I dont have much to add beyond what has been said by other reviewers. Its a great watch. Obviously some of the features are not 100% accurate but Casio doesnt claim that they will be. Its still a lot of fun to have an Altimeter, Barometer, and Compass strapped to your wrist!!!

Helo Pilot Loves Casio Pathfinder PAW1399T-7V - Great size and function..     On: 2008-09-07

I have admired the Casio altimeter/barometer/compass pathfinders for several years. But I never cared for the huge size.

I wanted their functions in a smaller, lighter watch. When Casio introduced the PAW1300T-7V, I decided I would try it as a replacement for my aging Luminox Navy Seal watch. I needed a watch that was fairly light and easily readable in the dark. The Luminox had fit that bill perfectly with the Tritum capsules on the hands at at the hour marks. But over time those capsules loose their luminosity. Also batteries have to be replaced. The prospect of a solar powered, rechargable watch that automatically corrected itself with the Atomic Clock signal was an added benefit.

I fly for an EMS helicopter service for a living. Half of my shifts are night shifts. This watch works very well for quick time checks with its auto-illumination feature. I have found if I calibrate the altimeter and barometer with local conditions that the altimeter function is very accurate, usually within 20-40 feet of the calibrated altimeters in my helicopter. I frequently check the watch against the altimeters when we are flying. Dual time zones means I can leave the secondary time zone on UTC for filing filght plans. The temperature function is not of any real value to me as it is greatly affected by body proximity. But it is accurate if the watch is removed from the body for about 30 minutes. The alarms work well but the alarm tones are too soft for my ears after flying turbine engined aircraft for almost 40 years.

So, a quick recap: Automatic self-correcting time snychronization, Solar powered/recharged, Excellent automatic self-illumiation, Accurate altimeter and compass functions when calibrated for local conditions. It smaller than previous PAWs and lighter, especially in the Titanium version. I was just thinking the other day that I have been using Casio watches for the last 30 years. (I just put a battery in one of the oldest and it still works great!) I have always liked their layout and user interface. This newest Pathfinder of mine is no exception. It is easy to use, easy to set. If you like Casios, for the money, it is hard to beat this watch, especially on Amazon!
PAW1300T-7V     On: 2008-09-06

It works OK apart for: Barometer, when Im in mountains (ie, above 1000 m), the barometer usually does not show the graph of the previous readings, but only the current measure; this is bad if you want to understand how pressure is going.
The altimeter readings storage is not totally clear to me, I have still to understand something.
I do not use some features as Auto EL Backlight with Afterglow, World Time.
What disappoint me most so far is that barometer graph misfunction.
Great watch with tons of functions     On: 2008-08-26

I just used this watch while hiking in China, and I love it! Such a great buy and many more features than a Suunto for less money.
Great watch so far     On: 2008-08-25

Great watch, working well for the first month. For a multi function watch it is not too big.I like the solar charging, as I have had problems with prior watches losing their water resistance after a battery change. I love the atomic time, not so much that a timepiece needs to be that accurate, but that I dont need to reset the time ever, except with timezone changes. The automatic backlight feature works well and I like it. The altimeter is consistent, if not that accurate. I climbed Mount Elbert in CO, and after calibrating it read exactly the same at the same location on the way down as it did on the way up. It was between 100 and 200 feet off at the summit. If accuracy is needed, get a GPS watch. Compass and barometer work fine. Thermometer is pretty useless unless you strap the watch somewhere other than your wrist. I have not found the watch complicated to use, having to refer to the user manual only 2 or 3 times. I am happy with the titanium band, although it would have been easier to adjust with a tool designed for metal band adjustment. If one isnt handy with tools, get the special tool, or take it to jeweler to get it adjusted. I am looking forward to a band that should last forever, as resin bands on previous watches always harden, crack and break over time, usually 1- 2 years. I would recommend this watch.
Satisfied....so far     On: 2008-08-21

