![]() Timex Men's 30-Lap Ironman Resin Strap Watch #T5E901 By: Timex Average Rating: 4.0 Total Reviews: 18 More Information Much better than the current Triathlon Sleek I bought this to replace the current orange triathlon "sleek". That watch had nice functionality but its buttons were too stiff (really) and it drove me absolutely nuts. This watch may not be quite as pretty as the sleeks but otherwise Im very pleased with it. For those familiar with the sleek this one differs in the following ways: 1) Buttons actually work (wow!) 2) 30 instead of 50 laps (can still store them) 3) No interval timer. I never used this anyway. Since the count-down timer can be set to repeat every time it fires (or not; this is an option) I never understood the point of the interval timer. It seems Timex didnt anyway, so its gone. I continue to use the timer function on a daily basis for anything from workouts to reminding me to turn something off in, say, 20 minutes. 4) The three alarms have a slightly different tone. There is still the 5 minutes "snooze" if you dont turn the alarm off. After 5 min it will fire again one more time. 5) Occasion function is on this watch but was not on the others. You can choose from about a dozen occasions (bill, gift, etc.) and assign one to a single day. It will then fire that day at 8:00. 6) When you stop and reset the timer the reset is instantaneous. There is still a "hold to reset" on the chrono, but it never made sense on the timer and was a slight annoyance. In this case they have removed it, awesome. Can reset it instantly. 7) Indiglo is a blue instead of green tone. This works perfectly in dark. There is only a very thin spectrum of early evening in which perhaps you cannot see the watch well enough without indiglo but with it turned on its not bright enough. I know others have complained about this, but its never been a problem for me and as you can tell by this, my third review of timex ironman watches, I am pedantic about them. Other notes, this watch still has the "time 2" for another time zone (Ive never used it). You can still change the chrono format so that laps are on the top vs bottom, for example, and there are still two lines (so that you can see total time plus current laptime at the same time). The battery can be replaced (I presume; I did it on an earlier triathlon watch successfully) but the watch strap is not replaceable; if it breaks it will deem the watch worthless. They are pretty strong straps, though, and this one is stronger (plus stays put better) than the black triathlon sleek from around four years ago (Which can still be bought in some places). This watch is not quite as pretty as the sleek but otherwise has a perfect complement of functionality. Ive not taken it underwater yet except for in the shower. My watch never comes off my wrist. Very nice durable watch I have owned two of the Ironman watches and i must say that both are very good. The rubber strap is very comfortable and is rather light weight. The watch has all the needed modes (ie: stopwatch, timer, alarm) and each works easily with little complication. The watch is very easy to read with the time, date and day along with any modes running in the back round. I have also taken this watch scuba diving at 80 feet with no problem, and is fully waterproof. The night light works nicely, but late at night due to the green glow your eyes may take a second to adjust enough to read it. The only real problem i have found owning this watch is the "mode" button on the bottom left is in a spot that if the watch is at your wrist and you move your wrist up it may push this button. So when you look at the time you are in the timer or stopwatch mode instead. Neither of these two downsides are nearly large enough to not own this watch though. Timex T5E901 This is an excellent watch with intuitive buttons and functions. It is the third like it Ive owned; they tend to conk out after 3-4 years for me with a lot of use in salt water. The reason for 3 stars is that the watch I received is not the one in the image: the face is larger and there is no FLIX function. Turns out I like the larger face and the FLIX function is not useful to me, but one should be aware. My Review of Timex Watch The watch is pretty good.. Looks good in real.. The indiglo is not the best feature.. but its adjustable.. all in all a good deal for $35.. band worthless the watch is pretty good overall have had it for just two years but the band is trash what good is a water resistant watch when if the band gets wet the velcro stop holding i dont dive 100s of meters a day but i once in awhile forget to take it off before getting in the shower and i mean i almost always take it off when i shower and i have never put it completely under water but trust me dont get that band wet it will not work if you do i forgot to take it off while washing dishes and it hasnt been the same