Timex v. Polar HRM     On: 2010-03-08

Very reasonable price & most of the functions of my defunct expensive Polar. It has worked well in cycling, and the session recall is useful. The current time/ HR in session, is not available without a button push. So this means riding no hands, not so good in criteriums. Apart from this, it is a good buy.
Just perfect     On: 2010-03-08

I got this watch since I started running/jogging outside again, and it is awesome. I have to monitor my heart rate for medical reasons, it couldnt be better. Thank you Timex!

Great investment     On: 2010-03-06

This heart rate monitor was on consumer reports as a best buy and I definitely agree! I have had no problems and am very happy that I bought it. My sister in law bought 4 different heart rate monitors and finally ended with this same one and is very happy. It does need to be wet on the chest strap before starting a workout. It counts calories too! And you can check the status anytime during your workout, you dont have to wait until youre finished like some others do. Highly recommend it!!
Great for the price     On: 2010-03-01

This HR monitor is my fourth one, and I am glad I finally switched from Polar to Timex. My last two Polar F4s quickly delivered incorrect readings, and the battery died within a few months both times. You have to send the item back to Polar to replace the battery (in my case, from the West to the East Coast), and their customer service is simply atrocious.
As for the Timex, you can change the battery yourself, which is a big bonus. Plus, its half the price of the cheapest Polar HR monitor. It is easy to set up and use; the display is easy to read and one can switch back between HR reading and time exercised / calories etc. easily. The unit also seems to give reliable readings, and it picks up the HR well if the strap is moist and snug enough (not the case for the Polar, either). I havent used it in spin class or at the gym yet, so cant comment on interference. The watch is a little bulky for women, but not too bad. The only thing I do not like is the calorie reading, which is ridiculously high and completely unreliable. 700 calories for a 40-minute leisurely run? Wouldnt that be awesome?! Then again, most calorie readings at gym machines etc. are also inaccurate, so for me thats not a big deal.
Overall, a good bang for your buck.
good watch/heart rate monitor and cal counter     On: 2010-03-01

I have had my watch for almost a year now and it still works really well. It needs new batteries here and there. I check that first when it starts acting up. That has always helped any problems I had. I would have given it 5 stars, but it is really hard to change the battery on the wrist watch. My husband has to help me with it every time. We have only changed that part twice in the year I have had it. I use it alot. I go to the gym at least 5 times a week and work out anywhere from an hour to 2 hours. I would recommend this watch to anyone who wants calorie/heart rate information during their workout. It also tells you your highs and lows of your heart rate during the workout. I think a great price for all that information.
