![]() Timex Men's Ironman Triathlon 100-Lap FLIX System Watch # T5E231 By: Timex Average Rating: 4.5 Total Reviews: 59 More Information great watch for swimmers This is my 3rd Ironman watch, and by far the best. For swimmers, the lap button is raised and easy to find and push while underwater, and the extra large numerals make it easy to read. Also, the band is much improved. Great watch This watch is awesome - does everything as advertised. Light weight - you dont even know you have a watch on. The display for the time is HUGE. havent really had a need to use the flick feature yet, but it seems to work well. Only minor beef with the watch is the strap - the loop that holds the end of the strap has a small tab in it, designed to catch one of the band strap holes. That works, but it can be a pain in the backside to get the strap off. I suppose I could cut that tab off with a sharp knife if I wanted to. Excellent watch with great features and user-friendly operation! I have owned this watch for several years now and could not be happier with it. It is no longer my everyday go-to-work watch, but I do wear it fairly often for running, hiking, biking and other outdoor activities. I replaced the original stiff plastic band with a "Timex Expedition" Velcro fastwrap band for greater comfort and easier tightening/loosening ability. With the Velcro band cinched up, the watch fits snugly and comfortably and I barely know its there while running, etc. Setting the time and alarms is extremely easy and user-friendly, given the large, clearly labeled and easy to push buttons, and the helpful on-screen directions such as "next" and "done" that appear over each applicable button. Unlike some other reviewers, I have no problem with the relatively subtle Indiglo light. Using the backlight, it has never been difficult for me to make out the time in dark or dusky situations, and since I dont rely on the watch to illuminate dark hallways, etc., I think the light is more than adequate. Great Watch Great watch - only negative is a stiff band and low night light. It is easy to use! Only Watch One Needs I put down the Rolex, too heavy, clunky and common place and put on the Ironman, the best watch ever, big screen so its easy to read, has a light and stop watch for timing runs. It is not big and bulky like the Casio G-shock but instead is trim and fits neatly under a shirt cuff. Never take it off. Lastly, its colors are discrete, so it looks great with a suit and tie. Great value Im an RN in intensive care and wear this watch to work about 40-60 hours per week. I love it! Ive had it 3 months and its been very sturdy, no scratches or dings yet. The face is simple, easy to read, and thorough. The band has a tab that keeps excess from flopping around. I like having the option of a 24H viewing format. It has held up to my 50 times per day handwashing. I am thin and have smaller arms than the larger average male and was afraid the face would be too large, but it isnt at all. Its not small however either. You can lose the intructions if you want because the functions are very easy to read. Changing the time and date when needed can be figured out easily without having to keep the booklet for the rest of your life. Great watch for the price! Good watch, very easy to set I really like how easy this watch is to set. I have used it several times for swimming and during a triathlon event and it works very well. Good Watch! Happy with the watch. Large display and functions I can definitely utilize in my swimming days to help me count laps. Two time zones. Like always Amazon excels at customer satisfaction and Timex as most of us know is a dependable watch. I like the size of the digits, I just do. 4 Stars for the Timex Mens Ironman Triathlon 100-Lap FLIX System Watch # T5E231. Large Face The face on this watch is bigger than it looks. If you have difficulty reading smaller numbers, I recommend this watch. If you are tired of people asking you what time it is, this watch is great because anyone within a few feet of you can already see the time =) The Silent Alarm Im fairly happy with this watch. Id just like to point out a few things that I wish I had been aware of before I purchased it. The alarm is nearly useless. Unless you are in a location with ZERO ambient sound, you most likely will not hear this unless you have the watch pressed to your head. It is that quiet of an alarm. The Indiglo feature is not the glowing face I would have preferred but instead the numerals glow green and the clock face has a faint glow to it. Only takes a little getting used to, but it isnt possible to use this watch as an impromptu flashlight to search for things in the dark. Also, during twilight hours, the time is near impossible to read in either unlit mode or with the indiglo activated. The watch band is really weird. It seems to be sized for a childs wrist. Even though it is