![]() Citizen Men's BM8180-03E Eco-Drive Canvas Strap Watch By: Citizen Average Rating: 4.5 Total Reviews: 247 More Information FORGET ABOUT IT!!!!! i BOUGHT THIS WATCH IN GOOD FAITH BASED ON POSTIVE REVIEWS. DOES NOT WORK SINCE I OPENED THE BOX i AM AN IDIOT TO BUY ONLINE, SHAME ON ME AND CITIZEN WATCH!!!! Great watch, classic design, but fell short on the band Ive had this watch for a couple weeks and really like it. I wanted something simple with classic design characteristics and I think Citizen hit the nail on the head with the BM8180-03E. I love the fact that I never have to replace the battery, although it may take a week or so to fully charge the watch if you spend most of your days indoors. The one thing I didnt like, hence 4 stars instead of 5 was the band. It was rigid, small(circumference) with riveted holes which you cant really see in the picture. I purchased a new Zulu 18mm 2 ring band which is very comfortable and much better looking. Classic Look This watch is great. I dont have to worry about regular battery replacements as it is powered by light. The watchband that comes with it is not so attractive so I purchased another that matches. It was pretty easy to change out. The watch face is small enough for my small female wrist but a little thick and can get caught on sleeves. This is probably from all the internals that are needed to grab the light and store it. I love the style of the watch face. Simple military classic look. Great watch for the money. Bang for the buck For $81 dollars, cant go wrong with all the features. Never have to worry about battery. Good water proof rating etc. If someone needs chronograph there is a similar one available. Would be nicer with a braclet instead of the canves strap. But I bought for every day use, not dress. Can always add a braclet. Better than others say and lookonline...quality, stylish, value Dont listen to the pansies complaining about the band...it is comfortable, trendy, and has 10 holes to adjust length for small or large wrists. Watch is masculine, armyish but simply elegant and rugged. Eco Drive is great technology and my other one has lasted me 6 years+ now.....for under 100$ cant be beat. Love everything except strap I must say when the watch arrived I was pleasantly surprised by it. The watch looks much more elegant than the pictures make you believe. Im 57" medium build and the watch fits just right on my wrist. If youre looking for a flashy watch with a big face look elsewhere. This is more of a simple everyday watch that you can rough it with and not get too disappointed if it gets damaged. The only reason it does not get 5 stars is the strap. It is well made but I just have a problem with the color choice and material. Its not very comfortable on the wrist and I have been fussing with it a lot. I plan to stick with it for a few months then swap the strap out for something black with all leather or a rubber. Great Watch at a Great Price I purchased this Citizen Military Watch after having owned a Tag Heuer for over 15 years. The Tag is a fine watch, but I always had issues with the need to refurbish the watch every two years and replace the battery. The dial was grey and the hands were silver, making the Tag hard to read. This watch is never going to need a battery, keeps time as well as the Tag, is very easy to read (night or day) and is sized for a small to medium wrist. The strap is canvas, but mostly waterproof. The face is day and date, which I find very handy, since I often lose track of the day. It keeps very accurate time and is easy to reprogram at the end of the month. For $81.00, its hard to find a better quality rugged watch at the price. One quirk, however, which I do not understand, is that the watch was being sold by another company when I placed the order, but then the order switched to Amazon as the seller just before it arrived in the mail. I dont know why this happened. I am satisfied with the watch. I think it is a great value for a military style watch, which should last years without maintenance or additional cost. perfect! I cant like it more! Relatively small dial is better for Asians. I bought it a month ago. And so far, it runs precisely. Better than expected I normally dont post review but I like this watch a lot which I think it is a good recommendation especially the price is really affordable. With the eco-drive, I dont have to change battery all the time which saves me some money and trouble. I like the watch is not being too heavy but the body looks durable. Not sure why some reviewers said the canvas strap is not good but I like it is being light and didnt look too formal. Why I Love This Watch There are so many good reviews already for this watch, but Ive been so pleased that I had to add my own. I bought this after I accidentally dropped my Seiko diving watch on the floor and broke it. Ive had mine for a week now, and its become my all-time favorite. Heres why: -Regular quartz watches require battery changes, and automatics/winding watches go dead after a few days in the drawer. Not this one. -Ive grown tired of the look of my big chunky diver-style watches. Nothing against them, but I was ready for something simple, classic, understated, masculine, functional, and beautiful. This fit the bill. -I changed out the band with a black Nato by Maratac. I do that with almost all of my watches, and I really love how it looks now. Already getting compliments after one week. -The luminosity at night is not as good as my Seiko divers, but its still sufficient. Cant complain. -Day/date setting instructions were simple, if you follow the directions. -Keeps fantastically accurate time. Im used to my automatic watches which are always gaining time and require lots of resetting as the weeks go by. Not this one. After one week, it hasnt gained/lost a second! -Not too big, not too small. Im 64" with average sized wrists. Perfect fit. -The seconds hand lines up perfectly, and the watch runs silently. -Its waterproof. -Ive found that products on Amazon with hundreds of reviews and 4.5 or 5 stars turn out to be fantastic products and good values. My thesis has been proven again. -I cant believe that even with the new band, Ive paid under a hundred for this watch. Incredible deal. -I feel good about the environmental-friendliness of the solar power. -Feels very light and comfortable, unlike the chunky/heavy divers Im used to having hanging on my wrist. I can see me sticking with this watch for many, many years. Id recommend it to people looking for a very low-maintenance, accurate, classic looking watch at an incredible price. Great Watch! This Citizen is great for those who need a real watch without the bling! It is lightweight, does not need a battery, keeps time accurately and its very easy to view time when dark. I wish the band was black but other than that its great. Great Basic Watch This is a great watch that is very simple and easy to use. Solar powered so no more battery changes. The only thing i would change is the color of the band. other than that. Perfecto. A fine one A nice replacement to my battery-eating one. Works great, but the fluorescent light in the night is not very great. Disappointing I had a couple of Citizen watches, they were solid and long lasting. Unfortunately, this one is not. Attracted by the eco-drive mechanism, I decided to buy one. The watchs movement is excellent and innovative. Unfortunately, the workmanship really makes this watch a disappointment. 1) second hand does not line up ( even my $10 watch has all hands lined up perfectly ) 2) date/day setting mechanism broke, repaired under warranty 3) rust ( never seen this before on 1 year old watch ) on the bottom 4) uneven brightness on the numbers 5) cheap hands, made of filmsy material For the price of the watch and Citizen brand, they are major flaws.... good but luminosity lacking I think this is a great watch although I do feel I have to make a conscious effort to keep it charged. I even put it on the laundry line on sunny days. To fully charge the watch requires a lot of days of sun. You get 11 hours for 2 minutes in full sun. My biggest problem with this watch is the poor luminosity. Immediately after bring the watch in from outside its fully luminous for some minutes but other than that I can barely see the time in the dark. One of the reasons that I got it was so that I can see the time in the dark so although I gave the watch a 4 star rating I was tempted to give it a 3. All watches should be ECO I have a very nice Hamilton (gift, worth 300) that every year needs a new battery---to maintain the waterproof guarantee, I have to take it to an "authorized" dealer which is costing me 25 annually!!!! What a rip-off!!! Not to mention a total waste of resources and abuse of the environment. Now I bought this, and used it for a few months, no other battery-powered watch makes sense. In this day and age, with light-capturing chips becoming sufficiently powerful what idiot would use batteries! As to kinetic or automatic watch---first of all they require a mechanism that is around 100 times more complicated (even the non-tourbillion) and moreover, if you dont use them for a few days they die off. This thing keeps running for 250 days even if you store it in a closet that long. This think is a marvel. Citizen shoud rule the watch world for coming up with a nice concept and executing it so well. The piece itself is cheap, but also wonderful to look at. It is chunky and solid with a beautiful face. One notes a slightly off-black center but only at close distance. The dials show up clear at night. The only con is it does have the slightest ticking noise, but only if you stick it up your ear. Definitely not like the Swatches though, I can wear it at night without noting it at all. A persnickety synopsis To Whom it May Concern, For whatever reason, Citizen has yet to make all of its lineup available in solar-powered form. Admittedly, there were other designs that I wouldve chosen had a wider selection been available. Utility must trump aesthetic concerns in a watch, however, so I went with the type that never would see a jeweler. Still, I was WRONG if I had ever thought for a moment that Id be compromising with this watch. As one of the most reviewed items on Amazon.com, there is little left to add. I would just iterate that the watch could definitely pass in a formal setting with a different strap, but for other occasions works just fine. The duration of emitting light at night is strongly tied to how much exposure to the sun its received during the day (though it is also worth noting that it tends to work even in mild shade). It is shinier than in the stock Amazon.com photographs, as is true of other watches as well. I urge you to look at the customer-submitted photographs, which more accurately portray how it will actually look on your wrist. The second-hand is indeed off of the slashes just a little bit. If youre that concerned, you probably have an extra $300.00 to spend and should stop looking at the thrifty alternative. I was much less annoyed by the strap and grommets than reading the entirety of reviews here had prepared me to be. Make sure to set the watch date right! It is extremely satisfying to have the date and day change precisely at 12:00 midnight, which was not the case on my other Eco-Drive watch--even though I set it within the prescribed window, I became dissatisfied with it changing later in the morning. For people interested in READING the time, while also not mind being SEEN with a timepiece (e.g. having an awkward hunk of metal cling-clanging around your wrist like you are some sort of baron), this is your watch. I am extremely satisfied with how well I can tell the time, as well as how the watch looks. I am quite pleased with this watch, though it is the largest Ive ever worn. In addition, the prospect of having to change the strap in the future (perhaps because Ive been brainwashed here) keeps it from receiving an impeccable rating. Regards, GHR No more searching for over-priced batteries! Had the watch about a month and so far I love it. Like others have stated though, the band leaves a little to be desired. Easily remedied. I bought a black velcro sport band that goes nicely with the black face. Looking forward to years of NOT buying batteries! Little let down. Ive destroyed three under-$30 watches in the past two years so I finally allowed myself to buy a (slightly) more expensive piece. Build quality is nice, although it is very shiny. You can see the solar cells in the face with very little reflecting light, but only if youre looking for them. Day of the week is in Spanish as well as English. Unfortunately the lume is a huge letdown, no matter how much light Ive given it, itll be nigh invisible in under an hour and a half. Granted if its been in the sun the lume is so bright you can see it inside during the day. I was really disappointed by this because the last three watches have much better and Ive read really good reviews of Citizens lume. Citizens Men's BM8180-03E Best price. Fast service. As advertised. Light source keeps battery charged: No need to wear to keep it running, unlike Seiko Kinetic which stops after several days if not charged by motion. important warning i bought this watch for myself. it is as advertisement BUT *Do not adjust the calendar when the watch is reading between 9:00 pm and 4:00 am, otherwise the movement may become damaged and the calendar may not change correctly.... i did it and now i can not fix the date it always show wrong day number but still works fine.. is anybody knows how can correct it? Good watch but.... First of all, I have to agree with the minor complaints people posted. 1. The watch is too shiny, making it look cheap. 2. The wrist band it not wide enough. And the distance between the grommets are too far apart. 3. The shiny watch and the dull gray wrist band dont watch. Why couldnt they make everything the same color? I sort of knew what I was buying. So I thought. I paid attention to the "not-glowing" reviews and looked at the pictures, but the pictures dont show how shiny this thing really is. Functionally, its a good watch, but not very discreet to wear. Now that I have it on my wrist, I would have bought another model. Good watch The band is on the narrow side. Im a six foot tall person with average wrist diameter and Im out on the 2nd to last hole. Someone with a big wrist might be on the last hole or out of luck. The band feels more like plastic than like cloth. At first I wouldnt say its overly comfortable however I havent broken it in yet. Some people might chose to replace the band. Setting the watch was fairly easy however the crown doesnt have a definite two position feel to it (one position to set the time and the other position to set the day and date). The watch face has large hands so its easy to tell the time. Its hard to see the day and date unless your in pretty good light. The fact that the watch will not need a battery over its lifetime is going to save the cost of several battery replacements which could justify the cost of the watch alone. All in all its a good watch for the money (thus four stars) but I would not give the watch five stars because of some of the minor issues listed above. Great watch Ive been wearing this watch for about 6 months now and Ive been happy with my purchase. Couple issues that other reviewers have mentioned the rivets just seem placed one off for my wrist, one rivet is slightly loose and the next is too tight but Ive gotten used to wearing it slightly loose so not much of an issue for me. Time wise it gains 2-3 seconds a month, this is the first watch Ive worn in a long time so I cant say whether that is normal or not but it doesnt bother me for the price i paid. Appearance is fine for my tastes. To me its a time piece not a fashion accessory, I wouldnt wear it with a suit but every other situation i wouldnt think twice about having it on. The band is much greener than it appears in the picture, which looks brown, very military green canvas like. The face of the watch is simple and the digits are easy to read and the solar cells are practically invisible. Overall a great watch that I dont feel like I have to baby or worry about. I dont see myself looking for another watch for a long time. Great Low Priced Citizen Watch I had been looking for a new casual watch that I could wear just about anywhere and this watch is perfect! The Citizen brand and the EcoDrive were something that were a big plus. Ive got a smaller wrist and I think the case size is good, big without being too big. I thought I wasnt going to like the band based on other reviews, but I decided to wait to buy a replacement band until I saw the watch. Im glad I waited, it gives the watch a vintage, military look. At some point Ill probably buy a black leather or sport band and that will dress it up some more. The only reason I didnt give it 5 stars is that Ive noticed under certain light, the watch face looks a little brown in the area that the EcoDrive gets its power. Overall I couldnt be happier, its a great watch at a great price. Elegant, robust, classic, and accurate: A Find & A Keeper After looking at almost 100 watches on Amazon, and closely at 6, I chose the Citizen Eco-Drive BM8180 because it met, and exceeded, the adjectives I applied to it in this reviews title. I closely considered the similar Eco-Drive field chronograph, 2 Seikos (both field styled, and both automatics), a Bulova, a Stuhrling, and an Invicta. It is the Citizen BM8180 for me (I have had the BM8180 for almost two months now), for these reasons, and in despite the one caveat: *Traditional materials & old-fashioned proven design. A solid steel case and back, and glass/mineral crystal, along with the plain black dial and simple numerals. Details like the crown guards and a claw-screw back emphasize a handsome, well-made timepiece. Also carries a 5-year parts & labor warranty (and a 20-year warranty on the power cell). *Eco-Drive: no batteries, no winding dependent on how active I am (and automatics all deviate at least 1 minute plus per month below the $400 and up range). Solar-powered quartz movement, so just "set it & forget it." I am a bit nocturnal, so to be on the safe side I set the watch on the windowsill for an hour of mostly direct sun once a week, which should keep it fully topped off at all times. Any source of artificial light is also fine (incandescent, fluorescent, halogen, even a REALLY large candelabra will do it!). *Feels great and very substantial in my hand, on my wrist, and when setting. *A very good, known maker, and at a price so low I want to tell people I paid MORE (I paid $81US, March 2010)! *And more than a little: a remarkably high & consistent rating on Amazon. It is indeed very rare to see any item on Amazon receive such high marks and comments, with so few negatives, over such a long period of time. I have been an Amazon customer since 1998 and bought watches, cameras, computer equipment, pens, books, CDs, DVDs, audio equipment, flashlights, small hand tools, luggage, and who knows what else, and I cant remember another item that so nearly universally gave its purchasers here such a strong positive experience. *Setting the watch is easy, straightforward, and mostly intuitive, except for the warning not to set day/date between 9pm and 4am, which has to do with mechanical workings internally, and is not any inconvenience. A few people have not read either the Amazon product page or any of Citizen documentation, and have damaged their timepieces. So just dont be an impatient dope. *The only caveat or negative Id offer I dont find an issue, myself. The band is tightly-woven OD green canvas with a sewn black leather backing (another mark of quality old-school manufacture). The solid steel grommets are large. It is stiff at first. After 2 weeks it loosened and lengthened about 3mm. I have pretty thick wrists and I am on hole 2, even 3 on some days. It is a good looking, substantial band. I like it. *All the other things: it keeps good time, losing just slightly more than 1 second in 9 weeks, which makes it 5-6 seconds deviant a YEAR. There is no backlight, but the hands glow legibly for 30 minutes or more after lights out. It is perfectly silent, even pressed tightly to my ear. The day function reads out alternatively in spanish, if you like or need it to. The requirements for light recharge are modest and will be easy to meet or exceeded by nearly everyone who wears this watch. 