Just received my watch today and wanted to contribute to the reviews that helped make my decision. Bracelet is plenty large for all wrist sizes. I had to stop by a jeweler and have 3 links taken out. It fits perfectly now. Immediate impression is this is a very good looking watch. I am a little dissapointed with the barometer thus far. The manual implies that there should never be a need to calibrate the barometer but if one arises, luckily they gave instructions to do so. Mine read 29.75"Hg out of the box. As a pilot i checked this with my local airports recorded weather briefing (only minutes old) and NOAA web sites reported pressure, both were 29.93. I went ahead and calibrated mine to 29.95 (only shows .05 "Hg units) and it has been changing well with the reported pressure changes the rest of the afternoon. Altitude works well so far. I am upgrading from a Highgear Summit that showed altitude in 1 foot increments while the pathfinder shows 20 foot increments which is obviously not as precise but to be fair, the Highgear fluctuated wildly. Compass seems adequate. I wouldnt use it if you had to navigate to a destination to the degree but for general reference it is fine. One thing i wanted to remind buyers is Amazons excellent price guarantee. When i ordered this watch last week it was listed at $223.00. The day after it was shipped the price fell to $214.00. I contacted amazon and they promptly refunded the difference. You can read the details but it has to be within 30 days of purchase and must be an item sold by "Amazon", not another vendor. All in all, a good buy.
Great upgrade     On: 2008-08-20

Ive been buying Casio Pathfinder watches for quite a while and this generation is the best so far. It has the two features I really prize: atomic timekeeping and solar power. It also has world time which is also a big plus, as well as a countdown timer and stopwatch - both of which I use. The thermometer function, like all watches I know of with this feature, is only accurate when the watch is not next to a heat source - like your wrist...

Pluses:
+ Better display - includes day AND date; the previuos model required switching between one or the other.
+ Declination adjustment - BIG improvement!
+ Smaller & lighter - BIG plus
+ Nicer design (my objective opinion)
+ Elegant band clasp design - virtually foolproof in keeping the clasp from accidently unsnapping.

Minuses:
- 10 degree compass accuracy - what?!
- no depth guage; not much of a big deal for me, but if the sensor is already there...?
- Barometer and altimiter are "close coupled" meaning whether the weather changes, or youre climbing/descending, both readings change. Suunto has a rather elegant fix for this in their new CORE line - you can set the Alti-Baro mode to "Alti" if youre climbing and only the altitude changes, or you can set it to "Baro" if youre in one place and only the barometric pressure changes. OR, you can set it to "Auto" and it then interprets rapid/large changes in pressure to be altitude changes and slow/small changes to be weather changes. It then switches modes to lock one or the other accordingly - really neat feature that works very well.

Finally, setting items in the various modes is still not quite intuitive, but getting better.
All in all, Id recomend it.

Finally, Casio got it almost perfect     On: 2008-08-20

I had several of the Pathfinder watches including the latest Casio Titanium Pathfinder PAW1200T7V. Although the previous watch was light and worked fine, it was a little big and lacked a couple of features that I wanted. This watch is thinner, lighter, and has every feature and mode Ive ever seen on Casio G-Shock and Pathfinder watches. It is very comfortable, not too big, and the face is layed out very well (there is no wasted space with useless displays). By far, the best Pathfinder watch Casio has produced by a long shot. Why did I say it was "almost perfect"? , it wasnt free :)
The best of the Pathfinder Series     On: 2008-08-15

This is my third Pathfinder watch. Of my previous models, one was lost and the other stolen.

The good points: Light weight. I looks heavy but the titanium band is light and the clasp is VERY secure. This watch is slimmer than my previous Pathfinders - so it looks better on my slim wrist. The "atomic" function works very well. It sets almost every night no matter where I put it (but it works best near a west-facing window-Im in Louisiana and the "atomic" transmitter is in Colorado). Ive had many compliments on the styling. Im sure the solar charging system works well but since it has never run below "high" charge, I cant know for sure.

The bad point: The compass indicator is no longer a set of lines that display over the entire face of the watch. This model has indicator dots around the edge of the dial - hard to see in low light.

Buy it - You Will Like It.
Almost perfect     On: 2008-07-14

Yes, this watch is almost perfect. I love the mix of features, including the solar charging and NIST time sync. It all works very well.

The bad feature is the design of the buttons. The absolute worst is the button for activating the back light. This button is pretty much impossible to find in the dark, which is when you need the back light.
Outstanding watch for traveling     On: 2008-07-07

I travel around the globe as a consultant. This watch is easy to read without my glasses -- in the dark-- in an airplane that is darkened for night travel
Very light weight for the metal band it has. Big bold time display with manual back light as and when needed.
Not sure I will use all of the features -- but they do work if I want to use them.
Even my wife says that it looks good when I get dressed up -- and she normally prefers the older style with fancy gold trim.
I highly suggest this Pathfinder PAW1300T watch if you travel extensively and need a dependable time piece.
Casio Watch review     On: 2008-07-05