long enough, it wants to pinch your wrist tightly. This is sort of hard to explain, but for example, where a regular watch and band would lay flat if you were to take it off and lay it on a table, this one will not since it has been designed in such a way that the band leaves the body of the watch at an extreme angle from the plane of the watch. This makes it sometimes difficult to view the watch without really twisting your entire arm to get it onto a parallel plane as your eyes. otherwise, im happy with this watch, and it was cheap. a very good daily watch I used a timex Ironman watch years ago. I needed an inexpensive daily watch with an alarm. I compared some Ironman watches. This particular watch seems little bulky. Yet, it is light. It has so many features. I like having so many alarms.(5).I also use timer a lot. It keeps the last timer used in its memory, which is great. You need to read the manual to figure chronometer out. It is little complicated, but you get used to it. It is pretty accurate. The watch is one to two seconds slow every week. It is very easy to adjust it. I have an atomic watch at home. Usually, twice a month I correct the time. I recommend this watch. Great Watch, where are the replacement bands? I have ZERO complaint about the watch. I replaced my 30 lap timex with this one since Marathons in Japan are in KM, so I needed something with over 30 lap max. My deployment in Iraq ended up cracking the band and I couldnt find an exact duplicate of the rubber wristband...i had to settle for a nylon/velcro band...and I still had to alter it a bit for it fit in there right. Even with my Polar heartrate monitor watch, I still like this one for its simplicity for Timing and alarms. Not sure what someone would need more than this if you arent monitor your heart rate or speed...the watch is perfect for the basic needs. 5 Stars if exact replacement bands were available in stores. Great watch The watch is great. I bought it for my husband and he really liked it. One thing he raved about is how it fit. Well designed & durable Ive been using this watch for about a year now, including three marathons (Cleveland, San Francisco & NYC), and it has worked flawlessly. The functions make sense and are easy to use. The display is large, clear and the Timex Indiglo (TM) really does work wonders. For whatever points this loses to style - the watch is tough - its designed to be worn and ran. The flix light activation is more useful than I expected, and very well implemented. It lights up when you want it to and only when you want it to. My only complaint here is that you cant just activate that feature continuously or at least for a certain hour range (e.g.: 7PM to 7AM). Although activating it isnt difficult - just hold a button for a few seconds.....just being lazy. The only other complaint I have is that I have never been able to delete a single lap. If you hit the split button at the end of a run rather then stop, then it throws off the average & best lap. The watch PROBABLY has a means to delete a single lap, but I lost the instructions long ago and have never figured out how. Overall though, the interface is well designed and works great, just remember to hit stop. Great Watch for Interval Workouts Just bought this watch recently and I have to say I am very impressed with the performance and satisfied with the price. I love to use this watch for interval workouts for running or even boxing. You can set different time limits for different intervals and keep you working hard without glancing up at the clock. Nice and easy to read numbers and the indiglo is nice. Only thing I would improve is the to make the alarm beep/interval beep louder. I gave my husband the PERFECT b-day gift! My husband LOVES the Timex watch! He swims and runs so the watch is perfect for him. He even put his Bulova aside and has been wearing the Timex, since I gave it to him for his b-day in mid-December. A+++! Very readable display I have been wearing Ironman watches for running for years. You cant go wrong with the big, easy to read dispaly on this watch and the Flix technology is great for early morning joggers like me. Timex Ironman Review The watch provides exactly what I wanted. Had I known that there was a less complex version I might have ordered it. If you want digital time and simplicity, this is your watch. Real Ironman quality watch I was pleased to see the durability built into this watch. Heavy plastic band w/ very heavy buckle. This will take some punishment if you work with your hands- eg- hammering arm movement. The face is large in size and easy to read while running or to quick glance at. Nice feature is the indiglo light which remains on for a few seconds so you dont have to maintain pressing the button. Timer and dual time periods are nice to have since Im back and forth w/ 2 time zones. I really like this watch. Awesome Watch Well...I