100 meter water resistance, which will be retained, unlike watches that must be opened every 2-3 years to replace the battery, thus ruining their real water resistance unless repacked by a pro for $$. The Citizen docs are clear, easy to read, and extensive. All in all, I give this watch an unreserved strong recommendation, a 5-star item for certain. I was prepared to hate the band and replace it right away, and the BM8180 would still have been a 4+ star. So for a handsome, solid, dependable, and inexpensive watch, you cant go wrong here. Great Watch. This is my second eco-drive watch and I love it. My other watch is for more formal occassions, and I wanted something that would be good for work and everyday wear. This watch fits the bill. It is very accurate, and it looks better than in the picture. That includes the band. I had some reservations about the band, but it also looks much better in person. I considered replacing the band with a new one upon arrival, but Im now planning to wear it until it needs replacement. Lasted so far - 5 months in. I cannot believe the glass has not scratched, it has banged up against some rough walls. I never take it off, shower with it on, do dishes etc.. The band fits my wrist fine.. but I am 6 140ibs (there are 2 holes after what I use). Amazon sent me a french version though.. the days of the week are not in english.. I kinda like that though- took french in high school. It is one of only a few small watches for men that dont eat your wrist. nice... Straight forward watch Bought this for my son. He really likes the size of the watch, the size of the numbers, and the simplicity. He didnt want extras - just a straight forward watch and this delivers. The only drawback is the strap. He would like it longer so it isnt so tight around his wrist. Citizen Watch Review Although the watch looked nice, it certainly didnt perform well. The date function advanced two days (instead of one) on three separate occasions. I returned the watch for a refund. Great performance, with a minor hassle I hope this is the last watch I ever own because I love it. Very classic style and does all a watch should. Only hassle is... the buckle for the strap keeps centering on my wrist (my wrist is 8" around) which means the watch face is off center maybe 1/2 an inch which means I have to shake my wrist to re-center it, often. The other thing is for people like me who work nights. The date changes almost at midnight, great. The day changes @ 0200 into Spanish then @ 0400 into the English. I get to watch this every night I work. For those normal people who work days, its not an issue. Anyways, buy this watch it is a spectacular value. Great worry free watch! I was looking for a watch to wear at work, I am a cable guy so work can be physical at times. My requirements were that it was sturdy, water resistant, kept time and needed zero attention. This fit the bill perfectly, Eco-Drive was a must because I was sick of changing batteries and losing water resistance. The band is a fabric covered leather band. leather on the backside and fabric on the topside. I was worried about another reviewer saying that it had developed a smell over time, seeing what it is, Im not worried, I just take it off if Im going to submerge it in anything other than water. I also measured my wrist and I have about a 6-7" diameter wrist and I am on the third to last hole, I also cut off the second strap holder because it was not needed. Overall I really like the band and hope that it will still be available when the time to replace it comes. The watch itself is great, after two months there is not a scratch on the crystal and I know Ive banged it against a few things. The crystal is as close to as makes no difference flush to the face, calling it 1mm taller than the face would be a stretch. Eco-Drive speaks for itself, twenty year life on the "battery", no winding or battery replacement. I Just checked the gov time server and in two months, its lost 66 seconds. I wear it everyday and I dont worry about it needing charged, plus its good for over 6 months in complete darkness from fully charged. Im an Eco-Drive buyer for life now! Great Watch for Some but, Not for Me Quick and dirty review: Description Standard E-100 case with black face and white numbers/markings. Shiny, stainless steel case. Bead blasting would be better. Green strap is barely big enough for a big guy. Big guys, if you get this watch, get a different strap. I would suggest a nice bund style or, NATO band. Pros Style Eco-drive Day/Date Cons Numbers too small and hard to see Sweep does not line up with hash marks Not as luminous as my other E-100. Returning since I wasnt too impressed and I decided to a buy Seiko SNDA83 and SNDA65. Eco Drive Citizen Watch Good watch would like to recommend to everyone .No noise compare with Timex and no need battery.Good to buy go for it. It on sale now ,fast shipping very happy this watch. Thanks Amazon. Right watch for the price Citizen watches are not inexpensive, and for a Citizen for less than $90, this has proven to be a good, solid, and dependable timepiece. Like others, I am not fond of the band, but only because the grommets are not exactly right for my wrist - I need an in-betweener - otherwise, the band has been quite durable. I wanted an easy-to-read analog dial with good contrast. I did not want a "chronograph" (which used to mean "accurate" not the "glitzy", "blingy" and "frou-frou" watches called a chronograph these days) and after waiting to see if the Citizen railroad model would come back in stock, chose this model. I didnt expect top-of-the-line at this price, just dependability, and this watch did not disappoint. Does the sweep second had line up exactly? No, its less than a hairsbreath off using a magnifying glass, but I so seldom read seconds from my wrist that I dont care that it is not absolutely EXACT, its close enough that I dont see it. Do I mind that the information on the back is not engraved? Not at all; not at this price. Im not gentle on my watches and there are two broken high-end Seikos in my drawer that were expensive enough that its probably worth the cost to repair them - but Ill just break them again - and I feel semi-guilty that Ive never taken them in for repair. If I break this someday, Ill discard it, guilt free. I can buy three new ones for less than the price of one of the broken Seikos. So all-in-all, its a good everyday watch that looks nice, tells me the time of day, isnt over-loaded with anything extraneous to "what time is it" and hasnt broken. Im satisfied and I recommend this model. Nice! This product works as advertised, and for the price, is a good value. Ive used it for walking, jogging, swimming, and biking. The biggest drawback is that it does not store past workouts, so if I go for a bike ride, stop for coffee and then continue, I cannot store the first leg of the workout until I get home. One of the best classic sport watch at this price category Pro: The weight and the size is good for everyday wearing. Very easily readable, day and night too with luminous markers. Totaly silent. More economical than the old quartz watches (solar powered, rechargable battery). Con: The case is too shiny to my taste (not as matte as the picture). The date setting is a littlebit annoying. Read the manual carefuly! If you have an avarage or above wrist, you need to change the band. Its an exellent watch! Love the watch! Great casual watch. First thing I did was to switch the band to a flat rubber watchband; this actually made the watch appear office quality. Love the solar power; I have been checking the time against the time.gov standard regularly and it has been running consistently 2-3 seconds fast each week. This is much much better than my previous (and much more expensive) automatic watch. Also, I have not had any problems keeping it charged despite wearing long sleeved shirts to work. The watch runs nearly silently. My old automatic had an audible sound in a quiet room from about 2 feet (right about the distance from my wrist to my ear when typing). You have to put the Citizen watch on your ear to hear anything. Size of the face is perfect for a medium-sized wrist. I prefer smaller watches in general and this is at the upper end of, but well within, my comfort zone. Best of all - I get compliments on the watch. Small complaint: as others have mentioned, the second hand is fractionally off the mark - not enough to get bothered about. Great watch! Just recieved this watch, so this is first impressions only! The watch seems very well made, like the classic military watches of the WWII era. Thin, light, tough, and a simple design. Pros: Well made, simple layout, easy to read, Solar powered!, thin profile, accurate (it seems). Improvements: The band.. reading reviews, you like it or hate it. I prefer a 22mm band width... I took of the 18mm canvas strap and put this watch on a the band velcro band that was actually 22mm, but that is worn and fits fine. That allows me to use this watch on a wider, more comfortable, velcro band. Also, my seconds hands do not line up with the tick marks. This seems like a common problem among about 1/2 the reviews. I know some very high end watches even have this problem, but it still bugs me. I have ordered another one, just to see if I get one that is perfect. Other suggestion, is the watch is pretty small in diameter. I prefer bigger watches and I think this watch would be great in a larger diameter.. but I cant hold that against it. If you have a smaller wrist and want a tough watch, this would fit the bill! Overall, a very nice watch, especially for the price! I like the look and feel I had the Citizen Eco-Drive Canvas Strap Watch for four months. A simple watch was what I wanted to easily read the time and date. I thought about getting a fancy chronograph or slide rule but I figured I would seldom use them so all that extra clutter would take up space most of the time. The numbers are larger than what Im used to but I have gotten used to them. It is silent so those clock ticking sound lovers should take note of it. The second hand doesnt always align with the lines perfectly but its not enough to make me complain. The date needs to be adjusted every month or two. The instructions says to only change the date within a certain period of the day so the moving parts inside would not be damage. If I am in between 9pm and 4am and being impatient, what I do is change the time to be outside of the damage range, change the date, and then change the time back. Just remember that if you move back the time far enough, it may change the date by one day so youd have to redo it again. I bumped my watch on many hard surfaces and no cracks or scratches. I cant say its without any blemishes but youd have to be examine close enough to spot them. I dont remember the last time I adjusted the time. Maybe a month ago? I usually try to time it with the atomic clock online. Its about thirty seconds off since I last adjusted it. I could have been lazy the last time and not use the atomic clock. But now that its the end of the month, Id have to change the date and just re-sync the time after that. I also like the illumination. Even in an area where its not brightly lit but still have adequate lighting, the hands will glow. Useful in the dark but I havent timed how long it lasts before it loses the glow. Last thing I will talk about is the infamous strap. It does have a leather lining on the inside so its comfortable to wear. It was stiff at first but after a few days, the strap became more flexible. The stiffness wasnt really a big problem to begin with. Ive read complaints about the odor. I sweat in it all the time and got it wet from the rain and sink and it doesnt smell. However, there are no hot summer days here to test the full out sweat-fest. The metal grommets are a problem though. I dont mind the appearance. One is a tad loose and the other is tight. Over time, I notice the timepiece is sliding more to the side of my wrist. My wrist is already thin. Either my wrist is getting skinnier or the strap somehow stretched. I may have to move the watch back to the center of my wrist a few times a day. It can be inconvenient if Im holding on to something and cant twist my wrist far enough to read the time. I still love my watch though. Im not worried if it doesnt match with what Im wearing. Im satisfied of its lower price than other Citizen watches and I dont want to change multiple batteries over the years so I hope this canvas watch will be functional for a long time with its Eco-Drive technology. Nice medium-sized watch Great value in a mid-sized watch. Very, very legible, easy to read at a glance with mediocre eyes. Attractive simple face. Good lume. At 37mm, this is not a large watch. It is relatively thin, it stays out of the way and easily slides under my sleeve. Leather backing on band may be annoying in warm weather. Band is shortish - second hole on my 7 1/4" wrist. 18 mm lugs limit aftermarket band choices - Maratac Mil spec. works well. 3 Month Review Ive owned the watch for 3 months and worn it every day. Just today I swapped out the band for a 4$ WalMart black 1-piece (similar to the maratac ones). Im glad I switched bands. I tried to live with it after reading all the negative reviews, but it was sort of getting on my nerves. As youve probably read before, the metal grommets are too large, so 1 eyelet will be too loose, leading to the watch "leaning" away from the center of your wrist. And the next one will be too tight. The watch has been very accurate. Its comfortable for being a metal piece. The illumination is awesome. I am someone who has always worn Casio or Timexs, and this glow is so much better. Just stepping outside for a minute in cloudy weather is enough to make it glow pretty bright. Another great thing is that it is completely silent. You cant hear the ticking at all. The only cons I can see with this watch is you have to occasionally readjust the date; and of course the band. Perfect watch for my tiny wrist. I was looking for a cool watch to wear at all times. I got looking for the perfect one, didnt want to buy one that it was too bigger - in dial and wristband, and didnt want to buy one which was too heavy. The watch is very light, basically you dont feel youre wearing him, and I didnt wear a watch since 2000. Im very happy I decided to buy this watch and since I dont have to worry myself about batteries, this is a very faulty-proof watch. Wonderful watch I cant exactly explain why, but I found this watch on Amazon while looking for something else and became fixated on it. I must have had it in my Wish List for several months before deciding to treat myself for Christmas to this. I got it the day before Christmas and am delighted with my purchase. The watch itself is incredibly good looking - masculine - large - very easy to read numerals. The luminescence on the hands is brighter than on any watch I have ever owned. The red sweep second hand contrasts nicely with the stark functional backdrop of the white-on-black watch face. The watch seems larger than what is displayed on the Amazon site, but not so large that it resembles a pop-art watch or anything. You just wont mistake it for a unisex time piece. But the canvas strap is funky. It looks like Citizen had inherited some surplus Army tents and made watch bands out of them. Where the watch looks better than how Amazon displays it, the strap looks worse. I had a spare black leather band from another watch and replaced the canvas with a much better looking strap. perfect for work This watch is perfect for wearing to work. It is not bulky and the dial is easy to read. The band size runs on the small side but fits my wrist good. For the price it is a damn good deal. Good Casual Watch-No need for battery for life My girlfriend bought this watch as a V-Day gift and I just love it. Even the band is cool and very sturdy. Expensive looking watch at a great price, the strap is fixable The pros: * The watch itself looks great and seems like it should be much more expensive than it is. It doesnt look like a cheap watch (except for the strap... see my comment below). * Accuracy is very good, around a couple of seconds a month off. * Dial is very readable, and luminance lasts throughout the night after being worn in an office all day. * Day of week and calendar are nice plusses at this price. * Stock strap is comfortable to wear, better than plastic or metal. * It is not a clunky watch - this may be a con for some, personally I cant stand rolex-like watches. The cons: * Big, dumb looking grommets on the strap make it look like something out of hot topic. This is easily fixable though - I removed them with a pair of pliers and it looks much better. You could also get a new strap. * Second hand does not line up perfectly for around a quarter of the markings. Not very noticeable though, and I can forgive it for an 80 dollar watch that looks this good. * Not a perpetual calendar, so youll have to adjust the date every other month. * Instructions for setting the date are a little vague. You have to make sure youre in AM/PM correctly because if you set it after 10pm you can damage the watch movement. So, highly recommended for an every day wear. My husband loves it I bought this watch for my husbands birthday because so many good reviews and images. it turned out it was a good present, my husband loves it, the watch suface is very clear to see. I like this watch I have had this watch for about 5 days. I like it. It keeps accurate time. Some people complained about the band but I have had no problems with it. It is not uncomfortable and I feel that it looks appropriate for the type of watch that this is. The numbers and hands are easy to see in the dark even hours after being exposed to light. If the watch proves to be durable it will be a good value for the money. Loved it, but... I loved this watch. My greybeard eyes are failing me, but the big luminous hand and numerals contrasted on a black dial made reading it a cinch. Loved that it had day and date display since my memory is following my eyes. An EcoDrive for eighty bucks is outrageous!!! Kept time perfectly. Why in the world send back such an excellent watch that I loved? The band. It was actually too short. Im usually taking links out or shortening bands, but on this one I had to use the very last hole, and that was uncomfortably tight. Besides, the band is just butt-ugly, detracting from the beauty of the timepiece. Replacing the band was simply too much hassle and expense for me at this time. Beauty, practical, eternal watch The watch is absolutely what I expected from Citizen. It is beautiful, stylish, perfect size, light and you wont ever have to change battery! Good for you, good for the environment! :o) It is true that a black band would make it look way better, but thats an easy fix. They made a great job, developing and using the latest technology for an unbeatable price. Id say Citizen is the Subaru of watches, the perfect match for your outback! ;o) Citizen Eco-drive watch I received this watch as a Christmas present from my wife. I like the look of the watch and that it is an eco-drive watch type. It is keeping good time and look good on my wrist. I am please that the watch is stainless steel. Great watch. Great watch, I gave it to my father, he enjoys it. I like Citizen and Seikos, you cant go wrong, theyll last forever and look good. GREAT WATCH This is a great watch. Ive had it for a few days and just love it. Its very light and fits my small wrist just fine. It does just what a watch is supposed to do....tells time and gives the day and date....no more and no less. As for the band its just fine. Its rugged and doesnt detract from the watch (this is supposed to look like a field watch). If you want something dressier, Citizen does have other models. All in all, I would recommend this watch to others. For slightly more than a Timex your getting a much better watch. Give the band some time I got this watch after reading the reviews on amazon. The watch itself is excellent. Most of the complaints have been about the canvas strap. I too was disappointed with the strap at first. But give it some time, and you will ignore the strap, and see how beautiful the watch looks on your hand. As someone else has suggested, if you so hate the strap, just replace it. The watch is still worth the money. Great Watch I bought this watch based on the reviews here. It was delivered in two days in great condition. Everyone is right about the band. It is not comfortable. The watch itself is great and Im very satisfied. I will ware the band awhile and see if it gets any better. my 2nd Citizen - great minimal design watch This is my second Eco-Drive watch. I bought the first one in late 2000 and it is still working and wearing great (metal band, blue face, perpetual calendar, it was about $300 or so). Citizen really makes a great product so be assured that you are getting a quality timepiece if you arent sure about the brand. Seriously, you cannot find this kind of quality with other brands for this price. In other words, stay away