This watch has all that I wanted in an everyday wearing watch. I have found all of the features that I wanted in it. It is a very sturdy watch, and appears to be able to take being a daily wearing watch, as well as one that is very nice when just going out for an informal night with friends and family. The instruction booklet is very well put together and made it easy to learn how to access all of the features on the watch. The band is also rather easy to adjust and remove or add links to it.
A hit with a techie     On: 2008-07-05

This watch was a hit with my adult son who is a technical trainer. He is obsessed with the correct time and loves all the other features as well. He travels worldwide which makes the atomic feature even more valuable. The watch is not very pretty to look at, but is very functional. It was a perfect graduation gift. Only down side: he will have to have links taken out of the wrist band.
Casio Pathfinder Watch     On: 2008-06-16

I love this watch!! It is the best watch I have ever had, and Ive had more than a few over the last 73 years.
Best watch I've owned     On: 2008-06-12

This is easily the best money Ive spent on a watch. I researched for a long while on what to get and I finally settled on this. The altimeter is fun and pretty darn accurate. The thermometer is good once you take the watch off your wrist. Its also unbelievably light with the titanium strap. Perfect for someone who is outdoors a lot and likes to know what direction theyre headed in.
Works very well     On: 2008-05-29

Casio Mens Multi-Function Pathfinder Silver Watch #PAW1300T-7V
This watch is very useful for hiking and other outdoor activities. The barometer changes can show on a graph on the time display. The graph works well as an indication of coming weather changes. The altitude changes work well also and accurately (within 20 feet or so) reflect the changes for that episode. The atomic time setting has been very reliable in the mideast US. The titanium watch is smaller and much lighter than earlier versions of this watch. The clasp is a unique and much more secure design that incorporates a pin that latches behind two clips rather than the more typical friction clasp that can fail more easily over time. Once I got used to the new clasp design it is easier and quicker to take the watch off but more secure when it is on. And the solar charging is icing on the cake. Ive never had problems with the charging.
Slim and functional     On: 2008-05-12

The design is quite good and it is quite slim compared to previous generations. The automatic illumination is nice. It also has auto power saving mode. Let me remind you that you need to take it out of your wrist for an accurate temperature reading.
Casio Pathfinder     On: 2008-05-11

This watch is an excellent product. The only small problem is it determines altitude like an airplane and uses barometric pressure to reflect density altitude which means the hotter it is the higher it shows the altitude to be.
Casio watch     On: 2008-04-27

After researching product for several months, the decision to buy here was easy. The price could not be beat. Watch is great and service was very fast.
Good all around watch with neat features     On: 2008-04-21

I got this to replace my earlier solar atomic watch which had a plastic band failure. I got the ti band and had it adjusted at a local jewelery store for $8. I am very happy with it. On a recent climb to (map stated) 5964feet the casios altimeter said 5980, without any presetting etc. Obviously the temp is an issue on your wrist, and anyone out to explore will have bruntons, silvas galore strapped to them. But navigating subways in strange cities the compass will work well enough as will the world time function. Overall just what I wanted.
Not the best choice for an altimeter     On: 2008-04-10

I received this watch as gift to replace an Avocet Vertech that finally died after 10+ years of hard use (cracked case). Let me preface this review by stating that my primary need for this watch is for outdoor recreational pursuits, not as an everyday watch. I much prefer a classic analog watch for every day use; this is kind of too techno-geeky for my taste. As an everyday watch its fine; as an outdoors tool I find it to a bit lacking.

The altimeter is good with some nice tracking functions. I am wondering if it will prove to be as accurate as my Vertech (the chip in the Vertech is temperature compensated during calibration). Digital compass is nice for general use or a quick check of direction but not good enough for navigation; I would still carry my trusty Silva Ranger. The rest of the stuff on here is nice but to me it is just "fluff". Atomic time keeping is great but to be honest, plus or minus a second or two really doesnt matter much to me. The light feature is very nice, something my Vertech didnt have. Solar power is nice, but replacing a battery every couple of years is no big deal to me. The titanium band is a big negative for me. Good for looks but not practical for use. Being a bracelet, once it is adjusted to your wrist that is the only place it will go. It will never fit on the outside of a shell or glove where I need it in winter when climbing and skiing. And in warmer weather I would rather not have a metal bracelet type band on my arm when having fun outdoors. I checked with Casio about replacing this with a resin or nylon band.... Forget it, cant be done. You have to order special parts to attach to the watch head along with special pins and Casio seems very reluctant to do this (one of the reasons I received this as a gift was it was advertised as "multi-band" and the gift giver thought it referred to the watch band). Lastly, the functions on this watch are not very intuitive; this watch has an instruction manual that is 153 pages long. Thats at least 100 pages more than I want to read to learn how to use a watch. When I am cold, tired and hungry I want something that is easy to use, not have to look at a cheat sheet to figure out which buttons I need to press..