did a lot of research before purchasing this watch. I was replacing one of their "shock" models that I purchased about 4 years ago. It has a lot of the function of the "shock" model....but the feature I like the best is that it has 5 alarms that can be set for weekdays, weekend, or for specific days of the week. The FLIX mode is cool too, but must be set each day. It automatically goes off. I had looked at more expensive watches, but liked the quality and durability of TIMEX. Besides, my wife would rather I spend the difference on her :-) For my purposes, still the best all-around digital watch out there Ive had various incarnations of the Timex Ironman watches over the years. They take a beating and have great functionality. To me, this model has about the best practical value overall, being rather feature-laden without being overcomplicated. One distinct value of this watch over the "sleek" and similar models, is that it does NOT have an integrated band. Sure, integrated bands look cool, but if you wear the watch daily the band will start to break down after about a year and then you have to send it back to Timex for a new band. Not so with this watch. New users will have to take a little time to figure out the various functions of the watch, but once you get the idea, operation is very logical. The stopwatch is great for training, having more laps at your disposal than youre ever likely to need, multiple timers and alarms, and two time zones. These are also useful for training, but also just useful in general life (moreso than youd think). In all, a solid choice for a digital sports watch, and an excellent value considering Amazons prices. Highly recommended. Economy watch; gets the job done! Simple to use for just about anybody. Looks okay, but the belt looks and feels too toyish. However, if you are looking for an inexpensive digital watch with no non-sense functions thatd last a long time, I think this watch will serve you well. Timex Ironman Sports Watch Ive been wearing a Timex Ironman watch for the last 20 years. Each time one wears out, I replace it with another. Ive owned G-Shocks, expensive dive watches (Rolex and others) and more. The Ironman is a very versatile and reliable watch. This model incorporates some new features that are a nice improvement over my last one. The new Indiglo system causes the numbers to illuminate, instead of a lighted background with dark numbers. This makes reading it in low light much easier. The new model also has a dual timezone feature that is easily toggled by pushing the large start/split button. It also features 5 different alarm times, a useful feature if you have several critical events throughout the day. As a dive watch it functions perfectly well, although I recommend one of the velcro straps to give you more length to wrap it around a wetsuit and a single strap design will keep your watch on even if you lose one pin. For such an inexpensive item, its a great piece of gear. Just what I needed The watch works well, is easy to read, and easy to use during a triathlon. joe All the functions i need but loses about 1 second every 3 days from atomic time. no biggie. Love it Ive been wearing Timex Ironmen watches for the past 10 years and this is a great one. I wear it every day and get a new one about every 18 months, since the band always is the first thing to go on the watch. For the price, I prefer to buy a new watch than to replace the band. Excellent Time Piece This watch has come in quite handy for me since I teach Physical Education. I am able to time my children during time trials. I like the recall feature very much. I had purchased another similar model last year, the strap did not last too long and the battery either. This one seems a lot better. Waiting to see how long it lasts. Terrific watch, but complicated I bought this watch specifically because I believed it could be set to beep at 1 minute intervals for interval training while running. I still havent figured out how to set it for interval training. I think it can do it, but frankly, the instructions are complex and ambiguous. Another thing - I cant get the FLIX feature to work. Its supposed to illuminate at the flick of a wrist, but it wont do it for me. Probably operator error again. Other than that, it looks good, feels good on my wrist, and I never worry about it. What's not to like? I read other peoples reviews before buying my Timex and as in all things in life, everyone has their opinion. One of the things I found preposterous were the comments about the band. Its designed to be secure on your wrist. The fact that the small loop kind of "locks" in the strap is a good thing. Some people complained that it was too hard to undo. I do it everyday with one hand and could do so blindfolded. If you cant get the strap undone without breaking a sweat, one handed or two, I would suggest you never leave the house