from other brands in the same price range...why risk it? I also have two late-90s ESQ chronographs (roughly $350-400 each) and a titanium Skagen with mesh band ($110 bought in 2003-2004 I think), amongst others that I dont wear as often. The Skagen was my every-day watch (thin, light, clean design) but I will start wearing this new military watch as I absolutely love the minimal yet sturdy design. I would place the Citizen at equal quality to ESQ and better in fit and crystal-quality to the Skagen. The band is a bit stiff and uncomfortable at first, but after wearing it for about a week I am quite pleased with it. I dont plan to exercise with this watch (I wear an Ironman for that) so I dont think sweat and other potential issues identified by others will be a problem for me. Pros: - perfect size. Im 61" and the size is good. Not oversized, and not too small. Im on the third from biggest hole on the band. - plain black face with large block numbers. Simple yet stiking in person. - eco-drive. As mentioned, this is my second Citizen Eco-Drive and they work great. - clean case design. minimal mix of polished and brushed. - day/number display is a nice touch - big, unadorned hour and minute hands. bright red second hand. clean design. - subtle olive green band. Accent stitching makes a big difference. Cons: - stiff band at first - at certain angles I can barely see the solar cell. no big deal. - I would rather it didnt say "WR 100" on the face. My other Citizen also has the water resistance printed on the face. Yes, I am that picky about watches. One day I will purchase a vintage Omega, but until then, Citizen makes a very nice product. I really do like this watch. Great accurate, reliable watch. Nice casual look. This is the best watch Ive owned in my life, at any price. I have worn this watch every day for a year now. It keeps perfect time and the solar charging works great. There is no need to lay it in sunlight or worry about long sleeves; it gets plenty of light to stay well charged from simply using it like any other watch. Ive had no issues with moisture entering the case from showering, handwashing, dishwashing, or swimming (unlike some waterproof timex watches Ive purchased in the past). Ive definitely whacked it on things many times and it has held up well. I have a couple minor scratches on the glass, but its more durable than any watch Ive owned. The minimalist face is a great casual look. Its easy to read the time and date at a glance. The size is ideal: just large enough to let you know its a mens model without being too big or heavy. I only wish that they offered this model with a perpetual calendar. I have no complaints about the band. It has held up well and still looks as good as the day I bought it. There are metal grommets in the holes, and the clasp is stainless steel, so I expect that the band is going to last for many more years to come. I just bought a fancier-looking Citizen eco-drive to wear when I want a dressier look. Ive bought many watches in my lifetime, and I plan to buy nothing but citizen from now on. No batteries or winding, affordable, durable, and great looking. If you are looking to buy a casual watch, this is the one to get. I guarantee that youll love it. Love this Watch Simply love this watch. Keeps great time and I now a huge fan of the ECO Drive by Citizen. Never have to worry about dead batteries while I am on the road. The watch looks good for a casual watch, the day date feature is very useful and easy to setup. I was very surprised at how bright the hands and time glow at night and how long it lasts into the night. Contrary to most reviews I really like the band as well. It is durable though probably better suited for those with smaller wrists like myself. Good work watch I would have given this watch five stars but the canvas strap is odd looking. I am getting used to it though and think this watchs features are just what im looking for. Easy to read, no battery to replace, comfortable, and a nice looking face. Overall Im happy with this watch and would purchase again. very nice with one drawback. I love this watch. good simplistic looking, accurate time keeping, and not need to change battery. Very well built. Only complaint, the band is not very comfortable. A Very Good Watch With Three Very Minor Flaws This is a good-looking, simple watch. Its perfect for guys who dont feel like they need specials dials and bezels (which they dont even know how to use) in order to express themselves. Its a practical and classic watch design for the regular guy. I especially like the fact that the watch is solar powered but its almost impossible to see the small solar panel inside the watch. You have to hold the watch at an angle in extremely bright light in order to see the power panel. The flaws: 1) While it is very, very minor, the second hand on my watch only aligns with about 50% of the minute marks around the dial. Its "dead on" for half of them and about a quarter of a second off on the other half. This is not enough to worry about. 2) The band is cheap canvas with some kind of cheesy eye-holes in it. Also, the band width is 18mm. For a mans watch, I would really have preferred a 20mm. 3) The watch is slightly small. I really wish it was about 10% to 20% bigger. It still definitely looks like a mans watch but if youre a big guy with thick wrists, this may not be the watch for you. I used a box-cutter to remove the factory-installed watch band. I replaced it with a Maratac MIL NATO watch band that looks very good with this watch and which is much more comfortable and secure than the factory band. The watch now looks great and it fits nicely. This is a great watch but be prepared to replace the band. a little disappointed I liked the look of the watch which was the reason I bought it. I knew Id be replacing the band, which I did with an oiled leather. But the thing that bothers me is that the second hand doesnt line up with the minute marks. Thats a pet peeve of mine. It is not really easy to read in the dark--better than nothing but not like other watches Ive had. It looks good and keeps good time though I havent checked it. Thankfully, it's great, since I didn't notice it's green! Just got this in. Bought it for my husband for Christmas. Its really nice for a casual watch. The band is a much better quality than it looks in the picture. Now, I just have to see if he likes it! The band looked black on my computer and is actually quite green (as it says in the description). Its a nice deep green though. Great Weekend Watch I wanted a relatively inexpensive watch I would wear on the weekend while running errands, working on projects, riding my bicycle, and things like that. Now, I have very skinny wrists and typically have to remove two or three links from metal-banded watches but this easily fit using the third-from-smallest notch. Simple sans-serif numbers make it easy to read. It actually has both day and date, something that Ive struggled to find in watches costing four or five times as much. A Very Good Watch I bought this watch to wear when I work day shifts. I did not need anything with extra functions other than a day/date. I am surrounded by all types of devices that will give me gps location, elapsed time functions, and the phase of the moon. I wanted something simple, easy to read, and relatively thin. The thinness has more to do comfort when wearing jackets with snug cuffs. I also wanted something that was solar powered. I looked at the Casio offerings. But the smallest of the solar Casios was larger than this watch. The Seikos were close, but most were larger or heavier. In the end, the simple design and readabilty of this watch guided my decision. The watch is accurate. I have only made minor adjustments in the eight months I have worn it. It is easy to adjust. It is highly readable in the daytime. Less so at night but more on that later. The band was uncomfortable for me. I too opted for an inexpensive leather band which has made the watch much more wearable. There are several reviewers who talk about the luminosity of the watch. I dont know if I got a bad copy (which I doubt,) or if their idea of luminosity is different from mine. When I am working nights in a low light environment, I need to be able to look at a watch face quickly and determine the time. The only analog watches I have found that do this without any gymnastics or button pushing are watches that have tritium vials mounted on the hands and around the face. Everything that is back-lit requires either a button push or a particular turn of the wrist. Though their readability is excellent, I dont often have time or a free hand to accomplish this. The hands and hour markings on this watch dim pretty quickly after being removed from a light source. A couple of hours away from that light source and the hands are very, very dim. I have a 15 year old Luminox that is still far brighter. So for my purposes, this Citizen watch is not a good candidate for night wear or use. All in all, I enjoy having this watch. It is fairly light weight with excellent details. With the leather band, it is my everyday watch at work or at home. When they introduce an Eco-Drive this size or slimmer with illumnation that does not require a light source to recharge the hands and markings on the face, I will be standing in line. But for now, as I do a lot of work in a Night Vision Goggle environment at night, I leave this one home and wear a Luminox or its cousin... Nearly perfect watch for military deployments I bought this watch after going through watch after watch on military deployments. I own a much nicer Citizen Eco-Drive watch that I didnt want to risk ruining in Iraq. This is almost the perfect watch for military deployments. If it had tritium hands, I would rank it THE perfect military watch, but Citizen has yet to offer tritium that I know of. This watch keeps perfect time and extremely sturdy. The canvas band is perfect for a military watch. Rubber and leather tend to dry rot and metal bands just never seemed practical to me while deployed. The solar battery comes in handy since I have had batteries die on me in the middle of nowhere at the worst times, so an Eco-Drive watch fit my requirements to a T. I bought this watch before I knew they made a chronograph version of it, so if you want a chronograh you can find it for a few dollars more. Great Value and the Band is growing on me - Although the Band is Small! I have one other eco drive watch and I love that watch. Its a bit fancier and I paid a lot more for it. This watch so far seems great. I have been wearing it most days for the past few weeks. The face of the watch is a nice classic look. I bought the watch anticipating that I would buy a black leather band at some point however now Im not so sure. The band really horrified me at first as it looks so out of place on the watch but now I seem to like the band. It is a nice casual everyday watch with great value for a citizen eco drive. I may still replace the band someday but for now Ill keep it. I suppose the only question is whether other people look at the watch when Im wearing it and have the same first impression I did. But in the end, thats their problem as I like the watch and Im going to wear it! Only other caveat is the band does seem a bit small to me. Im not a small guy but I dont believe I have an overly large wrist and I have to use the last opening on the band which does mean that the second loop for the band to go through doesnt get reached and it just moves around on the band all day. So if you do have a large wrist then for sure plan on getting a new band. Outstanding value for the money With nearly 200 reviews of this watch I was hesitant to add my review thinking what more can be said? What I noticed amongst the different reviews is that many reviewers have individual specs that they need met to be happy. Simply telling the time accurately is not enough. So heres what Im looking for in a watch and why this watch met my needs. 1. Very easy to read face with illumination and easily visible second hand. Chrono watches look cool, but if you havent used a stopwatch in the last year you might as well admit to yourself its for a sophisticated look. 2. Solar power. Ive joined the Army and if deployed I will have no battery problems to deal with due to abundant sunlight. On a side note, a power cell instead of a traditional battery make this watch featherweight. 3. Very slim case. This doubles the value of the watch in my book because its more comfortable to wear when wearing long sleeve shirts and especially jackets that have elastic cuffs (less snagging). Many reviewers do not like the strap. It is thin (18mm), but I dont find the width uncomfortable. The strap out of the box is a little rigid, but again Im fine with that. I would compare it to Doc Marten boots which are painfully stiff out of the box but when broken-in are the most comfortable boots youll ever own. I would recommend this watch, but admittedly its not for everyone. A VERY PLEASANT SURPRISE If youre tossing up whether to buy this watch or its AT0200 chronograph "big brother" from Citizen, dont hesitate to buy this "little brother". (Or maybe youll be tempted to buy both, as I did!) I first bought the AT0200 chronograph (I gave it 4.5 stars) and thought Id get the BM8180-03E as a "poor cousin" for everyday use at work etc. Was I very pleasantly surprised! As other reviewers have said, it looks far better "in the flesh" than in pictures. The level of detailing and finish is very impressive, even considering its bargain price. (Why buy a $40 El Cheapo when you can have the real deal?) Somehow it looks far more refined than in the pictures, but still with a practical military look. (Maybe the polished finish helps here too, rather than the brushed low reflection finish traditionally found on military watches.) The numbers are finely engraved and not too big. The dial is jet black (chrono is more charcoal) and has the same beautiful red second hand from the chrono. I wish the minute hand was longer so it indexed closer to the minute/hour markings, but that may not bother many users. Its still very readable at a glance, and the second hand indexes perfectly with the markings. (Some reviewers have said otherwise so maybe Citizen has a QA issue here.) Night time luminescence is adequate rather than brilliant. The crown and guard are well executed and the crystal is very clear and distortion-free. Even the case back is beautifully laser-etched with the makers logo and model details. (The "cheap sticker" that some reviewers complain about is a removable protective film only.) The size is just right; not a "clunker" but with enough depth and diameter to feel substantial enough. Accuracy is very good and the day-of-the-week feature is a useful bonus. (BTW, day and date are more legible than on the chrono model.) The Spanish day for the wee-hours adds to its charm, although Spanish-speakers can of course adjust it so that English appears as the "minor" language in the early hours. How many watches can claim to be bi-lingual? Ole! Yes, I know, the green canvas band will not please everyone. For me it was too short (used last hole) and the riveted holes are too widely spaced apart; either too loose or too tight. But that can be forgiven as in every other respect, this watch is fantastic value and its not hard to find an inexpensive band to replace it. (Mine looks great in an inexpensive and quickly fitted down-and-under one piece nylon band with adjustable buckle: for me, olive green for weekends and black for work.) If you wanted a classier-looking leather band, this watch has the looks to carry it off. I have quite a few watches in my little collection, and this is my wear-everday-everywhere favourite: right size, right looks and right feel, all with accuracy and the reassurance that with Eco-Drive, the power wont suddenly die on you in the middle of nowhere! Larry (Sydney, Australia) Top Notch Watch This is my work watch, it keeps good time with no batteries or winding. Its thin and sharp looking, I like the easy to read simple face. Just place it under a lamp when it arrives, let it charge as per directions. Its a five star to me. no-frills Eco-Drive This is the first Citizen that Ive noticed under $100. I ordered it and received it on the day promised. The green canvas strap is terrible, no matter, I had plans to put a metal band on it before I got it. So far, Im pleased with the watch. The hands line up perfectly but I am disappointed with the luminescent glow,or lack thereof. of the hands. I was expecting much more and for it to last longer. Oh well. Its still a nice watch. Ive had it three days now. An amazingly elegant and long-lasting watch! My girlfriend (now wife) gifted this watch to me in mid 2004. Since then Ive used it on and off. In between, I did not wear it for about 1.5 years and last year when I brought it out of its hiding place it was not running. Amazingly, after half a day of sunlight it was running again. Before and after, it has always been pretty accurate for past 5.5 years! It is a very simple yet a very elegant looking watch which matches with most of the clothing - outdoor, casual and even business casuals. And its Green!!! THomas,Santa Ana Califrnia I just bought this Citizen Eco drive, It look very sharp and nice more than I think, It not heavy, easy to wear. I recomend to who looking for the watch for last long without chaging batery or automatic that you have keep moving you twist to keep the time alive. Simple, Rugged and Classic I bought this watch in Mid 2008. It has lasted me on my trips to India, Costa Rica, and, now, Mexico. I think, the watch is a classic: great to look at and simply tough. I have swum in the ocean with it, regularly done laps in a swimming pool, yet it has stayed waterproof. I would normally give a four-star because the mineral has chipped twice; though the watch has retained water resistance. Yet, given the price and what it has been through, it is a five-star watch. Eco-Drive is excellent! I love simple, elegant devices. This one fits the bill. Previously owned a Seiko Kinetic, which I loved for the fact that it was electric yet powered by wrist movement-- so accurate yet batteryless. The Eco-drive watches are similar, but solar, not wrist-powered. In about 20 minutes of fading winter sunlight, the watch was good to go. Only critique I have is that the mineral scratched nearly immediately. However, I calibrated the watch with an atomic clock app, and since I did that a few weeks back it hasnt lost a single second. Thats pretty sweet. Its a little on the thick side but not overly so. If you want svelte, this is not it. But other reviewers complaining about the band are off the mark-- the band is a bit stiff, but functional and not uncomfortable. Despite the waterproof claims, I wouldnt take the watch swimming. Anyway, the band (which is canvas) couldnt take the water, especially seawater. All in all, a very nice watch. If youre considering a Casio Solar-Atomic, skip it and go for this watch. Much classier, probably just as accurate. trust is the best bewteen people Citizen Mens Eco-Drive Canvas Strap Watch #BM8180-03E by Citizen is one of the best watch that my family have seen Great watch for the price! This is the first new watch Ive purchased in many years, and so far, I love it. A handsome, but simple and easy-to-see face with day and date, with accurate timekeeping. I get the impression from other reviews that a lot of guys got this watch for the same reason I did....sick and tired of watches that die after 12 to 24 months and then spending anything from $5 to $10 to install a new battery. The Citizen Eco-Drive is charged by the sun (or indoor light), so its enviromentally friendly. The one thing that kept the watch from getting 5 stars, and the very gripe others have expressed, is the band. Im a slender guy, with smaller-than-average wrists, and even on my arm, the band was too small, with no happy medium. At the 2-hole setting, it will stay on my wrist, but moves around. At 3 holes, it cuts off the circulation. There are 7 holes total, and I cant imagine anyone, not even an extremely petite woman or very small child using the 7th hole. Citizen must have designed this using those ultra-slim Asian wrists in mind (Citizen is based in Tokyo). They should really consider giving this otherwise excellent watch a different band. A Good Watch This is a good looking watch. It gains about 2 seconds per week which is good for a low priced quartz watch. I like the green canvas band with leather lining. The watch band is almost too short. Someone with a large wrist will find they will have to replace it with a longer band. If it came with a longer band I would have given it 5 stars. This watch far exceeded all my expectations. I had