sences now the band is no good the velcro does not hold and the watch constantly falls off my wrist 100 METERS MY YOU KNOW WHAT !!!!! DO NOT GET IT WET Great Watch Not Great Band Watch works very well. Have had it for a few years. Band keeps breaking after 1 to 3 months which was getting expensive - not to mention annoying. However when I complained to Timex they suggested a metal link band as a replacement to the resin band, which solved the problem. It looks great too. Stopped working aftter one water dunk I had a Timex Ironman for 10 years that always worked great, including with frequent use in a pool. The first time I took this into a pool, it stopped working after about 5 min and I could see water inside. I sent it to Timex for a warranty claim. Will see what happens... Relatively cheap and does the job Comfortable fit, reasonably compact look and user friendly. 4 stars since it appears a tad dated and the extra money for the useless flix feature is not warranted. great value Great watch. Not too big and extremely comfortable. From day one I could barely tell that I was wearing it because it is so light. The shaped wristband helps too. Ive worn this everyday for about two years now. The buttons work well and numbers are large and clear. However, the face of my watch became somewhat cloudy after a camping trip. Im not sure if it is due to bugspray with high DEET concentration, or if the watch just got too close to the hot fire. Easy to use and read I love this watch. My wife bought it for me to use on my first Marathon. I found it very easy to use and easy to read on the go. I used to use the older Ironman watch with two buttons on the front and occasionally pushed the wrong one on the run. This watch eliminates that possibility. It is harder to screw up during the race or the run. Keep the instructions handy until you learn how to use it. Not as big a face as I thought. I bought this watch for a guy friend who is 64" and almost 300 lbs. So hes big. I was looking for a big watch. The face of this watch is not as big as Id hoped. Instead Ill be giving it to a smaller guy friend. As for how it works, I dont know yet. It will be a Xmas gift. Good watch, good price I have worn Ironman watches for many many years and the hold up very well and I have always been happy with their operation. Classic Triathalon Always the best of the pack for its value. I get five years out of each one and Ive been buying for 23 years. Watches always outlast the bands Has more features than previous models, such as 3 time zones. I love the watch for working outdoors and for travel. Also keeps me up to date on day of week and date. Great for timing my food on the grill. This is my 4th in a series of these and the battery always outlasts the resin band - its only weekpoint- (lasts about 2 years if worn daily). I also bought one of these Timex ironman watches with a fabric band at Walmart ($30), and they suggested that they could replace my watchband with one designed for this watch, from Timex. I did, for $11.00. The band replacement took them 30 minutes though - even with all the right tools. Not a job to do yourself. I now have the repaired watch, the new one with more features from Amazon and a new one with not all the new features but with a fabric band. I change them daily - and I have several other "good" watches which do not see much use, except for weddings ! Stay in the $30 -34 range at Amazon and you have a real bargan. nice The watch works for me. Being a runner I needed simple and readable. Some of us dont run with their glasses on. The only problem I have is with the watch band. Some of us runners have small wrists and the band is too large. I use the last hole in the band and have punched a hold even father back. Timex should offer two sizes. Great watch this is a great watch w/ so many things packed into it 3 alarms, Birthday reminder etc, a way to have two time zone at once just all round good watch keeps great time the only con I have w/ it is the band but I c an get one I like at wal mart timex ironman watch I like the watch for its ease of use. I owned a previous model so I was very familiar with its operation. The only drawback is the black triathlon logo on the face. It interferes with reading the numbers on the face of watch Lightweight, Options, and Ease of Use Make this a Great Watch I have purchased many Timex watches over the years and I am entirely satisfied with this watch. I always buy the sports watch, as I swim and do triathlons. Things I like about the watch: *Setting the watch is easy and the instructions are clear (although the printed instructions are very small!) * The watch is not too big. So many watches have too many features and they are large, bulky, and heavy. This watch is sleek, has a low profile, and has a size that is ideal for average needs. * The numbers are big enough to see easily at a glance. * There