So for the bottom line.... I would return this if it were an option. If your primary need is for an outdoors friendly watch that is easy to use, Id give this a 3. There are better choices out there for less money. If you are into the latest tech stuff and are looking for something to impress your friends, then I would give it a 5. I ended up giving it a 4. Also this would be a good watch for a world traveler. That being said it will never replace a dress watch or a nice casual sport watch in the looks department. This watch is going to end up in my top drawer most of the time but will see occasional use when I travel.

Really great features     On: 2008-04-07

I ordered this watch because I wanted the compass features and the titanium band, and Im thrilled with its other features. The atomic time keeping means I never have to set the watch, (even for daylight savings), and the solar charging means I dont have to worry about batteries.

This is a great deal!     On: 2008-04-05

This is a great watch and based on what Ive seen of the next generation, I would still choose this model from Casio. And Amazon offered the best price I found on the net. This Pathfinder looks good and I found all of the functions useful, especially the solar power and atomic time syncing. You wont go wrong with this deal.
best watch     On: 2008-04-05

I upgraded my atomic solar g-shock I had for 5 years. My new watch works great, feels very comfortable on my wrist. While it is slightly bigger in the diameter, it is slimmer a bit.
Highly recommended.
Casio Men's Pathfinder Watch     On: 2008-03-31

This watch does everything I wanted it to do and more besides. I have only one small criticism and that is that the alarm is a tad too quiet.
Excellent All Around     On: 2008-03-15

Ok after reading all the reviews here on amazon, i decided to get this watch and personally i think it is better than any other watch i have had. I usually buy Fossil watches, but always have had a place in my heart for Casio. Ever since growing up I have to love this watch. Ok I will explain everything in Pros and Cons:

Pros:
Current Price of 180 is very cheap for the features
Works perfectly in a Crowded City like Dallas/Ft Worth
The Features a excellent and are very easy to use.
Charge holds for a long time
Charges up really fast
Titanium band does not scratch at all, very tough watch.

Cons:
After using it for a week, i cant find any. Maybe the only one was that the links were kinda hard to remove, but places like Macys and Dillards change the links for free.

Love the watch and reccomend who ever needs the watch to go buy one.
casio paw 1300t 7v pathfinder watch     On: 2008-03-09

great watch and lite, being a titanium bracelet it is very comfortable to me. when you take links out to adjust braclet there are tiny bushings that will fall out when the pins are removed. do not lose these as the pins will not stay in without them. one side of each link has a bigger hole for the bushing. i used a straight pin to help control them. i checked the temperture with three other thermometers. was with in a couple degrees may have been closer, it was 37 deg and i went inside. synced with the ATOMIC time tranmitter at FT Collins no problem it even changed to DST automaticaly. it was already set to auto dst. worked with it all night saturday to check out dst change over and power indicator still read HIGH. my light source was three 100watt light bulbs. compass worked well found north right off and as i moved slightly the degrees display followed. still checking out the other features. back light is bright enough for me, used it a lot outside with temp test and still had HIGH battery readings. barameter and other features will be tested tonight. i highly recomend this watch.
Nice watch     On: 2008-02-29

The watch is a very nice one
i bought this watch as a replacement to an older casio that i had
sometimes the atomic feature in the watch has problems receiving signal if you live in a city but it still works at least once a weak.
the other functions, even if not scientific accuracy is applied are very accurate, especially for such a small package.
also, this watch is anything but fragile. With my last watch, the plastic band snapped. With this watch, i cannot see that happening, even though the wrist does get scratched up a bit, but i expect that considering how hard on my watch I am.
Wonderful watch and stunning looking     On: 2008-02-15

work as it tells, the perfect watch in pathfinder series.
just the atomic function cant work in other countries outside us
Man what a watch!!!     On: 2008-02-03

I have been in the market for a cool new watch. This one sure looks good. I highly recommend the 1300T model. It is the slim line case, which makes it pretty slim by the way. And being constructed of titanium, it weighs almost nothing. All the features on the watch are definately cool. I wouldnt go navigating through the woods or skydiving using the watch, but they are good things to have. Nothing wrong with second checking your real compass against your watch. The band on mine came huge, I think I ended up removing 4 links to make it fit my wrist! I am 180 lbs, 510", so I am not exactly small either. Solidly constructed watch too. So go ahead and order one already.
No batteries to replace; super accurate timepiece; and I'm happy.     On: 2008-01-19

Downsides: The watch is rather large but thinner than the Suuto I was considering. The instruction manual is small but a half inch thick! The lighted dial seems rather dim to me. At first I thought it would get brighter after it got a good charge but its still dim.