been looking for a watch with a canvas strap in a military style. I previously bought a Seiko 5 SNK (the band did not fit my thin wrist) and a Smith&Wesson military watch (inferior quality), but was unsatisfied with both. The Citizen Eco-Drive Canvas Strap Watch far exceeded both those watches and my own expectations. Below is a quick walkthrough of all the details I love about this watch. - Size: As mentioned earlier, I have relatively thin wrists. The band on this Eco-Drive fit perfectly. In fact, there was still an extra grommet left after strapping it on! A perfect watch for all sizes. - Band: The band is not cheap! It is sturdy, with leather backing underneath and finely stitched together. The olive green color makes it look like what one imagines a military watch resembles. It is indeed a fashionable watch, if a bit muted in that regard (which is positive). - Case: The case measures roughly 37-38mm. A medium size, as far as watches go. I was concerned that the watch would look too big on me, as I typically go for watches with a smaller case size. The case size is perfect, resting on my arm in a seemingly natural manner. The face itself displays only the necessary details. And the red second-hand is an amazing touch. - Mechanism: I love the use of solar power to operate this watch. The watch is not loud at all; indeed, it is fairly silent. I have owned the watch for almost three weeks now and have not seen the watch fall behind or go forward in time. Such precision for such little cost. - Style: Despite its military looks, this is one fashionable watch. Great with casual wear or with more sophisticated flare. Ive found it not just to be a perfect watch, but a perfect accessory as well. Overall, I would recommend this watch without hesitation to anyone looking for a military-style watch. I cant state enough good things about this Citizen Eco-Drive. I have been completely satisfied with it and hope to have it for a long time. Great watch, built well, looks great For less then $100 you will not find a better watch, it has everything I wanted and nothing I didnt. The face is easy to read at a glance both day and night, the watch held true from spring to fall DTS time changes within 2 seconds according to [...] not much more you could ask for. Simple and functional utility watch. Originally, I intended to return this watch after seeing another eco-drive watch with a perpetual calendar, but decided to keep it. The watch is your typical military-style watch. Reading the other reviews, I was concerned about the band. I had the impression that it would be a flimsy green strap made of a thin fabric. I was relieved to find that the strap is ideally what I expect for a military style watch. The band is stiff and strong. I doubt itll be a problem for anyone and dont quite understand why some people report issues with it. The hands dont quite align with the markings, still on the 12:00 position, the hand seem to align well with each other. And its not a deal breaker, but the minute and hour hand doesnt "tick" into the mark, it slowly sweeps. And... as another reviewer had mentioned. These Eco-drives are quiet. Possibly noise-less. I suppose its because theyre really digital watches masked with a analog look. The day/date function took me a extra day to set. Oddly, it doesnt change at 12 or 1AM, but at about 4AM. Nice simple styling I wanted a simple everyday watch with nice styling. This watch looks more expensive than it was. Had considered the retro timex from JCrew but this was better looking and $40 less. Plus it is an eco-drive. Nice watch. great every day watch Nice enough looking for business casual, informal enough for weekend wear. Keeps good time. Nice looking, comfortable. No battery is nice. Band is fine for me. Nice, plain watch I like the watch. The band is a little on the casual side, but changing it could dress the watch up considerably. I like the straightforward, simple black face with clear numbers, nice visibility at night. And the solar power should be fine. Great watch, okay canvas strap Citizen has nailed the whole solar-powered genre. This watch is a fine timepiece that is simple, elegant and beatiful. You might notice that the watch is paired with a number of other bands. I doubt many people simply go with the included watchband. It is a bit bland. The watch is near perfect. Great crystal, great timekeeping, and you would have to know that it was a solar powered watch to notice where the solar cells are! Excellent timepiece! Good value, quality product Very nice watch for the price. The band is a bit stiff when you first get it, bit quickly conforms to your wrist. Love it now. Cant beat the price. John love it!!! It is light and thin. Being in the military is is hard to find a watch that is tough enought to stand the rigors of training and still function as designed. I have found that in this watch. You never have to change a battery, it will fit on your wrist without catching on a military uniform, and light enough that you cannot feel it. I love the canvas strap. It can put up with water and oil better than leather. The only draw back is that it is very simple, i.e. no alarm or stop-watch, but if you can remember a starting time, you should not need it. Not a durable as hoped. This watch was on order within an hour of discovering it. Its perfect old-school military looks, its size, and the reliable brand didnt give me any qualms about buying without reading any reviews. As you can see from the watchs ratings, reviews would not have deterred me anyhow. Obviously, and hopefully, my experience was entirely different than most owners. When the watch arrived it was exactly as I was expected. Looked beautiful, was lightweight, comfortable, and super easy to read. A five second Surefire blast had it easily readable for the next two hours in the dark. The first thing to show up that disappointed me was how easily it was scratched. Not just the glass, but all metal surfaces too. When I finally put the watch in a drawer permanently, it was so scratched as to be unreadable from any angle other than looking straight down on it. This was at the six month point. I had already been slightly annoyed with it for the previous five months, because once the first month of owning it rolled over, it was not able to be set to the proper date, no matter who tried. Ive owned several analog watches in the past that I was able to set the date easily on, but not this one. I was in Iraq, so was unable to take it to a dealer to let them try, but now that Im home and could, I dont bother. The third negative was the watchband took on a sweat smell within a month that couldnt be washed out. I still love to look at it when looking at new watches, but wont be trying another one. BTW, I replaced it with a Seiko 5 SNK809K2 Military, and the negatives I experienced with the Citizen were not an issue with the Seiko. It proved to be superior in every way, other than looks. Nice watch for a great price I like the watch. Very light, durable and stylish. I did not like the canvas band at all. The band was really stiff. I changed it immediately to a plain black band. It actually enhanced the look. Good bargain, nice watch. Excellent watch Keeps great time. Also canvas strap now has a thin leather backing - makes it a bit rough textured but helps stop canvas rotting after exposure to sweat. Crystal has not scratched after 3 months. It would have been better if numbers glowed in dark, rather than just dots. I'm never disappointed in Citizen Over the years I have come to own 6 Citizens eco drives. The only problem is the cost of them, but even in hard economic times they have come through again. My work watch, lost the main stem and water oame in, well thats the end of the watch. It was over ten years old and I was very rough on it. It cost me $110 when I was on a cruise down in the Carrabean. I thought It was a good price back then. When that watch broke I knew I did not have the money to replace it. I had little money to buy a new one. But low and behold I was able to find an Eco drive in my price range, cheep. I was able to get this one and I am very pleased with it. What eles can I say it is worth every penny. Thanks again Citizen. You cant go wrong with this watch.....try it youll like it.... Great Watch This watch is excellent. I like everything about it including the band. The watch hands and the hour numbers on the face are perfectly sized so you can quickly see the time. Finally, I have a watch that charges from outdoor or indoor light, so I dont have to worry about buying replacement batteries. Great watch This is an absolutely great watch. The face is very easy to read, it is very precise, like most quartz movements. The day and date are easy to read and click over at about 12 am. The only "gripe" I have is that the otherwise excellent band is a little too small and the holes are too far apart. It either fits too loosely or too tightly. I dont think a person with a big arm would like the band or be able to use it. Citizen Men's Eco-Drive - - Awesome Watch!!! This is the perfect everyday watch. It is comfortable, easy to put on, easy to read,it keeps the date and it looks good. Even more impressive is that it charges in light, so there is no need to look for replacement batteries. Ive had this watch for approximately 3 months now and I would definatly recommend it and would buy another. poor quality The quality is terrible. Ive tried two of this model. The first one failed on the next day after arrival--the date/weekday wheels can no longer rotate. Amazon replaced it for free. But the same problem appeared in a few months. I had to let it sleep on my desk for several weeks until recently it fell off and the fragile glass cover broke into pieces. Perfect combination of features, size and price. I was looking for a casual watch with an easy to read dial for daily use. This one caught my eye due to its appearance and reasonable price. I purchased the watch from Amazon and received it promptly (as usual - thanks Amazon!). I dont have huge wrists and some of the current watches are just too large. This one is a nice size, the way all watches used to be (Im old :-). Ive had it for several weeks now. It keeps perfect time, so far. Ive managed to accidentally bump or scrub the crystal a couple of times already - wiped it off - no scratches! I like the Eco-Drive feature since it means I may never have to change the battery, which usually compromises a watchs water resistance. The band was stiff to start with, but is now conforming nicely to the shape of my wrist and is comfortable to wear. Im not sure why the leather backing is there. It seems like the band would be even more comfortable without it. Perhaps to increase longevity. I love its simple design. The hands and numerals are large enough to see at a glance and glow very brightly in low light (Im prepared for this to diminish over the years). The function, build, fit and finish are perfect with one minor exception. Its something that amazes me, but seems to be common to almost all quartz movement watches. As the second hand ticks, it doesnt land exactly centered on the line or number. On my particular watch, it stops just a bit before the mark. If you look at 20 quartz watches in ANY price range (except for the very rare ones which have a "smooth movement" sweep second hand) you may find one with a second hand that appears to land dead center on the lines or numbers. I received a $1,000 (TH) watch as a gift a couple of years ago. It does the same thing, only worse than this one. Bottom line: A very nice looking watch with great features, especially the Eco-Drive, at a reasonable price. Its not for bragging rights, its for knowing the time of day (day and date too). nice, easy to read watch with eco-drive, poor band I purchased this watch quite a while ago and like it - with exception of the horrible band; it is a fairly narrow (18mm) cloth band, with holes for adjustment. I havent really used the watch yet, looking to replace the supplied band with wider metal or Velcro band. The supplied band is 18mm wide all the way; there must be an alternative that fits the 18mm mount but gets wider past the band mount. With better band the watch would get 5 stars from me. Overall a great deal on easy to use easy to read Citizen watch, as long as you dont mind an ugly narrow band or are willing to replace it. EDIT: Replaced the nylon/cloth strap with twenty-five dollar stainless steel band; love the watch now, 5 stars. Ill post the image side by side with nylon strap for comparison. solid, quality watch Bought this item about 9 months ago, and it has been great. Keeps perfect time, and I really like having the day and date display. The only complaint I could have would be the canvas band, which gets kinda skunky after extended wear. No big deal though, just soak it in a baking soda/water mix for a couple hours and let it dry out. Great timepiece! I wear a watch so Ill know the time ... not to impress people. However with this watch I think I do a little of both. The watch is extremely accurate .. gains only a few seconds a month according to USNO time service .. Its also a very handsome watch. I like the fact that Ill never have to replace a battery. I would prefer not having the "plastic" band sewed to the back of the nylon band, but have gotten used to that feel. Great Watch Love this watch. I always get tons of compliments on it, and its really durable. Setting the date can be a little tricky, but other than that, I have no complaints. citizen watch eco- drive I bought this watch about one month ago. It keeps perfect time so far and the hands line up very well. I like the fact that it will not need a new battery. The strap is ok. I will use it with this strap and put something else on it when it wears out. DAINTY A little smaller than expected. Although there are plenty of pictures here to help one decide, its hard to capture how small, thin and light it is on a normal sized wrist. I actually have a thin wrist and it still looked small on mine. I was scared to hit it on something and break it. The size of it all makes the holes on the band look bigger by comparison and kinda fad-ish. LIke something a teenage girl would wear. Cant speak for the performance, only the way it looks once its on your wrist. Returned it and got a swiss army garrison watch that seems to be a beter fit and built sturdier. Nice Day To Day Watch After doing a little research Eco-Drive seemed like a good way to go. I also have an automatic watch and to keep it going ended up getting a winder, with Eco-Drive no such expensive accessory is needed. Personnally, I do not like the band but a quick trip to the mall resolved that and I am happy with the rubber strap I got. A leather strap would have given it a more formal look, but I wanted more a casual look. The luminous hands do not glow as strongly as I expected, or would like, but you can read it. Setting it took several days because of the day/date combination. First time the day changed and not the date, then the date and not the day. Finally got it and it has been fine ever since. In addition to English abbreviations there are French days as well. When you push the adjuster back in there is a one second delay before the second hand moves. After two weeks it is less than two seconds off the NIST time I used to set it. Build quality is very good and the dial is aligned perfectly and very easy to read in daylight. Overall, I recommend this watch. Big Bang for the Buck As a former US Air Force aircrew member, I am obsessed with precise time. The Citizen meets the mail. It stays within one second per week, which is GREAT!!!! I was concerned about the canvas band, but it has a leather backing and stays firm, not the flexible canvas I was expeting. The only suggestion I could think for improvement is to have the face white with black numbers, but to be accurate, the black face with white numbers is easy to read. first impressions ive only owned this watch for about an hour, so i cant speak for its overall durability / longevity. size: this is the smallest of all the eco drive watches. i liked the style of some of the others better, but increased size seriously harms a watchs ergonomics for me. its 4.5mm narrower and 2mm thinner that the next smallest eco drive. the face looks to me like a standard sized face, and the thickness is thicker than some. it definitely isnt a thin / slim watch. style: this is a very basic watch. if you are looking for something flashy, this isnt the one for you. this watch has the style of low-key quality. i would have preferred a brushed metal finish over the shiny one it has. band: theres a lot of complaints about the band. yes, its a canvas band. if you dont like canvas bands, you wont like this one. the entire style of the watch focuses on "eco", and the green canvas band fits into that perfectly, IMHO. the band is very stiff out of the box, but a few seconds of flexing improved it greatly. i can imagine that it will be fairly supple in a few days. in contrasts to some fashion trends, the band is quite narrow. some people have complained about the length of the band. i have a smaller-wish mans wrist, and im about right in the middle hole. the band is not 100% canvas; it has a thin (black) leather backing. this bothers me a little. its important to me that the band can get wet. theres no way i can remember to take off a watch in the shower every day, or when i jump in the pool. ill probably just take it in the water anyway. other thoughts: watches with a day-only (not month) date have always bothered me. usually i need to know the date at the beginning of the month, and of course theres a 50-50 chance or so itll be wrong then. id rather it not have a date at all. for anyone with concerns about it keeping a charge: from the eco-drive website, it can keep time for 6 months on a full charge, and after 20 years the battery should have 80% of its capacity. Citizen's Eco Drive w/ canvas strap. I like this watch a lot and gave it five stars, even though I havent owned it all that long, yet. I was attracted to its looks and the underlying technology. I gave this watch five stars because of the eco-drive tech that you get for the price. It has a clear and very easy to read dial and an eye-popping second hand. The dial has the usual numbers 1 through 12 on the inside of the dial to indicate the hours, with the outside of the dial numbered in smaller numbers with the minutes. Date is at the three oclock position. The Eco-Drive system basically means to me that I wont have to worry about getting a new battery - ever. I just have to wear it once in a while, or leave it on the windowsill a couple hours and its ready to go. I have about ten watches of different types and they all need batteries. Inevitably, just when I want to wear one the battery has died and I cant wear it. I work in tech and I like things that just work and work well. Citizen also has a great reputation, so buying this to check it out was an easy decision. Also, water resist to 100m - basically means unless I go diving with it, and I dont dive, Im good to go. Ive read the reviews where people were unhappy with some function or with the watch strap. The manual is kind of thick, but only because its written in about four or five languages. I read the first five pages of the English part of the manual and understood what I needed to do to get this thing to work properly - very simple. As for the band - well, it is pretty simple, but you could basically tell that from the picture. I do like the metal eyelets in the strap; very secure kind of strap Ive never noticed on a watch before. I bought this to have a durable, accurate everyday watch, so I wasnt looking for a delicate leather band which will just stain over time or a heavy metal bracelet. The band is quite adequate for this kind of watch, but I did buy a Maratac NATO watch band as suggested by someone else. I had never heard of Maratac bands, but I do like the one I got and Ill switch this watch over to that band eventually. The band is a bit stiff initially, but thats to be expected. Not necessarily a design flaw. It will soften up with use, just like all the leather watch bands Ive owned before. For years Ive always limited myself to cheaper watches like a Timex and I dont know why. I like the Timex I own, but there is a big difference between a $35 watch and one that cost just a little more in terms of looks and functionality and design and style. Very tempted to pick up the chronograph version of this watch at some point. Great watch for the Cost I have had this watch for just over four years. Mine is accurate to within 4 seconds a month, and has run flawlessly every since I got it. It is an eco-drive that never needs a battery change. It has a deep black face and a red