because you are uncoordinated to the point of being dangerous. The large numerals on the face have also been criticized which is also a mystery to me. It simply makes reading the pertinent data easy and fast with no guess work and with a quick look. I also like the fact that it is so light that Im not even aware of wearing it which is very good in a a sports watch. The ONLY negative I have is that you have to hit the "Stop" button twice when in interval mode and the time you want to stop on corresponds to the interval itself. Not a big deal. I hit the stop button twice in succession. Its a fine product that does what its supposed to. What's not to like? Its light and doesnt move around on your wrist. The indigo option is great at night. The perfect sports watch I have owned the previous model of the watch for over 6 years and it is still my main training watch. The reason is that it is simply the best training watch out there right now. The FLIX system, which allows you to turn on the back light with a flick of the wrist, is invaluable when I am riding a bike or running at night. The 100 lap memory lends itself perfectly to interval training (say if you are sprinting 100 m, resting for 30 secs and running again). In addition, the watch offers an interval countdown that lets you set multiple countdowns, which can be set to repeat (useful for timed sets, e.g., jump rope for 1 min, rest for 1 min, repeat 5 times). In addition, the watch has dual time and 5 alarms (I mostly use them as birthday reminders). Also, the watch has held up to biking, running, swimming, white water rafting, and the toughest test, two three year old boys tinkering with it :-). Lastly, the newer version (featured here), has a bigger display than my earlier model. Also, if you are looking to buy a watch to help you train better, the Timex IRONMAN Triathlon Data Link Watch T53722 is be a worthy competitor. Good watch, but big sized The display is pronounced and function keys are easily accessible. Indiglo works excellent. The only concern I have is that the watch dial is big, 45mm diameter and 12mm width. This watch is ballin Im writing this review on behalf of my friend Sarah who has owned the watch for 1 year. The watch is ballin, the watch tells time like it should. The numbers are crisp and clean. I do not endorse this review. A good purchase so far The housing for my original Casio from 25 years ago finally disintegrated and I went out seeking a sport/casual replacement. I love this watch. So far, Ive only set the time on the watch and havent used the timer or alarm features, but after a quick glance at the manual TIME 1 was set and another longer look, TIME 2 was set to another time zone for a vacation to the other coast. The big digits are great, but the thing I like the most is the weight; its light, comfortable and seems well made. Will I get two and a half decades of use out of this? I dunno, but at this point, it gets 5 stars from me! Good Product So far so good. Came on time, considering I am in Iraq. Works great, no problems. Great running watch I bought this solely as a running watch, and Ive been really pleased so far. Its a little big for my taste to just wear around as a casual timepiece, though I might do so on occasion anyway. Its apparent this watch was designed for activity. The strap feels solid, and it stays in place on a sweaty wrist. Theres a handy strap lock to keep the slider from moving, which is a small but thoughtful detail. I appreciate the large numbers for easy quick glances, and the start/split button is ideally placed for quick access. I also notice the buttons require just enough pressure (and are placed high enough) that you wont activate them by accident. Having a 100-lap memory may seem like overkill, but its actually quite useful. You can store individual workouts by date, and you can freely track splits by whatever increment you want over many miles. The Flix feature is nifty and works as advertised. Ive seen the complaints of battery life, so thats my only worry going forward. Regardless, this is a great exercise watch. great sports watch This is a great sports watch that is easy and intuitive to use. The interface is such that I picked up this watch and within a few minutes had figured out nearly all of the functionality. This watch has five clocks, a single shot timer, an interval timer with nine slots, a 100-lap/split chronograph and multiple alarms. The interval timer is a very nice feature and is excellent for timed interval workouts (i.e. 1 minute effort, two minutes rest, etc.) The chronograph works simultaneously with the timers, so that is nice. The face has large, easily visible characters and the FLIX system is very nice - you can turn on the Indiglo light with just a flick of the wrist. The only minor nitpick I have (and this may be my failing) is that I cant figure out how to change which of the five