Upside: Solar powered (no batteries!) and super accurate time piece. The Atomic Clock calibration feature works fine and automatically adjusts at midnight. This feature will work in the US, Japan, and Germany.

Note: I have the titanium band. If you adjust the band, there is a very small metal bushing inside. When you push the pin through, it will likely fall out. You must replace this bushing or the pin will not stay put. To use the thermometer, take the watch off or it will only read your body temp. While using the compass, hold it horizontally or it will be off.

I would buy this watch again.
Great Watch     On: 2008-01-11

100% satisfied. Ive had this watch for a week now. My biggest concern was that with all the functions it would be difficult to use. This is not the case. Very easy to navigate and functions work great. Note that you have to remove the watch for some time for the Temperature to be accurate but that is to be expected. Very accurate timepeice and not having to reset while traveling is a huge plus. Looks are good too; Im not a big guy and the watch doesnt look too big on my wrist.
Casio Pathfinder Watch     On: 2008-01-07

I gave this as a gift to my husband. He hasnt taken it off. He loves all the functions. We enjoy traveling and he has found many functions that come in handy while traveling. One of the features he loves is the dial that lights up when a button is pressed. At night he can push that button and actually see the time.
long and short of it     On: 2007-12-09

Keeps excellent time (atomic). compass ok. Barrometer and altimiter quite inaccurate. My house varies from minus 220 ft to plus 300 ft on day to day basis. I would prefer day and date numbers to be larger but
time of day easy to read.

Great Watch, Not All Features Work     On: 2007-07-25

I really like the watch, and the layout of the time, the choice of how the date is displayed (Day of Week and Date, or YY M-DD), the look and feal, and some of the other great features.

However, there are some features that are notoriously bad for accuracy. For one, I have yet to get a watch anywhere that can accurately read temperature. The problem is that your own body heat affects the reading, so you actually have to take the watch off, and wait an astounding 5-10 minutes for the gauge to normalize to ambient. It makes me wonder about other readings, such as the barometer and altimeter, since I have no other instruments to normalize these against.

The compass is also hit and miss. I have gone west and had the compass say north-east, which is almost as wrong as you can possibly get. Of course, this was inside a car, so I wonder if there are magnetic fields affecting the reading. Is this another thing in the fine print that I missed? It does seem to work some of the time, such as right now as I type this review. You do have to try your best to keep the watch level as you are taking that reading.

There are other complex features, too, and the watch does a great job of keeping atomic time, right down to the second. Its been sunny here, and the watch has yet to leave the High battery level. My last Casio watch took hours in direct sunlight just to reach the High level for a couple of days. I would presume that the battery has been improved, but I wont know the extent until years down the line. It took about 5 years for my last Casio solar watch to start losing its charging ability.

Overall, I am satisfied with the watch itself, but I rate it 4 stars because I think I overpaid for the special features. If they dont work accurately, they are useless. Casio could do much better if they improve the accuracy of the compass, and the rate at which the temperature guage can normalize. If I have to remove the watch from my arm, then fine, but I shouldnt have to wait 5-10 minutes for the reading to normalize. There are instant read thermometers out there that give you an accurate reading in seconds.
Best watch that I have had     On: 2007-07-03

The first thing about that i noticed about this watch is that it is significantly smaller than any other watch I have had with similar features. Very thin and low profile, approximately 30% smaller than the Highgear watch that I had last (that was a piece of junk).

The casio is very tough and light and the features all work as described, and it has so many features that I cant really think of anything else it could possibly leave.

All in all this is a digital watch that is as aesthetically pleasing as a fair number of dress watches, works well in any situation from business to outdoors.
Casio PAW 1300T-7V     On: 2007-05-21

Easily the best watch Ive every owned. I really like the feel of the metal band. The atomic synchronization works every night. Its packed with great features. Love it!
The PAW1300T-7V is a great watch.     On: 2007-05-18

I received the watch about a month ago and have loved wearing it.

At first it was a challenge to adjust the titanium band. My advice is to watch out when taking out the links that you dont misplace some very small tubular spacers that WILL come out when you remove the pins.

Everything works perfectly. The time and date are easy to read. The various modes are intuitive. The watch is VERY functional.