second hand and white minute/hour hands that stand out very well. Also, it has very good luminesence, ten seconds under a bright light and it will glow for at least a couple hours, the numerals included. It is water resistant to 100 meters and is made of polished stainless steel. You will either love or hate the band, olive green nylon with large steel reinforced eyelets and a soft black leather backing. I immediately replaced mine with a quality leather 19 mm band. If you like or want a medium to large watch you may want to keep looking, this one is about 37 or 38 mm diameter (not including the crown) so is on the small side, its merely a matter of preference. Bottom line, for the price it is a teriffic buy and by all the reviews and the fact that it is still being produced after several years, it is a popular watch. Addressing a few negative reviews This is my second eco-drive. I broke my fist eco-drive swimming in the ocean. I read a few negative reviews about this watch before I purchased it, but I decided to take a chance anyway. So far I am very happy with this watch. The following are a few reviews I would like to address: "my second hand is a few hairs off." - I do not have this issue. My second hand is spot on. "The mineral crystal appears to be pretty thin. I havent scratched the glass yet (thats what it sounds like) but I suspect itll scratch pretty easily." - I have not noticed this. My first eco-dive never had a scratch and I worked construction while wearing it. "The crown does stick out just a wee bit too far." - I had the same problem with my first citizen watch, and this one is about the same, but it does not really bother me. "the inside of the sleeve is NOT sewn, but GLUED" - This is true. I have not had a problem yet, but I know how to use a needle and thread if something should go wrong. "Second hand moved in 2-second increments rather than one second movements" - Read your instructions. This happens when the watch is not getting enough sunlight. Set it out in the sun for a few minutes. Problem solved. "Could not set the day of the week on the day/date calendar." - Again, read the little booklet that comes with the watch; it explains how to change the day/date quite well. Adding a little bit to the list of complaints--The band on this watch is a little bit uncomfortable. It is rigid and causes a light abrasion on my arm. It is not really an issue, but if you are a bit of a pansy; I would avoid this watch. That being said, this watch is suited more for girlie men because the strap is very small. I have small girlie wrists and this strap fits me perfectly. I would avoid this watch if you have large wrists. Overall I really like this watch, but it is probably not for everyone. I'm Likin It Its kinda paramilitary looking, rather lightweight due to the canvas strap. Easy to setup and almost completely maintenance free. I will never have to buy another watch battery again. Its not a watch that requires a "watch winder" either like the Perpetual Rolex watches (I had a Rolex and sold it on eBay). This Citizen Eco-Drive was sub-$100, arrived quickly from Amazon.com in less than 24 hours since Im an Amazon Prime member. Great purchase--Highly recommended. Great Watch I have owned this watch for three months- I work outside and it gets clunked around all day long yet still looks good and has held up fine. Strap is comfortable and wears well. Would recommend highly. Excellent watch. No problems. Some facts. First of all some people have said that Citizen did not etch the back of the case and only put a sticker on with the watch information. This is false there is a sticker over the etching for protection only. Peal the sticker back and you will see it is in fact etched. The band is quite stiff, it is nylon but backed with leather. However I did replace the band as I do with most watches with a Maratac Mil Series band which is a 1 piece band which adds a bit a comfort and security. Security in the sense that if one of the pins fails the watch will not be lost, it will just flop back and forth on your wrist. The watch itself is great. Its been running for a little over a week now and has not lost a second. I checked it against time.gov for reference. The illumination isnt as good as say tritium but will last about 5 hours which is usually enough for most people. I have not been able to test the watch for water resistance below about 10 feet but at 10 it held fine during my 2 hour swim. For the price it is a very decent watch, the only thing lacking is the band but for most people that will not be an issue. No Problems with Canvas Strap After a little over a month of repeated outdoor use, I have yet to see (or smell) any problems with the canvas strap. The strap does look cheap, but its perfect for working outside. Im ordering a cheap ($15 to $20) leather strap that Ill use for special occasions. Works as expected The eco-drive works great and has never stopped even though I may not wear it for days at a time. The strap is thinner than I expected (so is the face) so it is lighter than my old watch. My only complaint is that the notches on the strap are too far apart. On my wrist it is too loose on one notch but also too tight on the next notch. It is not a big deal however. Nice watch I like knowing that I will not need to replace the battery on this watch. Very easy to read and unobtrusive on your wrist. The inside of the band is leather lined. Not So Great There were three things wrong with the watch when received - 1.Second hand moved in 2-second increments rather than one second movements, giving 5 beats during 10 seconds. 2.Second hand did not register correctly on the second markers. 3.Could not set the day of the week on the day/date calendar. May have been a bad watch(quality control?). Plan on replacing the band. I really wanted it to work, but returned for credit and will try another brand. A good watch. I bought it with no regrets. Ill give you the summary at the top of my review: The watch is a quality timepiece in look and feel. It is accurate by just over a second fast per week. The second hand is almost perfectly aligned with the minute marks but so close that the difference is inconsequential. I bought it and am happy with it. The band I ended up replacing. Now for the in-depth review: I stumbled upon this watch because I was looking for a green canvas watch band. I guess that is a little backwards when looking for a watch. I wanted a watch with a military look, sort of like an Army field watch. I wore the watch for a week with the canvas band but I found it to be scratchy. The band is thin too. Some people commented about the band smelling over time. Wash the band if this becomes a problem. I washed it to see what would happen and I had no problems. The watch looked a little classier to me once I got it compared to the pictures, and the band, the very thing that attracted me to the watch, just didnt match the finish of the watch. I gave it a week but I ended up replacing it with a brown leather band from Speidel at Sears. This totally changed the look of the watch making it look more refined but surprisingly still military. Think WWII aviator style in looks. (Speidel 18mm, TrailMaster, SKU Number: 70527520) The watch is very easy to read in all light conditions. The high-contrast white on black is great in all light and the luminous coating on the numerals and hands is excellent at night. The body has both polished and brushed metal and the crystal is not recessed. This is my only concern with the watch since I tend to bang into things. If I were able to redesign the watch I would have made it all brushed metal with a recessed crystal and a different band. Dont take that as a regret. I would still buy the watch if I were able to hold it before buying it. The watch is totally silent. No ticking. I have very good hearing and I couldnt detect any sound. Perhaps with a stethoscope... The watch needed charging when I got it so I ended up walking around during lunch on a bright sunny day while wearing the watch. For my watch, five minutes was enough to get it going. However I kept it bright sun for a few hours the following day and the watch got rather hot. The accuracy is now stable but the first two days it seemed to gain time by a second a day. I think this is because the watch got hot and temperature can affect the internal crystals accuracy. Also, the battery voltage was changing by a large amount and this probably also affects the accuracy. Now that I wear the watch normally and it is fully charged the accuracy is great. It gains a about a second every seven days. Not bad. Some people remarked that all the hands dont line up with the marks on the watch face. You control the alignment of the hour and minute hands when you set the watch. The seconds hand accuracy is a matter of manufacturing. Mine is almost perfect. Im very picky (obsessed) about this sort of thing usually so I did notice that it wasnt absolutely perfect. It is close enough that any non obsessed person wouldnt even notice. I find it acceptable. Your mileage may vary. I wanted this watch for the band but ended up replacing that part. I would have given five stars except for the band. However, replacing the band can change the look of the watch to suit your style. I may end up changing the band to one of carbon fiber. Amazon sells one from Hadley-Roma (MSM840RA-180) Very cool looking. The watch was supposed to be delivered second day but was delayed two days. Amazon made it right by refunding the extra fee I paid for second day delivery. Ive never had a problem before so I chalk this up as a glitch. If you are on the fence over this watch, get it. A Fine Timepiece at a Bargain Price Its only about three weeks this fine watch has been on my wrist so I dont have extensive experience with it. But I can say this -- since I got everything adjusted (day, date and time), its run like a charm, with the correct time every time I look (I dont know what its doing when I dont look!). Aside from these essentials, the watch is handsome. And the $81 price is a very fair one. I checked it out on the other services and Amazon priced it right. Give ourself (or someone else) a nice gift for not too much money. You wont be disappointed. Not the best choice... 1. I recently purchased this watch for an upcoming trip, where I would need something reliable and dependable, but nothing fancy. The watch arrived a couple days before my departure, and I was immediately disappointed with the band. For a mens watch, this is a very flimsy, feminine looking band. 2. Band was changed for black rubber, then I realized the date/calendar function was no longer working. On checking the website, there are some special instructions for setting this function. PAY CLOSE ATTENTION TO THESE, as they are not like standard watches and failure to follow WILL result in damage to the watch. 3. This watch is apparently so cheaply built Citizen doesnt even stamp the back of the case with mfg information, but just applies a sticker. A STICKER?!?! Come on, even Timex stamps the case backs. I have been buying Tissot watches in the past, with great results, but wanted to try Citizen this time. My mistake. Back to Tissot for me! Great Purchase! I purchased this watch 10 months ago from Amazon. It is a great watch, especially for the price. It is extremely accurate and easy to set. It solves my big problem with quartz watches - that you usually have to get the battery changed periodically, and therefore you have to open it up. You dont have to do this with the Citizen watches. It strikes a good balance between "sport" and "office," hence, I wear it all the time, even at the expense of my Omega Constellation. Sure, the strap that comes with it is stiff and cheap looking, but 18mm leather bands are available all over the place for very reasonable prices. Nice time piece, inexpensive and smart looking Thrilled to bits with this purchase... Hadnt worn watches for years because I always had a Mobile Phone to let me know what time it was... So for some oddball reasons I recently went back to wearing a watch and while I did consider Automatics or Mechanical watches, a good quality Automatic/mechanical watch does cost a fair bit to purchase and requires maintenance eventually. I came across the Citizen Eco-Drive and it had the features I needed (day/date) with five year warranty for a very reasonable price and driven by light, so I was certainly intrigued. So Im very pleased thus far and while Ive read a few comments about the strap, all I can say is I have relative large wrists and it fits fine for me... The display is sharp and easy to read (even at night) and best of all Ill never have to replace the battery which has been the downfall of my previous watches... Once that back was off the other quarts watches to replace batteries, I would always have moisture issue (yes, Im in an environment with lots of moisture). So I think this Citizen ECO drive model is a winner and have recommended the Citizen to a friend and at the price, how can you go wrong ? Striking classic watch design This is a striking classic watch design with a jet black dial and an elegant red second hand. Id recommend (as others have) switching to a black band -- I chose a leather-backed carbon fiber design band (18 mm) that suits the watch. The date and day need to be set before noon or the date and day wont change properly; after all, the watch cannot tell whether it is morning or afternoon! And the date requires adjusting at the end of the month for 30-day months. The watch face is a tad larger than I thought it would be, but with a black band this is a handsome, rugged design that is not fussy, yet good-looking enough to wear with a jacket and tie in professional work settings. This watch is a good choice for those who dont want a lot of bells and whistles on their wrist. And its a genuine bargain! nice watch i am very pleased with the watch. it is first class the band, however was cheap and i replaced it immediately it was overall a very good buy not too flashy not too techy not too pricey not too cheap This is a perfect watch if you want to get away from the over-formal or over-sporty look all watches seem to have. Its not too big and its neither too flashy nor too techy. I think its priced about right too - if youre a grown up who isnt hugely rich or obsessed with watches, this technology should be what youre looking for. My second-hand almost points precisely to the relevant marks on the face: I bet that explains why some reviewers complain about it not pointing to those marks, and others praise it because it does. Oh, and its very comfortable for me to wear too. Enjoy! Quality At A Great Price Ive had this watch for over a month now and I have zero complaints. The watch is accurate, easy to adjust, very comfortable, and looks great. It has already been dropped twice, once by me and once by my labrador puppy, both on concrete. The watch has a couple tiny scratches on the side but still functions beautifully. Ive read a lot of complaints about the strap. I honestly dont see what the problem is. I found it to be comfortable and fairly well made. When it goes, Ill replace it with something else, but until then I think it works just fine. I love the day and date feature and the seconds hand seems to line up perfectly with all the seconds marks. I think of all the field style watches out there, this one stands out both for its quality and the uniqueness of the Eco-Drive system. The price isnt bad either. The only thing I might improve is the luminescence of the face. Its bright for around two hours and starts to fade after that. All in all, Im extremely happy with my purchase. I might even buy another for a back-up! Excellent Product! When I read the reviews for this product before purchasing it, I thought well Ill give it a try. The most common problem listed in the reviews were that of the band. How minor I thought, in which it can be changed out with little cost or hassle. Well, dont worry. The inside of the band is black leather, while the outside a handsomely stitched green nylon appearance with the rivetted buckling holes. Sure it asorbs water, but within 20-30 minutes its dry! I havent taken it off since it arrived. No problem with oder. Tells time perfectly. Yet, stylish enough for a man, but yet low key as not to draw attention to it. Good point, considering, I work and play downtown. Overall, 5 Stars. Excellent craftsmanship and good solid quality material. Great Watch, crappy band This is a very nice watch for the bucks. The band is horrible. Purchase the Mens Rubbertech (TM) Silicone Rubber Watchband and get rid of the original. The combo is then bullet proof. It keeps great time and has an understated elegance to it. Finally got an EcoDrive! I bought this watch sight unseen, and was very pleasantly surprised: perfect size, thickness and weight for my taste. It works great, no problems. Second had lines up with the tic marks reasonably well. Always seems fully charged. Band was uncomfortable and I swapped it for a black flex band, which looks great and feels much better. The night glow feature is very bright after exposure to a lamp, but fades a lot after several hours. Excellent watch, match what I was looking for Only thing I observed: I bought it for a month now. I calibrated it according to Internet time. It has become a few seconds ahead. I will need to see if it gets worse over time. Other than the above point, I am very satisfied. I like the following features: canvas band, large number on the dials and glows in dark, date and day of week, good looking and above all, no battery replacement required. Thanks to all other reviewers that posted the well-shot pictures. They helped me a lot when I was doing product research. Bottom line: nice watch, worth giving it a try. Good for the ladies too Ive had this watch for about a month now and I love it!! It says mens but I am a woman with a fairly thin wrist and it fits great. My favorite part, since Im a Spanish teacher, is that you can choose to have the days listed in Spanish or English! Some people complain about washing hands and the canvas strap: just dont get it in the water, people! It is simultaneously elegant and sporty; Ive worn it with dresses and jeans and a t-shirt and it didnt look out of place on either occasion. Totally worth the money when you consider that you will NEVER have to replace a battery! nice men's watch I really like this watch. It is great not having to change batteries. I did change out the band to a dressier leather one, but that is a plus as well that you can change the band. So many watches these days are useless if you dont like the band or it breaks. Good watch would recommend. Citizen Men's Eco-Drive Canvas Strap Watch The Citizen Eco-Drive watch is everything I expected, a great buy for a watch of this quality. The canvas strap is too stiff and the adjustment holes too far apart. The strap is unconfortable on the wrist. I replaced the canvas strap with a leather watch band which make wearing this fine watch much more comfortable. Good Watch I like this watch. It has what I call for in a watch - functionality. No compaints about the watch except perhaps for the strap that I, in time, will replace with a black leather strap. For the time being, it is just fine. What follows is not about the watch itself, but Ill add it anyway because it is about the buy: I wanted to order this watch from Germany. Amazon.com doesnt deliver watches to Germany. This watch is not in Citizen Europes product range. For reasons I do not know Amazon.de and Amazon.com apparently dont cooperate on orders, so this watch is practically unavailable in Germany. I only got my hands on this watch by ordering it to a friend, and then have him send it over here, which costs me time, organisational effort, shipment cost and US and German VAT. Amazon.com ought to seriously consider adding cooperation with the regional Amazon daughters to their service. Excellent Basic Watch Does what it needs to, tell time and date. I am a skinny white boy, and the band everyone bitches about fits me well and is very comfortable. The luminescent hands and markers are visible through the night. Very accurate timepiece. Overall Great Watch Ive been wearing this watch everyday for about a month now, and it hasnt disappointed me yet. Its got that industrial/outdoors look that just seems to go with whatever Im wearing. The band has a leather inside on it to prevent sweating and discomfort, which I thought was a great hidden feature. It keeps great time, loosing only about a second per week. Unfortunately, i received an older model, which has a slightly larger crown. Also, the second and minute hands do night align perfectly with the minute ticks on the face of the watch. If you look closely, this can appear to be a