are enough useful options, and this watch is not overloaded with too many options. Too many options are confusing to me. I like the simplicity of this watch and the ease of use of the options it has. * I like the plastic watch band. I have tried the velcro strap bands and they wear out after a year or so of use. The plastic band will eventually break, but is fairly easy to replace. * I like the price. At less than 35 dollars I have everything I need in a watch. * I like and use frequently the Indiglo feature. I have even used Indiglo to find my way to the bathroom at night from bed! The light on the dial is bright enough to make your way through the dark for a short trip! Things I dont like: There is not much I dont like about this Timex watch. I suppose my biggest complaint about this watch and any Timex watch is the difficulty in changing the battery. The battery will eventually need replacement, and of course one has to take off the back of the watch to replace the battery. This is tricky and takes a steady hand. I wish Timex would make the battery more accessible so changing the battery would be as easy as sliding one in or out of a hinged door (like on a hearing aid). Obviously, there is much more to like about this watch than not like. I do recommend it for a good sport watch. It will withstand chlorine pools, lake water, rainfall, high and low temperatures, but be careful not to scratch the dial window! I scratched the main window crystal and ruined my last watch. Avoid spraying any kind of bug repellant on the window as well, as this can mar (dull) the surface. For me, this watch meets all my needs and I give it a 5-star rating. My needs are faily simple. There are certainly other watches that offer more features, but to me, the added features add complexity and are not worth the added bother. The price is good. The watch is good quality. This is a good buy. Jim "Konedog" Koenig Looks great, works great! This is a very attrative watch that isnt too small or too bulky. My husband really likes the flix feature and the dual times that can be set. Good multifunction lap swimming watch I bought this watch 15 months ago and Ive worn it daily and used it for lap swimming weekly. It has worked flawlessly. I frequently use the countdown timer, the 3 alarms, and the chrono (laps) feature. The features are relatively easy to use although sometimes I cant remember which button does what. Another reviewer said the watch buttons shouldnt be pressed underwater, but I do that while lap swimming and the watch has given me no trouble. A few days ago, the rubber retainer clip that notched into the wristband broke off. Yesterday, the wristband broke off at the point where it was buckled. Since the wristband is an integral part of the watch, this renders the watch unwearable. I guess 15 months of daily use out of a watch that cost less than $35 isnt too shabby but Im a bit frustrated that now I have this otherwise perfectly good watch I cant wear any more. Fantastic running watch I am a runner, and after my last watch ran out of juice I hit the market again. This watch looked nice and offered some valuable features, and Ive had an Ironman in the past and loved it. Ive had this watch now for a couple weeks and Im lovin it, too! Its got some great features (splits timing, a timer, an occasions reminder, and three alarms), and the watch itself tells you how to use the features, so that you dont have to go back to the manual every time you want to try one of the features. The "flix" feature is cool... havent really needed to use it much, but its nice to have for those times you might need it. All in all Im very happy with the watch. Best running watch Ive had so far, especially for the price. Great watch! I was looking for a sports watch to do exercises and one where the strap fix and this was a good solution. Its my first Timex sport watch and Im happy with the features. Timex Watch - Not recommended Supposed to be water proof - got wet washing the car and you can see water leakage inside the face. Strictly a poser watch - not for active use. Good basic training watch I bought this watch because I run at night and neeeded something that would light up with no fumbling around. I had never used a FLIX featured watch before however after a few weeks I have found it indispensible. Begin able to turn on the watch with the flick of your wrist without needing both hands helps me keep stride. The numbers are large and the controls are intuitive. The indiglo shows through the numbers instead of on top of face so the contrast between the numbers and the surrounding area is high. I have not used the occasion or alarm features so I dont have comments on those. I wish it would store a time and allow recall on multiple times instead of splits but that is a minor inconvienence. Works well, band could be much better I liked the velco strap of my previous