Apparently casio solved the issue of making the watch smaller. It fits perfectly and stylishly on my smaller than average wrist. It looks like a normal, but very nice sports watch. Thank goodness it doesnt look like a PDA strapped to your arm! The discrete silver/black/grey finish matches my entire wardrobe.

I love that the watch is solar and will never run out of batteries in normal use. I also like the way it will automatically synchronize with the atomic clock via radio signals without any prompting from me and it reports the time it last successfully did so.

The compass, barometer, and altimeter are great features to have, especially for the outdoorsman. They seem to work well. American wearers will need to figure out from the manual how to display the default metric units of meausure into feet, inches of mercury, etc. But once you change the setting, you dont have to think about it. Casio also made sure its water resistant to 100M, which is an essential feature for a water-sports lover like me.

One thing I would like to have is the ability to have the light stay on as long as I hold the button. Currently it will stay on for exactly 2 seconds per button press and then turn off. However, there is an autolight feature that will turn it on momentarily when you raise your wrist to look at the watch (nifty). Still, it would be nice to be able to use the watch as an mini flashlight of sorts when in a pinch (as I did occasionally with my previous watch) by holding down the light button.

Overall, this is my finest watch purchase yet and I cant think of any truly big negatives to mention. My view of this watch is overwhelmingly positive. I have really enjoyed wearing it so far.

For the Gadget Lover     On: 2007-05-15

I have had this watch for about 3 weeks now and I still love it! I am a 64" man and the large watch face is a perfect fit for me. The watch is very light for its size and eventually you dont even notice it. The manual is about an inch thick (half English/half Spanish) and I still have not tried all the features. Some features are intuitive and others require a lot of trial and error OR the manual. Out of the box the altimeter and compass seem to be fairly accurate as I compared them to a GPS and a magnetic compass. As the manual states the temperature will not be accurate while wearing the watch. If you want an accurate temp then take it off for about 3-5 minutes then take the temperature. One of the coolest features though is the ability to tilt your arm to look at your watch and the light comes on automatically for about 2 seconds. Oh yea and I love having split second accurate time!
The complete package     On: 2007-05-13

This is a well-designed watch that will keep itself charged and set to the precise time (just be warned that in places like New York, far from the synchronization signal, it sometimes only receives reception once a month). The compass operates smoothly, the automatic light on feature (when you tilt your wrist in an exagerated posture to look at the time, the backlight activates for one second) is great.
As a design freak, I just wish they elevated this by having a high-end rubber strap mixed with the titanium frame. Overall, this watch has it all and looks reasonably nice.
Overall a fantastic watch     On: 2007-04-06

Yes, the watch is about twice the size of most other watches (although this makes it about half the size of other pathfinders) and has a users manual that comes in volumes, but the watch itself is absolutely wonderful.

Once you get used to how the watchs functionality is laid out, there is a logic to the commands that becomes intuitive. The screen is very easy to read and adjust to what you wish to see.

Pros: Surprisingly light, and it really doesnt look that huge once you have it on. Functionality, of course. I really havent had the time to field test all the functions... but my office seems to be reasonably stable from an altitude standpoint. Great band - very stylish and very wearable as a work and play watch.

There are a couple of cons. The compass no longer has the "clock face" directional pointers. It has the dots on the periphery that show the 4 primary directions and a digital value for the current heading, but the nice and expressive pointers have been removed. There is no adjustment for the length of time the backlight stays on. I use the auto light function (very nice) but sometimes have to shake my arm like I am having a seizure because I missed the time the first time I did it.

Fantastic watch.

Worth every penny..Its a Keeper..     On: 2007-04-03

First i need to say that i am a loyal consumer of Casio Pathfinders for the past 9 years!!! I have had these watches since 98. The best i would say about the watch is it once you have owned it, you wouldnt want other brands of casual sports watches. This has pretty much everything u need featurewise. Though i own other brands which are more expensive dress watches, i always like to keep upgrading my Pathfinders, just cant resist it..

The features and the operations are very similar to the prior pathfinder triple sensors with the added benefit of atomic timekeeping. The only negatve of this watch are the buttons (specifically the light and the adjust). They are a lil small and placed flush with the case that it is hard to depress them. There are plenty of links to play with to adjust them to your wrist size. Though it is a lil hard to remove the links because of the small parts, it can be done with patience unless you do not mind driving to a jeweller to fix it.

Overall this piece of technology is worth every penny you pay for and probably more too. Definitely a keeper...