sign of poor quality, but that is not the case at all. The build quality is excellent. I would defenately recommend this watch and I plan on wearing it for years to come. Great watch---- crummy band----what's up with that? After reviewing the feedback on this watch and doing additional research, I ordered the watch. As per several reviews, the watch looks great but the band is pretty funky. A slim green canvas band with grommet covered holes. It does NOT compliment the watch in any way. I proceeded to my neighborhood WalMart and picked up a very nice brown band with black trim running the length of the band Speidel band that looks to be made from a composite material that is impervious to water and sweat. It is also a bit wider which sets the watch off quite nicely. If you want it, look for the Speidel Express SLT 240 in the 18MM width which fits the watch perfectly. If you want a great watch, here it is but you will definitely be replacing the band for sure. Thanks! Excellent Watch This is an excellent watch. The face looks great and its very easy to read. The numbers and arms glow brightly in the dark. The only downside is the band, it is very limited in the number of sizes available. Citizen Eco-Drive Good looking. Easy to read. Easy to see after dark. Canvas strap is very comfortable Citizen's watch This is a great watch that keeps time accurately. Its subtle, yet classy. Very satisfied! Very nice. This is an awesome watch. I have had it for around 3 years. There was a time period of about 4-5 months where I had lost it in my room and it was completely unexposed to light. When I found it the battery was dead. After just holding it in the soft light in my house it began ticking again within a minute. I set it out in the sun for a while and now its running strong. I also rough this watch up a bit. The glass is very resistant to scratches and I have no complaints about the band. Water resistance makes it even more versatile. Not really a fan I ordered the #AT0200-05E and the #BM8180-03E and I was disappointed with them both. My first complaint was these two watches diminutive size and weight. Also, I did not like that the case of the #AT0200-05E was brushed stainless on the sides but polished and shiny on top. I thought that the red on the second had and some of the lettering was a garish color to put on a watch. They were just not well done in my opinion which is something you want in a watch. In the past I have bought a Fortis Flieger Automatic which is a really nice watch and the only pain with the Fortis is that you have to take it in to get it cleaned every couple of years or it wont work correctly. I also have a Luminox 3000 Series dive watch which is also a really well done watch and the only pain with it is the wrist band is rubber and has to be replaced every year or two. The Luminox 3000 is lighter and only a little larger then the Citizen #AT0200-05E, but the Luminox LOOKS like a substantial object and next to it, the #AT0200-05E looks like a toy. Before you buy a Citizen, I think you should try a search for Luminox, they cost about $100 more but are well worth it. Great product Its unconventional by design. Its kinda outdoorsy and sporty by looks. Its for those who want a citizen eco drive with a trendy youth looks. A must have for watch enthusiasists. Citizen's Mens Eco-Drive Canva Strap Watch #BM8180-03E This watch was purchased because my Omega Seamaster was out for repair for 4 weeks. When it came back I wore it once and put the Citizen back on. It is my new favorite watch. It is light weight, keeps perfect time and looks great. The canvas band is absolutely no problem. Just what I was looking for When I started watch shopping, I wanted a tough, casual, and analog watch. The fact that it is solar powered is a plus. Previous watches that I have owned became ruined for not replacing the battery soon enough, and this watch takes care of that problem. On a sunny day I will leave it on the window sill to charge. I have owned it for a little over a month now and it is only about 1.5 seconds fast. I plan on resetting it when I have to readjust the date once every 2 months. The seconds hand does not line up exactly with the tick markings, but for my day to day use, it is not a big problem. Youll be hard strapped to find a watch for [...] bucks that does not have this problem. My previous watches didnt even have a seconds hand. Most people dont like the canvas band, but I happen to like it. The face seems to be pretty tough. There are no scratches at all, not even little ones. I am very happy with the watch. Citizen Men's Eco-drive watch Excellent watch. It is elegant, time is easy to tell even at night.Love the date option specially the Eco -Drive system. Service at Amazon is always great & reliable.Highly recommend this watch. Overall a good watch I have nothing but good things to say about this watch. It works perfectly, is easy to set, and has good style. I couldnt be happier with the purchase. A few things to know that may not come out in the pictures: 1. It is a fairly small watch. The face is normal size, but it is pretty thin. If you are looking for a substantial watch, this is not it. But if you are looking for a minimalist watch, this is perfect. 2. The band has grommets on it. When I bought it, the pictures on amazon did not show these. They seem to have put up more pictures that show the band. At first I didnt know how I felt about the grommets, but they have grown on me. 3. Although not substantial, the watch seems to be very durable. I have been wearing it everywhere for a year or so now, without any signs of wear. This includes the watch face and the band. Nice job, Citizen. A good timepiece, but the calendar has a problem It keeps the time perfectly, but the calendar failed to show the correct day once since I bought it last December. perfect watch for aging eyes Several things I like about this watch. No more replacing the battery. Easy to read dial. Not bulky on the arm, like some divers watch. Quartz accuracy. And 5 year warranty. So far I am satisfied with this watch. The price isnt bad considering the quality watch you get. Would recommend this watch especially to those with aging eyes. Perfect for what it does. This watch is fairly small and simple. If you are looking for a watch that is tough, simple, and a high quality timepiece. This one is worth a look. I have owned several Citizen watches and have been happy with all of them, this one is no exception. Clean and Casual So far, I have been very pleased with the watch (after wearing the watch for a few days...) I have fairly thin wrists and was worried about the watch being too big and heavy but it feels great and fits perfectly on my wrist. The canvas strap might probably start stinking after this summer as I will most likely be wearing this watch daily. If youre looking for that minimalist, classic, casual look this is a great timepiece to have. Outstanding timepiece!!!! i purchased this watch just prior to leaving for a cruise and i absolutely love it. it keeps great time and looks awesome. my only complaint, and it is a small one, is the band is a little short in length. i figure ill wear it and replace it with a black one down the road. all in all, i love this watch! A good watch Rugged and good looking, never needs winding or batteries and keeps excellent time. What more can one ask for? ecodrive i got this watch for a good price. the strap was not to my liking--it was fairly ugly and didnt fit. i found a nylon strap i liked much better. after a few days of fiddling with the day/date, i finally got it right. it keeps good time and i hope the battery lasts a long time. it will be nice not to change the battery every year. i get plenty of time in the sun, so keeping it charged is no problem. it is well made and simply styled--things i like. i recommend the ecodrive. Perfect complement to my dress eco-drive watch I bought this watch because I love eco-drive watches and I needed one for casual and rugged wear. This one fits my needs perfectly. The dial is simple and easy to read. The band is comfortable and rugged looking. Ive only had the watch for a couple of days so I dont know how the band will hold up. Considering casual/outdoor watchbands can be had for cheap, Im not worried. My new "every day" watch! This is a very nice watch, especially for the price. I hope it lasts as long as the technological discussion implies! The watch face seems slightly smaller than I expected, but thats probably a good thing in the long run for my purpose. The watch is reasonably thin, lightweight, and unobtrusive. The display is highly functional, somewhat in the style of a Swiss Army watch. Markings are all big, bold, clear, and to the point. I can read the day and date without eye correction (which is saying something in my case!). The watch was very easy to set, and now that Ive read the manual for about one minute, I will likely never need it again. This is a big contrast to my Invicta, where the manual really didnt describe my specific watch, and I will need some study time to reset it. The much-discussed band is on the small side. This watch must be intended as unisex, because the strap has enough adjustment holes to fit anything from a toddler to me! I am on the next-to-last hole. (By contrast, I had to remove 3 links from my Invicta.) I cant imagine any man needing the second free-floating strap keeper, and I cut mine off immediately. The strap is actually a little stiffer than I expected or would like, but it may break in, or I may replace it with some sort of sport band. Hardly a show-stopper. A simple classic I was looking for an understated casual watch and this fits the bill. To many watches today have huge faces and look oversize on the average wrist. The eco-drive is a plus. No batteries. The only criticisms I have are regarding the band. The adjustment holes are lined with stainless grommets, and because they are slightly thinker than the band, taking on and off is harder than usual. Also because they used canvas for the band instead of nylon, its lined with leather. That guarantees trouble if you sweat in it or get it wet. A nylon band would have been better. An easy fix, but one you shouldnt have to make. Love it, but photos need update. I own too many watches to admit owning, here. The Citizen Eco-Drive is one of my favorite product lines. I love my new watch; but, one of the photos on this site gives the impression that the reflectivity of the metal case IS NOT shiny--it appears to have a dull surface texture in one of the photos, which is my preference. No big deal really. Im an averaged size male, and the band is a bit small (this model marketed to children, or women, perhaps?) Ill probably replace it with a velcro strap. Go Citizen!!! Nice Watch For The Price This watch is very functional. Never needs a battery and keeps great time. I purchased it for a work watch since it is water resistant to 100 meters and not too dressy. I think its a great value for the price. Awesome watch I was looking for a military style watch, but didnt want it to look cheap or anything. I had narrowed it down to about three choices, but I always kept coming back to this one. You cant beat that its solar-powered, the face is a great design, the red second-hand is a nice... It keeps the time well, it hasnt shown any signs of scratches and theres been a couple times where I banged it up against something where I really thought it wouldve left a mark. I love the watch, couldnt ask for a better one for the price. Fast shipping, great packaging/service. I would def recommend this watch. Love my Citizen Eco-Drive Men's Canvas Strap Watch Im pleased with my purchase of the Citizen Eco-Drive Mens Canvas Strap Watch. I found, to my pleasure, that the watch was what I had hoped it would be: Good size, easy read, clean design w/o unfuctional clutter as seen with other watch designs, keeps great time, the only thing that would merit a better review would be a sporty rubber type band. Looks like an expensive pilot watch If you re looking for an aviation watch this citizen looks very similar to them. I have a small wrist and the size of this watch looks fine on it. Easy to read. I like the day date function. I own a smaller dress citizen and like the eco enegy system. The band I am going to change for a black leather brcause I am not crazy about the green canvass band. Highly recommend this watch Great watch, one BIG flaw that can be fixed I like this watch and am keeping it. So far, it seems to be quite accurate, and looks tough and functional without being too large or showy, as so many mens watches seem to be lately. There are two things to watch out for, though: The bands adjustability is in very coarse increments owing to the large and widely spaced grommets. It just happened to fit me really well; unless you have wrists that are identical, tiny, or much larger, your mileage will vary. Strangely, although I am slim, I am at the outer end of the bands range. It may not fit really large wrists. The BIG flaw is that the designer of the case must have had closet sadomasochistic tendencies, as the backside of the case where the band attaches terminates in four _quite_ sharp claws that face your tender flesh. One of them was biting into my wrist bone badly, and I actually got cut by another when the watch snagged on something at the gym. Having had enough, I sat down with the Dremel and a rubber abrasive wheel, took off the band and rounded off the claws, which took ten minutes and totally fixed the issue. If you are like me, thats no big deal, but not everyone is a modder. I probably voided the warranty by this minor mod. So caveat emptor, but otherwise I like the watch a lot. Well see how scratch-resistant and generally abuse resistant it proves to be in the long run, but my initial impression is of high quality and good value for $80. Minus one star for poor band adjustability and hidden evil design "feature". Overall Pleased small face size, lightweight, great for those who dont like "bulky" watches, had some trouble with the day/date setting, but fixed it after a few days--watch had am and pm mixed up....overall, very pleased with purchase. If you work nights like I do... then you can really appreciate this watchs dial. The number and hands including the second hand are clearly seen in the dark. My only complaint and suggestion to Citizen would be at add a military dial 13-24. There is plenty of room on the dial for the numbers. As with everybody else, I am not a big fan of the green wrist band. As soon as it wears out, I plan to replace it with a Black Speidel sports watch band similar to the type that I have on my other watches. I need an original replacement strap! If you replaced your strap with a different one, I am willing to buy your original strap. Thank you for your time. Citizen Eco-Drive Men's Canvas Strap Watch This is a great watch! Nice looking and of good quality. I found the canvas band totally acceptable. Great knock-around military style watch! Ive had this watch for a little over a week and I must say it is outstanding! All of the quality and reliability of a Citizen watch for about $80! On top of that it comes with the Eco Drive functionality and just plain looks great. The crown is quite thin and it is lightweight. It is thin enough that it wont block long sleeve shirts and jackets from covering it, but it is wide enough to make you aware of where the face is. It has a definitive military, masculine look to it. The band is more of a dark hunter green than an olive green. Despite what many others have said I actually like the band. The band goes a long way to giving it the military look and it is lightweight and breathes very well. Leather and especially rubber bands typically dont breath very well, if at all. This canvas band breathes well which leaves your wrist feeling comfortable. The hands are easy to read and the watch glows brightly in the dark. You can immediately tell that this watch is well made and is an excellent value for the money. I would challenge anybody out there to find a better quality and more reliable watch for $80. Spot On As advertised, the watch has all the features I need and the price was right. The directions were very clear and so far the watch keeps excellent time. My only quibble is the green cloth band. It is stiff and ugly. I will have to incur additional expense to get something more comfortable. perfect utilitarian timepiece I have a small wrist and the watch housing is a tad bit larger than Id like it to be, however its not as big as many you see on the market today. Other than that the watch is perfect. I really dont mind the canvas band. I think its funny that people have made such a big deal about it in their reviews. I wear it all the time. The hands glow, the numbers are clear, and you never need a battery, what more could a man want? This watch was purchased to replace a Skagen watch....Ill never buy a Skagen watch again. Thanks Citizen....a loyal fan of 1 month and counting the seconds. Citizen Eco Drive Canvas Strap Watch #BM8180-03E I recieved my watch and when opened was pleasantly suprised with the look of the watch. It keeps time great and is really good looking on my arm. The only thing that I did not like, and the reason I did not rate the watch as 5 star, was the band. The canvas band that came on the watch makes it look cheap. I replaced it with a black leather band and the watch looks and feels great on my wrist. I like the fact that I do not have to replace a battery also. Thanks for a fine product. Good value Pros: Easy to read Day of week is useful (and doesnt need adjusting each month) Should never need a battery Cons: Bigger and thicker than I expected Standard Watch band is ugly and needs to be replaced (add $15) No Batteries to change! I own an Omega watch which I wear during the week at work. I dont wear it on the weekends, and by Monday I have to wind it again. The Citizen eco-drive keeps good time, doesnt need to be wound, and needs no batteries. I put it on on Saturday, take it off on Sunday, and the next Saturday...it hasnt skipped a beat. I like the very casual look and low maintenance and I never worry about breaking it. Its a well built watch for a great price. date adjustment feature failed I purchased this watch about 6 months ago. With this kind of watch, after any month with fewer than 31 days in it, the number in its day-of-the-month window must be manually reset to 1, in order for it to display the correct numbers during the following month. Today (at the beginning of December) when attempting to reset that number, I discovered that its date-resetting function no longer operates. While Ive owned this watch, it hasnt been subjected to any trauma. The failure of its date adjustment feature seems to have been a spontaneous failure, in other words, which suggests to me that this models mechanism for adjusting the date is of poor quality. Citezen Eco-Drive wrist Watch Only owned this watch a short time, so I cant give too much testimony. I needed a rugged, smart looking, watch that needed no maintenance. For me, this fits the bill! Military looking with easy to read hands and a tough looking canvas band. If anything, the band is a bit too meaty with large metal eyelets enforcing the band buckle holes. Im hoping it wears in over time. I am disappointed that the hands nor the numbers glow in the dark! A feature that I wrongly assumed, with a timepiece at this price, would have. So far, it is the only thing I do not like about it. I plan on wearing this watch all the time and in and out of the water too. So, I will add to this review later. So far I love it! A good everyday watch The watch arrived and is as advertised. Online pictures are very accurate. The numbers are easy to read during the day or at night. The watch is very durable in terms of everyday usage. I have seen complaints about the strap before - I dont have very large wrists, so it fits me fine. However, I could see an issue if you had wide wrists. Overall - the watch is a great everyday watch that is reliable, durable, and also economical. Finally A Watch With All My Requirements This watch meets all my needs: attractive; easy to see time, day, and date at a glance; illuminated hands for viewing in poor light or in the dark; no need to replace battery; nice looking as a dress watch if you switch the band to black leather; its fairy thin and is lightweight. The band that comes with the watch is nice. Had I not needed a dress watch, I would have kept the band it came with. WARNING: The manufacturer gives explicit instructions that you should follow. Dont even try to set the day and date until the watch is FULLY charged. I hate manuals, but this manual means what it says. All will go smoothly if you follow instructions. I LOVE the