clocks is shown by default - it always seems to show clock 1 and pressing the split button cycles you through the clocks. Really this is only a problem if you travel between different time zones a lot. Overall, this watch exceeded my expectations and I highly recommend it. Good watch for someone with thick wrists I have a Timex Ironman Traithlon Sleek 50/100 (T54281) that lives up to its name--sleek. My partner needed a new watch, so I ordered this one so we wouldnt have the same watch. When it arrived, I was a bit surprised at how big it is compared to the Sleek 50/100, and when he put it on, it was just too big for him (hes only 57" and Im 60"), so I gave him my watch and kept this one. It took me a while to get used to the size of it, but Ive grown accustomed to it. Aesthetically, I still like the Sleep 50/100 better, but functionally, I like it as much as Ive liked any of my previous Ironman watches. One thing I noticed about the Sleek watch that I hadnt noticed on previous Ironman watches is that it is very easy to change modes when you bend your hand back like you might when lifting weights. Even though the size surprised me, one reason I ordered it was that I thought its bulkiness and protective protrusions around the mode button might keep it from changing mode when working out. They dont. Wear it while pressing a few pounds, and you will most likely change it from from one mode to another. I only gave it four stars because the FLIX function requires you to really shake your arm to make the INDIGLO light up. Its easier to just press the INDIGLO button with your other hand--assuming you have one and it is free. :) If money is important to you, Id recommend the cheaper non-FLIX versions. Otherwise, this watch is a great buy for anyone who likes Ironman watches, wants to save a little money over purchasing one in a sporting goods store, and doesnt mind wildly shaking your arm to invoke the FLIX function. Nice Looking, Fast Delivery! I received the watch very quickly considering that I live in Hawaii. The watch itself is beautiful without being flashy. Its easy to use, very intuitive. I wanted a light sport watch that I can wear all day. I wanted a large display and at least 100 M water resistance. I also wanted a countdown timer and forward and reverse setting buttons. This watch has all of these features and it is very comfortable to wear. I havent had a chance to run with it yet, but I can tell this will make a good running watch. The indiglo feature is very high tech and cool looking. The strap looks nice and it doesnt have that Timex Triathlon symbol that I was never a big fan of (its on the strap holder very discreetly). I am very pleased with this purchase! Timex Men's Ironman Triathlon 100-Lap FLIX System Watch #T5E231 Timex Mens Ironman Triathlon 100-Lap FLIX System Watch #T5E231 is the best watch I have ever had. The face is the largest I have seen. It is easy to read in reduced light conditions. In a run with multiple laps it not only gives the time at each lap but also the average of each lap and the quickest split. I would buy another. Delivery was prompt. good price, fast delivery Much better price than at Target and no hassle (Target only had displayed and running item of uncertain battery usage and bad sales support). However, there was no choices on colors (only black offered). Excellent Watch This watch is extremely easy to learn and use. I have never owned a Timex Ironman Triathalon watch before, but I bought one because it had good reviews, and so far I am very impressed. It has a very large display screen witch helps you read the time while running, biking or swimming. I definetly would recommend this watch to anyone. Timex Ironman Great Watch Timex has improved the FLIX Ironman watch over the previous version. One lap button helps (I always stopped the timer when I tried to do the laps), and the larger numbers help also. The band is better, and the Indiglo numerals are easier to read at night. Nice job. interval timer watch this watch works well for interval workouts ,easy to program ,large numbers are easy to see even in the dark, great for Galloway type training Nice Watch I ordered this watch to replace the Timex digital that I had been wearing to work for more than 5 years that suddenly quit. This watch looked to be the closest match. The new watch came very quickly and was easy to set up. I really like the FLIX feature, it lets the back light come on just by flicking your wrist. I have used the timer function and it also was easy to set up and use. If you want a simple to use watch with nice features, this is a good one. Awesome Watch! This is a great watch! Large easy-to-read face. Mutiple timers and alarms. Definitely worth it. Very Nice Watch Graduated from the original Ironman Flix- the size and illumination of the numbers work much better- functions are all about the same as the older model