model better. This rubber strap just flops around when I run and its just waiting to break like my old Nike one. When will i learn? Looks good and works well! Still been a couple of weeks since I bought. It looks good and is a fine watch. Not too pricey. Good buy so far. Looks good and works well! Still been a couple of weeks since I bought. It looks good and is a fine watch. Not too pricey. Good buy so far. Could be better. The watch looks better than I thought. When I first received it and took it out of the box, I was surprised by its sleek looks and clear digital display. The main reason I bought this watch, however, was for the FLIX feature. I started holding the INDIGLO button to turn on night mode. I noticed that the backlight was green, against my hopes. I had thought and hoped the backlight would be blue. Another disappointment is that the night mode automatically turns off after 8 hours. The band is extremely comfortable. The last watch I had with a resin band would choke my blood stream, but this watch does not block it as much. To confirm another review, the band does curve near the watch so that it has a better fit. When you take it off, the bands hang straight down because of the curve. Its not as water proof as you would think. In the instructions manual, it warns you not to push buttons underwater or else the water will go in. Its only water proof as long as the buttons and case stays intact. Im not sure if other water proof watches do the same, but this was a big disappointment for me, and would be too for you if you were a swimmer. This watch is extremely pricey. The Timex Mens Ironman Traditional 30-Lap Flix Fullsize Watch #T5H601, with the same features as this watch, costs $5 less. There are many more watches that costs much less than this watch. If you still want to buy it, I would recommend buying it from Chelsea watch because of its great services and fast 3 day standard shipping. Great watch Ive owned one digital Timex before and I loved it. Im in sales and went with one of the more expensive "fancy" watches, but missed the practical features of a digital sports watch. I decided to go back to a digital watch and chose Timex again and am very satisfied with this product. Very comfortable and easy to use. I have two kids so having 3 alarms keeps me on track throughout the day to make sure I get home in time. Alarms can also be set for weekdays, weekends, or daily. The indiglo feature is great. Overall this is a very practical and good looking watch. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a digital watch. Continually Improving Over the years Ive owned several generations of Timex Ironman watches, along with other competitors sports watches. This is the best so far and it is a pleasure to see that Timex is constantly refining and improving the Ironman brand in small and very useful ways. Small but extremely useful improvements over the last Ironman watch I owned include: - The Flix feature. This is very useful at night when you only have one hand available. Just activate the night mode, flick your wrist and the watch face illuminates for a few seconds. - When you press the Indiglo button, the face stays lit for a few seconds instead of only as long as you hold the button. Subtle change but big help. - When you press the Set button in any mode, helpful flashing icons appear which let you know which of the five buttons does what function (e.g. "+" to advance a number.) This pretty much eliminates ever needing to refer to the instruction manual. - The wristband curves where it interfaces with the watch for a better fit around your wrist. - The plastic loop which secures the un-notched portion of the band to the other half of the band has a notch which fits into a special hole in the free end of the band. This keeps the loose portion of the band secure around your wrist so that it never snags. The continual evolution in features, rock solid reliability, and excellent value for price will keep me a loyal Ironman user in the future. Solid watch for the money I bought this watch for athletic events and training. Thus far the watch has proved to be durable, reliable, and sufficient for my needs. Solid watch for the money I bought this watch for athletic events and training. Thus far the watch has proved to be durable, reliable, and sufficient for my needs. Good watch I wear this watch daily. The alarms and timers are handy after you figure out how to use them. Great watch for the money. Nice Watch for the Price I just received the T5E901 Ironman Triathlon watch. It seems like a nice watch for the price. The only thing I am a little disappointed with is the Indiglo night display. I was expecting it to be easier to see in the dark. That was my main reason for purchasing a new watch. The night light on my 20-year old Casio no longer works. Other than that, I am hoping to enjoy this watch for many years. |