watch. Accurate, clear, and rugged The crystal has lasted longer than any other watch I own; the band is comfortable and rugged, the face is very very clear and classy, and the mechanism is also the most accurate watch I own - about one second ahead every three days. Great watch. Band is no problem for me. I love this watch. Style is great. The band is fine. It fits well. It was a little stiff the first few days but easy to insert the end in the loop now. Ive had it about a month. I like the metal grommets both for style and function. Others complain about the band. I have no problems with it. There are 7 grommets. I fit best at the center one with three empty on each side. Small wrists? Maybe so. I always figured I had medium wrists. Regardless, this watch is great for me. A must change This watch is a gem. My only recommendation is to run out when you receive it and buy a black leather watch strap. Then you will be very, very satisfied. My new favorite watch! Im a watch junkie, and own around 30 watches of varying age and quality. For everyday wearing, this gorgeous little watch is absolutely perfect. The size is just right for my small to medium frame. As someone who needs reading glasses, its great to be able to look at my watch without putting the glasses on. The olive drab watchband is kind of stiff and really doesnt complement the watch unless youre going for that definite military watch look. Ive installed a baseball glove colored leather band, and it really looks great with the black dial watch. This watch is going to be with me for years. I cant believe that this excellent watch is only $80! LOVE IT, LOVE IT , LOVE IT I love the ecodrive brand and this one is just perfect. I like big watches and this is perfect for my small wrist. Awesome product - Value for Money this is one I liked at first go... its look and Olive green strap is coooool amazing quality and finishing. The product is Good value for Money.. the WoW part is I dont have 2 change batteries.. No worries for life now..Great Product Good watch I like the watch but I changed the band for about $10, a flex one that I can just slip on and off. The fact that there is no need for a battery change is a big, big plus; and so far it seems to keep accurate time. I do have a much better watch but I wanted this for everyday wear. All and all Im pleased with my purchase and Amazon has been most effecient in its dealings with me. It does what it should and looks nice. Whats to say, Ive had this watch for about 2 months now. I wear it everyday. Love it, its nice looking. Solid, water resistant, and does not scratch easily. One of the best watches Ive owned in a while. It does what it should and looks nice. good military stylish watch Its very beautiful and accurate, looks very like the IWC Mark XV or Big Pilot, simple and clear, and its a light-driven quartz watch, not an automatic watch, of which I cannot bear with the daily error. Fantastic watch!!! I repeat Fantastic Watch!!! I really like this watch and it is really comfortable. I was hesitant in purchasing a new watch and did not want one that I had to keep replacing the battery and also did not want one that I had to keep remembering to wind either. So far keeps great time and day and date feature working great as well. To those who keep having trouble with the day and date part if you read the instructions carefully you should have no further problems with setting same. I will say that the band is a little iffy. I too dont like the large riveted holes in the band and would like to see them smaller but I did not want a leather band so I can live with that complication. NOT FOR ME I purchased this Eco-Drive and was disappointed. The face was too small and cluttered, and the day/date were barely readable. I decided to upgrade to the BM640000E, and couldnt be happier. A very nice watch for $81 Very gorgeous watch in person. Im used to the heft of my ball fireman watch (and my casio gshock) so this watch felt very light on my wrist -- which I see as a bad thing. As another reviewer mentioned, the second hand doesnt perfectly line up with the markings which is annoying -- I find myself looking a the dial a bit because I like it so much. The case, to me, is really 36mm and not 40mm as advertized. So the watch is quite a bit smaller than I expected: which is a bad thing. [It is 40mm measured horizontally included the crown] The crown is not a screw-down type. The band is nylon top with a leather[ish] bottom. Not a fabulous band, but certainly not bad. One thing none of the pictures show [as of yet] is that the band features riveted holes that help give off that military look. All in all, this is a great beater watch. With a change of bands, it could even dress up more; but too casual to ever be dressy. great watch ...looks and functions well...except for the silly grommets on the band...which are not depicted in the photo...even my sister said ...whats with those holes on the band...wondered about a getting new band...for a watch I just bought!...ended up prying the suckers off...more easy than you think...start with the inside of the band and pry the ring off then push the grommet out the other side...did it using my fingernails...which needed to be trimmed afterwards... now it looks even better...citizen find a new band!... Canvas band problem I bought a Titanium model that uses the same band. The canvas is resistant, but the tissue sewn in the back of the canvas (leather?) cracked after 1 year due to sweat. It also smells not good when wet. The other awful thing was the knob. It got loose and its axel warped just being in my wrist. I love this watch! I just cant say enough good things about this watch. I love it, it satisfies the geek in me, while not looking out of place when camping. There are only two points that detract from this watch, but I love it so much it doesnt drag the overall rating down. 1. The band isnt everything it could be, and in fact is a bit small around my wrist. However I dont buy a watch for its band, they are easily and cheaply replaced. 2. Just more of a warning. In the pictures, it looks like the case extends above the crystal (dial face) which I have had on watches before. That is not so with this watch, the crystal actually extends beyond the case ever so slightly. Not enough to detract from my opinion of the watch, but I wanted to warn other buyers in case this is critical in your circumstances. Citizen Eco-Drive This is truly a fantastic watch. I love it that its solar powered and has such a long warranty. It feels and looks very solid. The numbers are clear and just the right size. The watch glows through the night. The band is less wonderful. However, I replaced the band with a black nylon band (about $5.00) which looks terrific. A great watch at a great price. First Amazon Disappointment My last watch from Amazon was the quartz Invicta dive watch, now on my wrist. Its a great watch for the price...Amazon gave me a good deal and timely delivery. But most jewelers these days are jaded, leaving battery replacement to their sales clerks, who give a scripted statement about their inability to get a good seal, damaging the crystal, etc. Living on the ocean, I need a very water resistant watch. After seeing this one and reading the revues, I noticed the specials link and clicked it. The watch was offered for fifty-one bucks, if I applied for the Chase/Amazon Visa card. That was thirty bucks down, so I filled out the Chase/Amazon Visa application, which asked questions not included in the stack of preapproved credit card applications stuffed into one of my drawers...mothers maiden name, employers phone number, etc. Well, after filling out all of the blanks, I was informed that my purchase had not been processed. So I telephoned the 888 number for Chase/Amazon Visa, and was told that they had not received my application. Well, I ordered the watch the next evening, on my old account, but was told that Amazon would not ship to my post office box, as it has in the past. So I gave them my street address and ordered this watch. Now I am left to wonder if the Chase Visa special was an identity theft popup scam, or if Amazon has suffered some change in management which treats its customers like victims, as so many businesses do these days. This is the only time that Amazon has failed to make good on a special offer. Ive been entirely happy with Amazon in the past. Right now, I am not happy. I hope that the watch arrives and proves worthy of the hassle and the worry. I also hope that this purchase is not the beginning of bad news to come. Perfect Weekend Watch I bought this watch to wear on the weekends so I dont beat up my good watches. I knew the band would be small and weak but I had an older expansion type band from another watch. When the watch arrived I cut off the canvas band, put on the metal band set the time and date and put it out in the sun for the rest of the afternoon. I have not touched it since!! I select and wind what good watch I want to wear during the week and when Saturday morning comes I grab this one, put it on and go! The luminous hands and markers are very bright at night! I am a large guy and a larger dial would have been nice. However if you can get an eco-drive that never needs a battery for this price that is alway set and ready to go after sitting in the dark for a week then you have the perfect weekend watch. This is the only Citizen watch I have ever owned so I cannot attest to durability. Accuracy has been dead on! I guess since all the WR-100/200s have the same movement pick the one that suits you and you are all set. I would buy this watch again and will buy another if I ever need to do so. Good Job by Amazon on delivery, good job by Citizen to make a reliable product that is technologically advanced and fits the needs of most guys. Excellent Watch! Ive had this for several months now and couldnt be more happier with it. This is my office casual, simple and yet technologically cool watch. Best of all, no batteries to change due to a unique battery charging technology! The fit and finish is superb as are the detailing of the numbers, watch hands, case and crystal. The overall fit and finish is much better than a timex. Changing time and day and date has a nice solid feel to it. Timex has great and durable electronics but where they get you is their batteries only last two years and it is a complete pain to change, so much so that your are almost forced to buy a new one. This is the same playbook that car manufacturers used in the 1960s and 70s. PLANNED OBSELESENCE. No more! Excellent watch So far I love this dress/casual/everyday watch. I wasnt crazy about the band (the only reason I didnt give it 5 stars), so got a black leather band with white stitching; looks great. Love my Citizen Eco-Drive #BM8180-03E I love this watch. I bought it based on internet research only, never saw one in person before. It looks a lot better live than in the pictures. Its got a great weight and feel to it, even if the crown is a tad bit protruding, although the fine polish makes it seem less so than the pictures. Adjusting the time, day & date is very straight forward. The band is darker than all the pictures I saw, for which Im glad, and its comfortable and tough looking. So far no mechanical defaults whatsoever. My only real complaint about this sharp, well-made watch is that the seconds hand does not align with the minute markers on the face. Even so, Im very satisfied with this watch. Excellent Watch for Classic Casual This has absolutely everything I was looking for in a casual watch. It has a timeless - classic look. You can wear it in the pool/shower. It has the day/date function. Its not a "fat" watch (width or depth). Of course, its also an Eco-Drive (my third). No idea why I find this power source so cool - but I definitely do! Ive read quite a bit about the wrist band in reviews. Frankly, I tried to live with it, but even though its made of quality stuff, I couldnt live with the over-sized metal eyelets - looks WAY too 70s for me. I replaced with a black leather/nylon field wristband (Speidel) from Walmart that looks & feels outstanding. Holy cow, did I really only pay $81 for this beauty? Thats a Timex/Casio plastic price for a really nice casual watch. Great Watch-Silly strap Love the watch, the strap is identical to the other Citizen chronograph canvas strap model. For the me the strap is too short on both models for my wrist. The strap looks "silly" with the metal eyelets in the strap. That being said the watch is masculine and functional. An excellent value for an eco-drive model. The case is a polished stainless steel which is the opposite of what a military outdoor watch should be. The case would be better served with a non-reflective matte finish. I believe this was a compromise by citizen to make it appeal to those looking for a fashion dress watch. Bottom line great watch, great value, a steal at this price given the eco-drive and quality of a citizen watch. Fine, but not as advertised My Citizen Eco-Drive canvas strap watch BM8180-03E arrived today. The watch is fine. But it came with a gray strap, not the olive green strap advertised. I wanted the green strap. Also, the strap has at least two too many grommeted buckle holes. It does not have a screw-down crown. Excellent Watch!! I just got this watch in the mail today from Amazon. It is awesome! I am just under 6ft tall and have small to medium bone structure, I like the size and fit on my wrist. It looks wonderful! I love the black face with the white numerals and hands. Very easy to read the time and looks great! I just barely had it on when I went in the laundry room and closed the door, the hands and numerals really glowed in the dark. The watch case feels very solid and of high quality. I really like the band. It is an olive or army green and has round silver satin grommets over the holes. It has one fixed loop and one sliding loop to hold the band. Because of the watch case design, it would be very easy to swap out another band. For the price of $81 with no tax and free shipping, I feel this is a great buy! You never have to worry about batteries! Better for the environment and your pocketbook! I highly recommend this watch to every one! buen precio me parece que es un buen relot y esta en exelente precio se los recomiendo saludos A great watch for its price Bought it for hubby as an alternative for daily use (his previous one is a bit too formal). Its not dressy yet still nice for everyday occasions. It has the Citizen Eco-Drive technology therefore we wont need to worry about changing battery for a very long time. The one feature hubby loves is the watch illuminates in the dark. However, there are two things that bothers me: the watch is a bit too thick for a person with relatively small wrist, and the strap began to smell after just one month of use. Overall, its a great watch for its price. watch The watch was exactly as it was described. There have been no issues with it. I JUST MIGHT HAVE FOUND THE PERFECT WATCH I have had many watches over the years, and this just might be THE watch that Ive been searching for! After wearing dive watches for the last decade, its slim lines and ability to run "indefinitely" without battery replacement are welcome changes. It does everything a watch is supposed to do, without the limitations found in most of its competitors. The day/date feature is a welcome bonus as well. I love my Luminox for its accuracy and illumination, but sending back to the service center every couple of years for a battery replacement was getting old. Im around, and in, water constantly during my free time, so my watch must be waterproof. The 100 meter rating found in this watch meets my needs; the 200-300 meter ratings of my dive watches, while reassuring, werent really necessary. Id considered a automatic to do away with the need for battery replacement, but the less than stellar accuracy inherent in this movement caused me to continue searching. I tried some of the early solars, and found the system to be finicky, running out of juice on a regular basis, although I spend most of my day out of doors. In researching kinetics, Id found that they have their own little idiosyncrasies as well. Then I stumbled upon what just might be the perfect watch for my particular needs; a Citizens Eco-Drive! Its proven to be all that it claims to be, accurate, reliable, and with a "charging system" that doesnt require any special attention if worn on a regular basis. My search for the "perfect watch" just might be over! Fantastic Watch I love this watch. It arrived quickly after ordering and Ive been very happy with it. I have another Citizen for more formal wear (Citizen Calibre) but needed a casual watch since the Timex I had for the last five years broke. Since Ive been so happy with the Citizen Calibre that I wanted another Citizen; the Eco-Drive Mens Canvas Strap watch was a perfect choice. Its reliable and the face/controls are very clear. I highly recommed this watch if you are looking for a casual wear watch. NICE WATCH, HORRIBLY UGLY STRAP WATCH IS NICE, WELL BUILT, WELL DESIGNED, HANDOSME FOR A FIELD WATCH. SEEMS TO KEEP TIME WELL AND THE ECO DRIVE FEATURE IS OUTSTANDING. LOOKS LIKE IT WILL HOLD UP UNDER HEAVY USE. THE STRAP HAS TO BE THE UGLIEST AND MOST UNCOMFORTABLE WATCH STRAP IVE EVER OWNED. OTHER REVIEWS MENTION THIS BUT I REALLY HAVE TO CONCUR...WHAT WERE THEY THINKING? IT IS AS UNCOMFORTABLE AS IT IS UGLY! I ORDERED ANOTHER STRAP ON EBAY. CITIZEN SHOULD OFFER A REPLACEMENT STRAP ALLOWANCE FOR ALL OWNERS. IF I HAD SEEN THIS WATCH IN STORE INSTEAD OF BUYING ONLINE I MAY HAVE PASSED ON IT DUE TO THE STRAP, INSTEAD I SHELLED OUT ANOTHER $20 TO BUY A BETTER ONE. BOTTOM LINE: GREAT WATCH, BAD STRAP! As expected. A nice watch for the money. Its definitely not worth the $135 USD that Citizen lists it for on their site. Overall its rugged and accurate. Im not a second counter so I dont know exactly how accurate it is, but it gets me around on time. The band took a little getting used to. Im not crazy about the metal eyelets on the band, but theyll do as I cant find a better canvas band out there. (Im currently looking for a good hemp band in a khaki color.) I like the black face and large numbers. The date is accurate and easy to read. Not perfect, but for only paying half price, its a lot better than a Fossil or Timex. Mean Green Time Machine! I find that watches are some of the most personal things that we carry around with us. We look at them constantly, rely upon them to be accurate, easy to read, and to say something about who we are. That said, this watch fits all of the above criteria (and more) for me. The size is perfect for me. I have relatively thin wrists, so I didnt want a Russian commando diver watch that would look like Im wearing an alarm clock on my wrist. It does have some weight, though, but I kind of like that. It feels like theres substance there; that it will last a while. The face is really easy to read at a glance; the numbers are not overly large, just a nice bold typeface on a black background. A real bonus is that the hands and numbers will glow all night with one good strong shot of light before turning the lights out. Another bonus is the day AND date display. The band is a nice olive green color and the adjustment holes are rimmed with metal grommets. Some have complained about the glued parts on the band coming apart. I have been through a lot of watchbands and I have never seen a band that was totally stitched without the use of glue, so I really dont see that as a deal-breaker with this watch. Another reviewer complained that the second hand doesnt register with the tic marks on the face. Look, if youre gonna time sports events or something, maybe you ought to get a decent stopwatch! The green that Im most enthusiastic about is the Eco-Drive mechanism. True, there IS a battery in this puppy, but youll never have to replace it. Its a small step towards reducing our ecological footprint, but every step counts. Cool watch but smaller than described This watch looks well made, and the dial is easy to read. The day date feature is a nice touch compared to just the date, and it is dual language selectable. Another outstanding feature is the 100m water resistance (WR). This is a good indicator of high quality. The 30m and 50m ratings seems much more common, even on watches described as being in the military category. Its not as though it needs to match a dive watch rating, but a military person should be able to snorkel or swim across a stream or river without compromising the watch -- 30m just does not cut it (50m is debatable), but fortunately Citizen did not cut any corners here. I feel that the website description is misleading. I measured the watch case diameter as 36mm. Then I searched for the watch