but easier to navigate. The only complaint is that the band is a little ornery (some extra notch that secures the band also makes it harder to get off- probably could cut it off) but overall very nice upgrade. Solved a Whole Raft of Problems This is the forth watch Ive bought for running since I began to need reading glasses for near objects, and its the only one that solved all the problems aged eyes cause a runner. The FLIX option is fantastic and worked without a hitch, and is easy to see at night. The buttons are easy to see and work, and become intuitive within an hour of strapping the watch on, even while running. Its even fairly attractive, as digital watches go. Most important is that the numbers are large, clear, and easy to read even when running through the desert -- as an aside, if you ever get shin splints try offroad running, especially in deep sand: its easier on your legs, more effective as cardiovascular excercise and much more interesting. My only complaint (and its a small one) is that a digital compass would have been a nice addition for offroad runners, but I was able to fix that with a Suunto Clipper L Micro Compass (Luminous Bezel). Other than that this watch would get a five star rating, so if you run on the street, buy it. This is a great digital watch Ive had it for only a couple of weeks - bought it at a certain nationwide store that has a crosshair symbol as the emblem - and then accidentally saw this page on Amazon, so I thought Id review it. Its very comfortable as another review said. It looks great. At first, I was a little self conscious about wearing this big thing when I first got it home and tried it on, but come to think of it, its not that much bigger than my Seiko divers Id highly recommend it. Defintely happy with it, even though I wont be using most of the many features on it. ( But Id sure like a watch with multiple timers one of these days. Even though I sometimes use the multiple Alarms on this thing, having multiple *timers* is way more useful to me, since I like to have a timer for 40 min for a lot of the things I cook, and another timer always set at 25 min to get the clothes in the washer, and then a couple of other timers always available for whatever comes up) Timex Triathelon Excellent watch. Large digits for an aging baby boomer. Easy readability with Indiglo. The Flix feature is a bit balky. Great watch! I had an old Ironman that died after 4 years. This one is even better. dK Excellent Watch This watch does everything! It has five alarms, a timer, a chronograph, etc. Its also very comfortable. The watch is very durable and I like the quality for the money. Great watch It is heavy duty, and it is easy to read with big lettering and it will fit people with a large wrist such as mine. slow I have owned several timex ironman watches over the years. Loved em all. I dont if amazon sent me one with an almost dead battery, or if its a flaw in the watch. However, when punching through the modes, everything is REALLY SLOW. If I go to alarm, I have to wait a few seconds for it to appear, then wait a few more when I choose to modify it. Not quick an easy like my other ironmans. Great features though, if it wasnt for this annoying delay, 5 stars easy. So I dont know to blame amazon or timex for this. Either way, it is a problem that dropped the score for me. Easy to read display My boyfriend found this watch at a retail store & put it on his Christmas list. I purchased it at Amazon at a much better price. This was a replacement watch for an old Timex watch. My boyfriend says he loves this watch - no complaints at all. He says the buttons are easier to push than those on his old watch & he especially likes the large, easy to read display. Timex ironman 100 lap flix watch Great watch...bigger numbers and easier to see. has all the features! Came with dead batteries I gave the watch as a gift to my son at Christmas. He is a jogger and told me this is the watch he would have bought himself. The problem was that the watch came with a dead battery. It was very disappointing to give a gift and then have the reciever go out and buy a battery so the gift will work. Great Watch! Ive seen this watch in stores for $65. Bought it using my Amazon Prime for $43, free shipping, got it 2 days later. Its a great watch, especially the Flix system. It took me a short time to figure out the right way to flick my wrist to activate the light, but once I got it, it worked every single time. Besides the great features, its a good-looking watch also. Excellent Watch I received my Timex T5E231 watch yesterday and I, absolutely, love it. It has a nice style and very easy to set. I will use it for the first time on Monday, Oct. 2, 2006 when I start my running regimen. My goal is to lose 60lbs in 3 months and this watch will help me to achieve that goal by allowing me to train properly. I cant recommend it enough. |