on other websites, and one of them indicated it was 37mm (which I disagree with). The 40mm mentioned in the description evidently included the setting crown and that should have been clearly stated. Because I prefer a larger size, I only owned this watch for 2 days before I returned it. Overall if you do not mind a medium size, this watch is a great value and should last for many years, which is why I still give it 5 stars. I would not hesitate to buy one again if Citizen comes out with a 40mm model for my 7.25" wrist. Good watch, but... I do like this watch, especially the band, but know that you cannot reset the date feature by winding backwards - a problem in daylight savings areas. You have to go through the laborious process of winding through 30 days to reset it. The Looks and the Works. The watch is great. Ive been buying Eco-Drives for years. The face is large and illuminates well in the dark. The strap is a little stiff at first but breaks in quick. The watch works well with casual attire but you can also easily change the straps for a dressier look. Eco drive watch The watch was a great price and arrived as I expected. I will continue to shop Amazon as I have for years! Great Watch Being in the Army, my views on work watches have tended to be "cheaper is better." I continually run into the problem of batteries dieing while Im deployed and having to buy another one. For those that have been to Iraq, the selectiion in the PX is less than ideal. During my last deployment, my Timex watch died so I decided to go a little more expensive and found the Citizen Eco-Drive watch. It has been great and has remained accurate over the months that Ive had it. I was concerned that it wouldnt get enough light to keep it charged being that I wear long-sleeves, but again, havent had any problems. The only nuisance that Ive found with the watch is the band itself. Its a good canvas band that is leather lined and has aluminum rivets to reinforce the adjusting holes. It seems to make the distance between the holes a little excessive to me. I dont have Popey arms, but the optimum adjustment for most comfort for me falls between two of the holes. The tighter of the two is a little too tight and the looser is a little too loose. I guess Ill have to bulk up a little or get a new band. For the price of $81.00, its a good all around investment in a work watch. I havent put it to the stress and abuse test to see how robust it is yet, but the crystal appears strong and it is sufficiently water proof. Citizen Eco-Drive Watch My husband really likes this watch, but the band is kind of small. He is a normal sized man and he has to wear the strap in the last hole. So if you have large wrists this wont fit you. Other than that he loves it. Seconds hand does not index and band is poorly made. Just got mine two days ago and I am very disappointed that the seconds hand does not index with the minute markings. It makes the watch appear cheap and substandard. The movement of the seconds hand is not crisp and defined and may be the result of a poorly made mechanism. The watch band is not to my taste and I would replace it if I were to keep wearing the watch but at this time I am considering returning it to Amazon since the poor indexing bothers me quite a bit. I dont sit there and observe the seconds hand but the fact that I know that it does not index correctly makes me feel that I am wearing a very poorly made watch. I am not recommending this product to people that are critical of quality and refinement in manufacturing. A great military style watch! I like this watch because it is simple, rugged, easy to read and doesnt need a battery replacement. Some years ago I was getting a new battery for another watch. The jeweler who replaced the battery said, "Of course, you know that when I open the case, the watch wont be waterproof any more." Well, no I didnt know that but now I do. If you get a watch that has to have battery replacements, the gaskets are deformed when the case back is removed. I asked another jeweler about the most reliable watch brand. He said, "Citizen, based on the number of watches we get back for repairs." I have a Citizen dress watch and it has been accurate and trouble-free for the last five years. It just doesnt make sense to replace batteries when you can eliminate this source of annoyance and loss of case integrity. Love this Watch I love this watch! I have had the solar watches for years now and the fact that you never need a battery is all the more reason to get one. The are styles are great although this one is a little big for a woman and you will probably want another band. Thats why the 4 star rating. It works right out of the box. Perfect! I got at least ten years out of my other two. I guess the the solar cells give out. I got two more. This one and another Citizen so Im set for at least another ten! I highly recommend the Citizen Eco Drives. A Very Nice Watch Pros: Attractive design. Near perfect time-keeping. Eco-Drive is cool. Cons: The band sucks. Its ugly green canvas and the holes are large and metal. The second hand on my watch is slightly misaligned with the marks if you are really picky. Overall I would recommend buying it. Just put a different band on it. Great Watch I currently own 2 eco-drive watches and I love them both ! This watch perfect when you just looking for a watch to wear to school, the gym, or just around the house. Great job by citizen as usual Citizen Eco Drive watch Have had the watch for over a month now. It does what a watch is supposed to do: shows time precisely. It is comfortable to wear, and I do not share complaints about the strap posted by others. Good everyday watch. Excellent watch for the price This watch is not too big on the wrist, has a well designed face and it seems to keep time fairly accurately. Some reviewers have criticized the canvas strap but I think it looks good. However, the large size of the holes in the strap mean there is not much room for adjusting it for a comfortable fit, particularly on a hot day when your wrist expands. It appears the glass can scratch fairly easily. If the Eco-drive system does work as advertised then the watch is exceptional value for the money. What better energy source than light? One of my favorite watches Love this watch and I own several others costing hundreds more. One of my top three favorite watches. EASY to read. It glows purdy in the dark...the numbers themselves glow. Even the tip of the second hand glows. Its thin, its light, and Ive had a couple of people ask me about it. Its to-the-point and stylish. I love that it is Eco Drive. Easy to set (has hacking feature). I like the band construction, I dont mind the green. Im pleased that it shows the day and the date (many times Ill look at my other watches--most watches in general--and only the number of the date shows, but I come and go I often forget what day of the week it is...this shows both). If this one breaks I WILL purchase a replacement. Fantastic This is a fantastic watch! No batteries, ever again! and it wears well, light and easy to read! Fantabulous! The night glow of the hands at night works well also. I have small wrists, so size of the face suits me well (this could be considered a "midsize" watch). The face is 40mm across (that includes the knob on the right). It has maintained a very accurate time so far. And, best of all, no need to change batteries. Hummayumma! Fast service, ease of use, solar powered, and a beauty of an olive green nylon band to go with it: what could be better than that? Citizen Eco-drive Watch Set the time and date - put it on your wrist and forget it. Im getting a little older and my eyes a little worse. Without my glasses I cant read most watches. This one I can. The numbers and hands stand out. The strap did take a little getting used to, but I knew what I was getting when I ordered it. I really like the watch and the fact it is an eco-drive. I have several others and they are great. I also like the fact this has a "screw-in" type back good to 100M water resistance Great watch - Band causes a stink I would give this watch a 5 star if it were not for the band. While bands are replaceable this is a review of the item as it is sold. I wash my hands probably a hundred times a day and try as I might the band gets wet. After a full days work the leather and canvas traps the water and sweat and begins to smell. It is like a cast on your arm for 6 weeks smell. Leather (Inside) Canvas outer trap the water and sweat and no matter how you dry it, it still smells. Beyond that, This watch is awesome! I love the no-battery replacement. I love the crystal and it has only 1 minor scratch after a full year of ownership. I had bought 3 timex/casio watches in 3 months that were destroyed at work due to scratches cracks and bands breaking. Overall if you are outdoors type playing in the river or swamp then this watch band should be replaced with an all rubber one. It is very water resistant and a pleasure to own. nice I love this watch!! Simple but well put together. I plan on giving one as a gift. Great watch By far the best watch of owned. The only comment I would have to make is Citizen could of made the band a little thicker. The band looks a little thin when on a larger wrist. Otherwise, Im extremely happy with movement, quality, and the eco drive feature. A+ Great Deal for The Money This watch is a steal. For its low price, you get a watch that never needs winding nor a replacement battery as long as you keep it exposed to light. The fabric band is decent quality but since I have a large wrist I use the first hole. The watch is accurate and nice looking. I like the Eco-Drive better that Seikos implementation. Fully charged it will keep running for 6 months in total darkness. I keep mine near a window when not wearing it. Excellent watch for a very good price by: mozart66 On: 2007-04-26 I recently bought this watch after my trusted Swiss Military watch died. I was a bit hesitant for I had not owned a Japaneese watch before and had some reservations about the strap. I have been pleasantly suprised. The watch is really nice --- the strap is quite sturdy and has rivets (not visible in the picture on the most websites) which makes it strong and improves appearance. The watch is just the right weight. I love the dial but wish the minute, hour hands were slightly thinner. However, the is sufficiently "dressy" even for semi-formal occasions. I am hoping the Eco-drive feature works as promised (i.e. I dont have to change the battery ever!). Overall, a great buy and I would recommend it highly. A Must for your Watch Wardrobe by: btrippe4 On: 2007-03-16 This is the best buy in timepieces for the money. It has an easy to read face; it is DAY DATE as opposed to just day of the month; it is rugged; it needs no battery; it is deadly accurate. I have two of them! Citizen eco-drive wrist watch by: Anonymous On: 2007-01-26 Outstanding value and service. Watch exceeded my expectations. Delivery time was much faster than expected. I look forward to my next purchase from Amazon. I love this watch. by: Anonymous On: 2007-01-05 I just needed a decent watch that kept good time, and one that didnt require arm movement or battery changes. This watch fits the bill. It is an excellent value, and several friends have said they intended to order one. If I were ordering again, Id get the one without day/date, but thats just personal preference. I find that I never actually use that feature, it busies up the face a little, and its one last thing to adjust at the end of the month. great watch, but Fabric Strap is a disgrace by: hhammerling2 On: 2006-09-04 Watch is highly accurate (it appears to be 3 secs fast per week) nice looking (if you like "military"), solid feel. Watch is unexpectedly heavy for "stainless steel". Is part of the body brass ? I would have preferred "brushed stainless steel" anyway. The surface looks shiny as if "nickel plated". Not the "outdoor" finish, it appears to have in the photograph. The BIG disappointment however was the fabric strap: After one week (only) of inserting the strap into the sleeve guide, the little sleeve was blocked. Reason, the inside of the sleeve is NOT sewn, but GLUED (with contact glue ?). I now have a big mess, where the strap-end (the part which is inserted into the sleeve) is all sticky/ guey with this glue. I tried re-glueing with a "will be solid after curing" wood glue. Not a good idea, looks awful. Really disappointed in CITIZEN, at this price ($89.-) they should be able to do better. great watch, but Fabric Strap is a disgrace by: hhammerling2 On: 2006-09-03 Watch is highly accurate (it appears to be 3 secs fast per week) nice looking (if you like "military"), solid feel. Great Time Piece I bought this watch over a year ago, and it has proven to be my best watch ever (and Ive had a lot of them). It keeps perfect time, and it is very easy to read with the big numbers. I love the Day/date feature, and its ease in changing the date at the end of a short month. Also, at night the hands stay illuminated for about two hours after it gets dark which makes telling time at night incredibly easy, especially when Im camping. All in all, just a great watch. Review of Citizen Eco Drive Excellent watch, high tecnology, converting light to electrical energy. Five year warranty. Class and elegance. A Very Impressive Watch! A Good Value for Your Money! For the money, you cant go wrong with this model. In terms of comfort, convenience, and accuracy, I havent seen anything in the market that even comes close. Comfort: Very comfortable; it would appear to me that Citizen may have reduced the size of the setting crown somewhat, comparing my particular model to the the one shown in the picture above, making it less obtrusive; no problems for me! Convenience: In my opinion, the best in the industry, as most other watches will either require routine maintenance or at least a change in battery more often than not (even the so-called "kinetic drive" systems, made by a different manufacturer, require this, as stated in their own instruction manual!) As another reviewer has stated, its quite a novelty to purchase a watch that will last for several decades without any need to open the case! In terms of readability, the high contrast hands and dial are a plus for me. Accuracy: Here is an unexpected benefit - the second-hand lines up well with the indices, and there is no evidence of the minute or hour hands being out of register whatsoever. In addition, the day and date indicators line up perfectly through the window opening! Finally, my particular model gains only about one second per 3-week interval. About that "Olive Canvas Strap": although very comfortable, I must agree, while being of a subjective nature, may give some pause with regard to being "stylish". It would seem that replacing this strap would be easy enough if so desired. Then again, this could be the next fashion statement! Do you all work for Citizen or what? So I went and bought this watch based on the 5-star reviews I read about. Needless to say the watch looks alot better on the web than on my wrist, but heres my take after wearing it for about a week: 1. The mineral crystal appears to be pretty thin. I havent scratched the glass yet (thats what it sounds like) but I suspect itll scratch pretty easily. 2. The band is ok if you like green....I prefer black. Not sure why Citizen didnt offer a black colored strap. I ended up switching to a black leather band but I wish I didnt have to spend $$ on another strap! 3. The crown does stick out just a wee bit too far. One customer wrote that he noticed a bruised back hand. I agree, Citizen should have either reduced the size of the crown or make the crown protector bigger. 4. And lastly, my second hand is a few hairs off...not a real big deal but I have a Luminox and a Seiko in the same price range and the second hands are dead on for those. The watch does keep great time (so far) and its still a nice knock around watch for daily use. Still, I only give it 3 stars!! Very nice watch I ordered this watch from Amazon and it arrived before the estimated delivery date. I love the watch, and it looks much better in person than in pictures on the web. Quality is very good and the hands line up perfectly. The luminova is evenly applied and lasts longer, actually all the way through the night, which I didnt think would be the case. The only feature I dont like is the canvas band, which I found uncomfortable. Im sure its fine for others, but still a black leather band for less than (...)(any jewelry store or online store) compliments the watch very well, and it no longer looks like a weekend watch. One small point about the Eco-drive that some other reviews Ive read overlooked: Citizen Eco-drive models DO have a battery. The solar cell stores energy in a rechargeable mangenese-titanium battery. The battery should last a very long time according to Citizen engineers who project that even after 20 years the battery should retain 80% of recharge capacity (on their website), but only time will tell... no pun intended. Speaking of time, the watch is pretty accurate. Ive had the watch for one month and during that time it has lost less than one second when compared to the US national time (www.nist.gov). In sum: this is a very well constructed watch that I feel is worth the money. Very nice watch I ordered this watch from Amazon and it arrived before the estimated delivery date. The problem with my other watches: quazt movements have to replace the battery after a while; automatic movement stops working if I dont wear it for a few days. So I purchased this watch. The movement is running with natural or artificial light, so I can be worry free from the watch stops working because battery or no movement. I think it would be nice if the watchs body can be made little thinner. But in general I am very please with the watchs look. I didnt see the problem that the other reviewer said about the three winds didnt line up at 12. Mine works perfectly. Less than $70 for this great one. What a deal! A great knockaround watch with good citizen quality I received the watch promptly in the mail beautifully packaged and it has just the features and the look I want. This is the watch Ill be wearing in the house. I have other watches for dress and a compass watch for car travel. My second citizen watch so I expect the usual reliability. and just think: Because its an eco-drive and has no battery Ill never have to open it and lose its water-tight integrity. Was surprised to hear another customer complaining about the quality. Citizen watches, as I perceive them, are meticulously detailed and reliable, affordably priced and beautifully styled. Another great value from Amazon. A great knockaround watch with good citizen quality I received the watch promptly in the mail beautifully packaged and it has just the features and the look I want. Manufacturing glitches seem to be common with this brand, which is unfortunate because their solar technology is basically a good idea, it just needs a better execution. Theres a lot of good things to say about this watch, some are: 1. the red second hand which makes the watch more distinct. 2. the band is very comfortable. Has metal slots and buckle to adjust it to your wrist size. 3. the numbers on the dial are fairly large which makes it easier to read. 4. the hands and numbers all illuminate in the dark 5. shows the date and day (its in spanish around 3am-5am) 6. the crystal is made of a type of mineral which is scratch resistant. (still no scratches on mine!!) Besides all that, this watch has a very nice casual look and is more of an everyday kind of watch. It will never need a battery since its powered by both natural and artificial light. It fascinates me to realize that a watch will last longer than my life span. Overall this watch is great. only negative aspect is that I noticed that the crown bruised the back of my hand a little, but I never realized it till recently.... just thought I should mention that. very nice watch I just got this item a few weeks ago, but I already think that its one of the best watches out there. Another fine Citizen Eco-Drive by: mattmusic On: 2005-06-28 This watch is for your days off. The mineral crystal and the water resistant features ensure this. The band is crafted of a military style nylon khaki with riveted type holes for adjusting the band to accommodate your wrist. Inexpensive but finely crafted. Instead of buying the Timex look hard at this watch because it has a better movement and it doesnt require a battery! Large numbers enhance the dial with luminous hands. The day and date are also displayed in English and Spanish. A five year warranty on the movement (only) gives your peace of mind. A must have for those leisure days. |
